Welcome Message Welcome to SCANH2019, an event that gathers experts from IT industry, health systems leaders, renowned researchers, policy makers and citizens to enable global collaboration and facilitate knowledge exchange of transformative supply chain strategy that advances quality, safety and sustainability in health systems around the globe. This year’s theme, Achieving the Single Source of Truth, focuses on the critical importance of sharing and securing clean data to improve health system performance and patient outcomes. We are excited to explore the opportunities that leveraging supply chain strategies offers health systems and citizens globally! On October 22nd, our dialogue and networking opportunity focuses on challenges with the completeness and accuracy of product data across the supply chain. An effective supply chain infrastructure results in a clinically integrated supply chain that promotes a better understanding of what care works best for a given patient and under what conditions best outcomes are achieved. We are pleased to announce the winners of our 2019 SCAN Health Design Competition. This competition was partnered with the HTG and attracted innovative solutions from Canada, U.S. and around the world to find a “single source of truth for product data. Semi-finalists will share their proposed solutions with event participants. We hope this exchange of knowledge and ideas will result in actionable transformation of supply chain strategy in health systems to improve operational efficiency and deliver safer care to patients. We wish to thank our event host, FMOLHS, for their tremendous support and extend our deep appreciation to the entire HTG and their leadership for their constant commitment and collaboration with SCAN Health. This is our second event partnered with HTG, the first being our inaugural event in 2017 at the Mercy Virtual Care Centre in St. Louis. We are grateful to Intalere for their sponsorship of our 3rd annual event and extend our sincere appreciation to their team.
This event would not be possible without the development of real-world solutions by our design competition semi-finalists that will enable health systems to share essential data to improve performance and patient outcomes. We look forward to the captivating presentation by our design competition semi-finalists and our keynote speaker, Dr. Randy Bradley on the role and value of predictive analytics in an era of multiple sources of truth. Thank you to all participants for joining us in Baton Rouge and we look forward to working collaboratively with our partners and champions to achieve supply chain transformation in health systems that advance quality, safety and sustainability. Sincerely, Dr. Anne Snowdon Scientific Director & CEO, SCAN Health

About SCAN Health The Supply Chain Advancement Network in Health (SCAN Health)
In 2017, the Government of Canada, Networks of Centres of Excellence of Canada (NCE) provided $1.6 million over four years (2017-2021) to create SCAN Health. Hosted by the University of Windsor’s Odette School of Business, SCAN Health is an International Knowledge Translation Platform (NCE-IKTP) funded to accelerate knowledge translation and address key problems, challenges and opportunities of high strategic importance for health systems in Canada and around the globe. Spanning five countries, including Australia, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada – and with over one hundred partners from industry, healthcare, government and academia – the Network will enable the exchange of information and expertise to accelerate the implementation of healthcare supply chain best practices around the world. By mobilizing supply chain best practices to track health products and processes to patient outcomes we can significantly reduce medical error, increase health system sustainability and drive economic growth for companies globally.

Event Overview SCAN Health is pleased to present the 3rd Annual SCAN Health Global Networking Event 2019: Achieving the Single Source of Truth, taking place on October 22nd 2019 in Baton Rouge, LA. SCANH2019 theme explores the critical importance of sharing and securing clean data to improve health system performance and patient outcomes.
The Challenge
This event is generously hosted by Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System (FMOLHS) and partnered with the Healthcare Transformation Group (HTG) as a preconference opportunity to the HTG Summit taking place on October 23 and 24, 2019. HTG is an action-oriented collaboration comprised of six U.S. healthcare systems: Geisinger Health System, Intermountain Healthcare, Kaiser Permanente, Mayo Clinic, Mercy and FMOLHS.
Health systems globally are challenged with the consistency, completeness and accuracy of product data across their supply chains. With the use of multiple product data registries each with unique requirements, and health systems managing data internally with different processes, it is nearly impossible to ensure clean data is used to inform clinical decision-making that achieves positive care outcomes.
The Highlights SCANH2019 brings supply chain and IT industry experts, health system leaders, renowned researchers, policy makers and citizens together to exchange knowledge that will advance the adoption of data standards in global health systems. An effective supply chain data infrastructure results in a clinically integrated supply chain that promotes a better understanding of what care works best for a given patient and under what conditions best outcomes are achieved. Clean data will drive and enable the delivery of precision care that is personalized to each individual. SCANH2019 will showcase the most innovative companies and ideas being brought forward to find a “single source of truth for product data. Presentations by semifinalists in the SCAN Health Design Competition will demonstrate evidence of impact for feasible solutions that enable the consolidation and synchronization of product data currently held in multiple data registries. Results of these real-world applications will be shared and discussed as it is applied to health systems globally.

Design Competition Overview: Seeking the Single Source of Truth Speakers: • Mr. Kevin Capatch, Director of Supply Chain Technology and Process Engineering, Geisinger • Dr. Jove Graham, Associate Professor, Center for Pharmacy Innovation and Outcomes, Geisinger Challenge Description: SCAN Health partnered with the Healthcare Transformation Group (HTG) on this year’s design competition to advance and inform progress of health system supply chain infrastructure. HTG identified the consistency, completeness and accuracy of product data as a key challenge within and across their supply chains. The problem is exacerbated by the current use of multiple product data registries each with unique requirements, by consumers and suppliers. For example, in the U.S., manufacturers can enter product data into the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) or may enter data directly into the Global Unique Device Identifier Database (GUDID). Each of these data registries has unique data structures and the type of product data varies across the two registries. In addition, most health organizations manage product data internally to support product procurement, inventory and logistics processes, product utilization, billing, and registration. The challenge being, there is no “single source or version of truth” for product data.

Our databases, software, and industry analysts make it easy to understand medical products and suppliers. By combining a growing list of over 70 data sources on medical products and suppliers with customer feedback and machine learning, we create and curate analytics-ready data-fields. These are used to drive workflows where organizations generate ROI (e.g., aligning legacy data to UDI-DIs, reconciling contracts to purchases, evaluating standardization opportunities, auditing revenue integrity, monitoring recalls and backorder risks, etc...). The usage of these workflows generates feedback on our data quality and algorithms which we then route internally or to our primary data sources to make them even better. As an example, our analysts have most recently collaborated with the AHRMM Learning UDI community on resolving the implantable device identification problem in GUDID.

Closing Keynote: The Role and Value of Predictive Analytics in an Era of Multiple Sources of Truth Speaker: • Dr. Randy Bradley, Associate Professor, Haslam College of Business, University of Tennessee Description: With the multitude of data flows from disparate systems plaguing healthcare supply chains, it is imperative for supply chain leaders to have alternative plans for getting to the truth behind the data. In many cases, having an agreed upon single source of truth is an ideal state that is quite challenging to achieve. This is where the value and role of predictive analytics start to manifest. In this session, Dr. Bradley will focus on the role of predictive analytics in the supply chain and how to appropriately leverage these techniques to ensure value for all stakeholders. This session will help attendees recognize how to get to the truth of the data with analytics, even if they can’t rid themselves of disparate systems and diverse streams of information.
