INTRODUCTION

JASON GALE When I first thought of creating an event that celebrated the people, the businesses and the city that i had fallen in love with, I never imagined that the dream and reality would grow quite so quickly. The first London Lifestyle Awards were immediately a huge success. Thousands of businesses were nominated and hundreds of thousands of people voted for their favourites, culmiating in a hugely enjoyable night honouring the best lifestyle businesses in London. The book you are reading now is an extension the London Lifestyle Awards brand, a showcase that beautifully encapsulates why we do what we do; a constant reminder to everyone of the very best that London has to offer in terms of incredible lifestyle businesses. We hope you enjoy our first London Lifestyle Awards 300. They are in our opinion the very best of the best and you should definitely try and get to know as many of them as you can. LONDON LIFESTYLE AWARDS From the first London Lifestyle Awards it was clear that even with over 4000 publc nominations and a glittering array of celebrities and public figures in attendance, it was London itself that was the real star of the show. London leads the world in so many areas: art, fashion, tourism, hospitality, industry, finance, music, the list goes on and on. It is the reason the awards were created, to celebrate the people and businesses that make the city exceptional to the locals and visitors alike. The London Lifestyle Awards generate an overwhelming amount of support from across the capital - from the leaders in industry to a hugely engaged general public, there have been over one million votes cast since they began. 700 people, including a variety of celebrity guests and presenters, attend this very special gala evening. The national press will be in attendance, ensuring widespread coverage and guaranteed publicity for all our sponsors and partners. The Awards have become a key date on the London social calendar and are unique in that they not only allow a moment to reward our capital’s most sucessful and inspiring but they also provide an opportunity for the lifestyle business community to mix with the great and good of the city. A host of famous faces have attended the Awards since its very beginning and return year on year. It is a night of prestige intended to celebrate high profile businesses that are treasured by the London public.

PIZZA EXPRESS PizzaExpress Jazz Club has always presented jazz in a fresh and unpretentious way: up close and personal with great pizza to accompany some astonishing music. From its birth in the Swinging Sixties under the auspices of founder Peter Boizot, the swing and trad stars of the day helped build a solid rep for great music. When Boizot retired in 1993, his successor Peter Wallis brought over many of New York’s top jazz names and some of its legendary jazz club atmosphere too – all helping to stamp this club’s serious credentials well and truly on the cultural map.

PIZZA EXPRESS JAZZ CLUB In the early 2000s rising stars Diana Krall and Norah Jones made their UK debuts here, as did UK greats Jamie Cullum, Gwyneth Herbert and Clare Teal. Sting, Pat Metheny and Branford Marsalis have all dropped by to jam as well. Now in its 45th year the Dean Street venue is rightly considered one of Britain’s finest jazz clubs with an international reputation to boot, thanks to manager Ross Dines’ brilliantly balanced programming that has seen mesmerising performances from Grammy winning soul-jazz giant Gregory Porter, Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, vocal icon Amy Winehouse, violin virtuoso Nigel Kennedy, bass star Richard Bona and revered jazz singers Kurt Elling and Melody Gardot alongside its many acclaimed mini-festivals, special events and knock-out one-off performances. Today, PizzaExpress Jazz Club is part of the very heart, and soul, of Soho.

JONES & PAYNE The award winning Jones & Payne is a true London brand and they drew great nspiration from the heritage interiors of the Capital when they designed their flagship salon in Shoreditch which opened in 2010. The desire of founder Ricky Lee Jones was to bring West into East, creating an edgy and creative salon in East London with a few touches of West End luxury. Their second boutique salon in Covent Garden within the eponymous St Martins Lane Hotel is a natural step as the Jones & Payne team bring their individual styles and talent to the West End. The ethos of the salons is to ensure that the finest stylists in London will create beautiful hair and the service from start to finish is impeccable. Ricky Lee Jones hand-picks every member of his teams to ensure that this experience is guaranteed to every client, and it is this attention to detail that keep the Jones & Payne following coming back for more. 73 Curtain Road, London EC2A 3BS / 45 St. Martin’s Lane, London WC2N 4HX www.jonesandpayne.com
