EPPR The mandate of the EPPR working group is to address the prevention, preparedness, and response to environmental emergencies in the Arctic that result from human activities.

EPPR is: •

Expert's forum focusing on enhancing best practices to improve all aspects of prevention, preparedness and response related to oil, gas, hazardous noxious materials, and radiation incidents in the Arctic

Members coordinate, cooperate, exchange information, and undertake projects with the aim of improving the capability to prevent, prepare for, and respond to pollution emergencies in Arctic areas

•

EPPR is not a response force

Arctic Marine Shipping Assessment (AMSA) Two recommendations are specific to EPPR's mandate: •

Oil Spill Prevention: Enhance the mutual cooperation in the field of oil spill prevention and, in collaboration with industry, support research and technology transfer to prevent release of oil into Arctic waters for environmental protection. (II. F)

Circumpolar Environmental Response Capacity: Develop circumpolar environmental pollution response capabilities that are critical to protecting the unique Arctic ecosystem. (III. C)
