43,000 Scouts unite for 25th World Scout Jamboree in South Korea
Más de 43,000 Scouts y voluntarios del Equipo Internacional de Servicio de 158 Organizaciones Scout Nacionales aterrizaron en Corea del Sur en la primera semana de agosto para el 25º Jamboree Scout Mundial, uno de los eventos al aire libre para jóvenes más grandes del mundo y la primera reunión mundial del Movimiento Scout desde la pandemia. Un evento lleno de desafíos inesperados que los Scouts unidos lograron superar.
More than 43,000 Scouts and International Service Team volunteers from 158 National Scout Organizations touched down in South Korea on the first week of August for the 25th World Scout Jamboree, one of the world’s largest outdoor events for young people, and the first global gathering of Scouting since the pandemic. An event full of unexpected challenges that Scouts united managed to overcome.

El evento, organizado por la Korea Scout Association con el apoyo de aliados gubernamentales y autoridades locales, se llevó a cabo del 1 al 12 de agosto en un campamento de 3,000 hectáreas en SaeManGeum, provincia de Jeollabuk-do.
Además del programa de actividades en el campamento y en las comunidades cercanas, los Scouts también pudieron aprender sobre el desarrollo sostenible a través de exposiciones interactivas y educativas en Ban Ki-moon SDG Village. Varios socios internacionales, incluidos la FAO, Generation Unlimited, el Movimiento Internacional de la Cruz Roja y de la Media Luna Roja, Islamic Relief Worldwide, KAICIID, PNUD, ONU Medio Ambiente, UNFPA, ACNUR, UNICEF, UNODA, ONU Mujeres, Organización Mundial de la Salud, WWF Internacional e IM Swedish Development. Durante el transcurso del evento, la Organización Mundial del Movimiento Scout (OMMS) recibió la confirmación del Gobierno de la República de Corea de que, debido al impacto esperado del tifón Khanun, era necesario planificar una salida anticipada para todos los participantes el día 25º Jamboree Scout Mundial desde el campamento de SaeManGeum.
Casi 40,000 participantes partieron de manera segura desde el campamento del 25º Jamboree Scout Mundial en SaeManGeum y fueron reubicados en múltiples sitios en Seúl y sus alrededores antes de la llegada prevista del tifón Khanun. El gobierno coreano, con el apoyo de cientos de Scouts voluntarios en el terreno, facilitó la salida exitosa de los participantes, garantizando que todos abandonaran el campamento de manera segura.

The event, being hosted by the Korea Scout Association with support from government partners and local authorities, took place from 1 to 11 August on a 3,000-acre campsite in SaeManGeum, Jeollabukdo province.
In addition to the programme of activities on the campsite and in nearby communities, Scouts were also be able to learn about sustainable development through interactive and educational exhibitions in the Ban Ki-moon SDG Village. Various international partners including FAO, Generation Unlimited, International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, Islamic Relief Worldwide, KAICIID, UNDP, UN Environment, UNFPA, UNHCR, UNICEF, UNODA, UN Women, World Health Organization, WWF International, and IM Swedish Development. Partners supported the delivery of exhibitions and workshop sessions related to the Sustainable Development Goals.
During the course of the event, the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) received confirmation from the Government of the Republic of Korea that due to the expected impact of Typhoon Khanun, an early departure need to be planned for all participants at the 25th World Scout Jamboree from the campsite in SaeManGeum.
Nearly 40,000 participants safely departed from the 25th World Scout Jamboree campsite in SaeManGeum and were relocated to multiple sites in Seoul and the surrounding areas ahead of the expected arrival of Typhoon Khanun. The Korean Government, supported by hundreds of volunteer Scouts on the ground, facilitated the successful departure of participants ensuring that everyone left the campsite safely and securely.
On 11 August Scouts were transported to the Seoul World Cup Stadium to experience the event’s Closing Ceremonies and an incredible K-Pop concert. Since departing from the SaeManGeum, Scouts made the most of the opportunity to explore South Korea by experiencing the best of Korean culture, food, music, dance and history.

Held under the theme of “Draw your Dream,” this international event aimed to foster global unity, cultural exchange, and personal growth. With its rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and warm hospitality, South Korea proved to be an ideal host for this remarkable gathering of scouts. One of the highlights of the Jamboree was the exploration of South Korea’s rich cultural heritage. “El 25º Jamboree Scout Mundial fue uno de los eventos mejor organizados. Durante mi estancia en el Jamboree fui testigo de una estructura bien organizada y preparada para la difusión de información. El lugar del campamento estuvo bien organizado. En mi opinión, durante el proceso de planificación se pensó profundamente en garantizar que incluso en el peor de los casos los participantes estuvieran seguros. Esta experiencia me ha hecho comprender la importancia de planificar y mantenerse lo más cerca posible del evento planificado. Aunque hubo un gran aumento de calor, se hicieron todos los esfuerzos para que los participantes estén bien hidratados. El equipo de la OMMS garantizó que la salud y la seguridad sean una prioridad. Conocer nuevos amigos, experimentar la cultura coreana, ver una amplia diversidad en el Movimiento Scout solo puede ayudar a cada asociación a mejorar su Programa Scout. “The 25th world Scout Jamboree was one of extremely well organized events. During my time at the jamboree I witness a well organized and put together structure for the dissemination of information. The camp site was well organized. It is in my opinion that during the planning process deep thought was place in ensuring that even in the worst event that participants would be safe. This experience has thought me the importance of planning and keeping as close as possible to your planned event. Though there was extensive heat surge all efforts were made to make participants well hydrated. The WOSM Team ensured that health and safety was a priority. Meeting and developing new friends, experiencing the korean culture, seeing a wide diversity in Scouting can only help each association to enhance their Scouting programme. In closing I can say without a doubt that the 25th World Scout Jamboree was a huge success and looking forward to be apart of more”. -
