Best season to visit India October through March is the best time to visit India. There is little or no rain in North India during this time. The average high temperature in most of North India is in the low 80s and the lows range between 50° to 70°F. Kathmandu Valley is only 4,200-ft-high and it rarely snows there. South India gets some rains in October/November, but December through March is relatively cool and dry. Approximately December 20 to January 15, areas in and around New Delhi get heavy fog almost daily which burns off by mid to late afternoon. It causes some disruption in flights and visibility is generally poor.
Taj Lake Palace, Udaipur
Is this your first visit to India? If you are a first timer to India, we recommend a North India 14 to 18 day tour. Anything less may be too far to go for too little. Second timers should probably do South India perhaps with an extension to Sri Lanka. On your third trip you might want to visit Sikkim/Bhutan/Nepal/Tibet or the Silk Road (please ask for more information). Seasoned repeat travelers may like our Unusual India tour or the Himalayan Jeep Safari. Please see tour extensions on page 30-32.

Flying to India - a different approach
Traveling by road in India
Worldview Tours offers total flexibility to suit your needs. Let us assist you in finding the right airline, schedules, routing, your choice of airline and airfares for your specific requirements.
Due to distances and convenience, the majority of your travel in India is by short flights. On most tours there are at least two drives. Travel by road in the Indian subcontinent is an experience that no amount of Western motoring can prepare you for. Many roads have no center dividers and there seem to be no restrictions on vehicle types. Pedestrians, cars, trucks, bullock carts, camel carts, livestock and cycles throng the Indian roads. It is frequently heart-rending, sometimes hilarious, mostly exhilarating, and always unforgettable. Traffic is slow but in the absence of any other convenient way to travel, how else would one see the countryside?
Convenient Non-Stop flights to India American Airlines from Chicago O’Hare and Continental Airlines from Newark airports offer daily NON STOP flights to New Delhi avoiding stopovers or layovers in Europe. The actual flying time to Delhi is approximately 14 hours 20 minutes. Emirates Airlines flies non-stop from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston and New York to Dubai daily. Dubai is approximately three hours away from most major cities in India. Whether you choose to fly from the East Coast or West Coast you will join up with your tour on arrival in India. When you purchase the international air ticket from us, you will be met and transferred to your hotel regardless of day or night arrival. Across the Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Asiana Airlines are great choices. Convenient (inexpensive) Stopover Packages are available in Singapore, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo and Taipei. Across the Atlantic, all major airlines now fly to India.
Business Class or First Class upgrades Compared to our negotiated low Economy Class fares, business class airfares are substantially higher. Some airlines are still offering a ‘Two-for-One’ business class special to India for American Express Platinum Card holders. Please call us at (800) 373 0388. Our air experts will offer you many choices for convenient and attractive business class airfares.
Land-only tour price - Your own flight tickets to India Using your mileage credits to fly free or for upgrades... Since our negotiated airfares are very low, airlines will not allow combining your mileage credits with these low fares. It is best to check the rules on your mileage plan with your mileage club as they differ from airline to airline. In most cases the airline would want you to purchase a full fare Economy Class air ticket (a much higher fare than our low negotiated fares) and then apply 80 to 90 thousand or more miles from your credit for a Business Class upgrade. Some airlines require 130,000 or more miles to allow a free Business class flight to India. Please call us at (800) 373 0388 for assistance.
Travel Insurance Travel insurance is recommended and insurance information will be mailed to you when you book. Generally, a comprehensive plan including trip cancellation, trip delay, baggage, medical and emergency medical evacuation, etc. costs 5 to 6% of the total tour price. Some insurance packages offer a ”Pre existing medical conditions waiver”, if the insurance is bought within fourteen days of making your tour deposit. Whether on a group tour or an individual tour, considering the heavy cancellation penalties, it is strongly recommended that you purchase travel insurance. 2
PRIVATE JOURNEYS Individual travel is not very expensive in India. We have over 32 years of experience in arranging ‘tailor-made’ individual travel. Tours can be planned to fit your interests, travel dates and budgets. These tours are based upon exclusive use of your own private vehicle throughout and you are not joining others. Just let us know how many people are in your party, your interests, when you want to go, how many days, category of hotels you would like to stay in and your preference of air routing to India (over the Pacific or the Atlantic). In less than 24-48 hours we will provide you with a suggested itinerary and prices. An outline itinerary and estimated costs are provided at no charge. For any subsequent changes/modifications resulting in re-pricing there is a minimum $100.00 per person non-refundable deposit which is applied to your tour invoice. All logistics are arranged in advance as per the agreed itinerary. At each airport you are greeted and hosted by our local representatives/ guides. Transfers and tour services are by private chauffeur-driven cars with local guides. Hotels, domestic flights, train travel and any other related services are confirmed in advance for a flawless tour. Any tour in this brochure can be customized for a private journey. There are many ways to combine, shorten, modify or extend these programs. Please call us at (800) 373 0388. Our experts are available to help you plan the trip you want. Please see more details on page 34

Guaranteed departures We reject the horrors of regimentation and mass-produced package tours. Since we offer only top quality tours, most tours are guaranteed to operate with two or more passengers. If Worldview Tours cancels a tour you will either be offered another tour of your choice or a full refund.
Single room supplements Room shares are generally available on most of our tours. Rather than assigning roommates we will give you each other’s phone numbers (with your permission, of course) from our room share list. Both persons then get an opportunity to decide. If a room share cannot be found, we will offer you a choice of paying the single supplement, taking another tour or a full refund.
Partial tours/pre-post tour extensions If the tour you have chosen does not fit with your requirements and if the tour is not already full, we accept partial tour bookings. We will be happy to send you a revised itinerary/price for the portion of the tour you wish to take. Many passengers request pre and-post tour extensions, please see (page 30-32).
MEETINGS, INCENTIVES, CONFERENCES AND EVENTS Worldview Tours has the creative expertise and infrastructure to orchestrate visits to India according to your customized needs. Whether it is as a reward or incentive to working teams, conferences and summits or special events - in each case the planning, execution and management will be impeccable. We offer personalized planning assistance with in-depth knowledge of the destination to choose programs and venues, accommodation, itineraries, pre/post tours, city tours and day excursions, spouse programs, manning help desks, providing ushering, entertainment, materials distribution, ticket confirmation, etc. In addition, our long-standing relationships and connections give us access to venues and locations unavailable to the general public.
Meet and Greet Services Our India office has its own fleet of modern cars and motor-coaches. Our team of airport representatives is available 24 hours to guarantee fast and efficient services for airport and hotel transfers.
How to sign up A deposit of $700 per person is required to book any tour. (Extra deposits may be required for Luxury train tours or some private tours). You will find a Tour Registration form as an insert in this brochure. If you need more information to make your decision, we strongly urge you to call us at (800) 373 0388. Our travel experts will assist you in getting started on a memorable trip to India. (800) 373 0388

What happens next and before you leave After you sign up, a packet of information is mailed to you which includes a preliminary flight schedule, an invoice giving details of all charges and balance due dates, a visa kit (a visa is required for India), temperature chart, recommended shots, clothing suggestions, reading suggestions and insurance information. Three weeks before departure you will receive your final tour documents consisting of your airline tickets, final itinerary*, hotel list* with addresses, telephone and fax numbers, passenger lists*, passport cases, baggage tags, maps, vouchers, etc., for any stopover or pre-post tour packages (if ordered), information on baggage rules, money changing, etc. and any other relevant information about your trip. *Extra copies to leave behind with friends and family.
Unlimited assistance before the tour Our staff has enormous first-hand knowledge about your destination, hotels and services. You may have many questions about India and your trip. Whether your questions are about how much money to take, about dress code in a temple, or if you want suggestions on what to take for school children — we want you to know that we are available to answer your questions and to guarantee the service you expect from us.
Physical challenges and traveling in India You don’t have to be an athlete to participate in most of our tours, but you must be in reasonably good physical condition. The most that is physically required is perhaps walking from the bus parking to the monument, or inside a fort or museum where you may be climbing steps to go from one floor to another. Travel in India is still difficult and unpredictable at times. Unexpected changes do occur despite the best of planning, such as delayed flights, change in the sequence of cities visited and, infrequently, some hotel changes. These changes are beyond our control. It is our job to try our utmost to provide you with what you have paid for. Our tour managers, our local offices and all our resources will be at hand to look after your interests. To enjoy India one has to be patient, flexible, adaptable, have a sense of humor and an appreciation of India’s unique beauty, which will carry one through whatever minor glitches that may arise.
CRUISE SHIP SERVICES In the last few years many cruise liners have included India and Sri Lanka as part of their cruise programs. They usually cover the most popular ports on the western coastline of Southern India such as Trivandrum, Cochin, Mangalore, Goa and Mumbai. Through our own offices in India, we offer services to arrange shore excursions, transfers and pre/post - tours on the cruises through the Indian sub-continent. 3

Colors at Pushkar Fair

Diwali, The Festival of Lights, Nationwide. Diwali, the Festival of Lights is an occasion for great excitement and rejoicing. Special ceremonies, rituals and prayers are held in Hindu homes. Decorative floral designs or ‘rangolis’ are painted on floors and walls. New clothes are bought and family members and relatives gather together to offer prayers, distribute sweets and to light up their homes with flickering oil lamps, candles and electric lights. Against a backdrop of groaning camels, colorful saris and turbans and clanging temple bells, you can see camel races, magic shows, dancers, musicians, jugglers, puppeteers, snake charmers and peddlers.

A JOURNEY INTO THE PEOPLE AND CULTURE OF INDIA
‘PRIVATELY GUIDED’- TRAVEL ANY DAY
The culture of India has been shaped by the long history of India, its unique geography and the absorption of customs, traditions and ideas from some of its neighbors as well as by preserving its ancient heritages, which were formed during the Indus Valley Civilization. It evolved further during the Vedic age, the rise and decline of Buddhism, the Golden Age, Muslim conquests and European colonization. India is also the birth place of several religious systems such as Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, and Sikhism.

Miniature paintings are the most widely prevalent type of traditional paintings in Rajasthan with colorful pictures painted in glowing mineral and vegetable colors on hand-made papers. The brushes have to be very fine and are therefore prepared by the artists themselves. To get high-quality results, the brush is (even today) made from hairs of the squirrel’s tail.

THE INDIAN- JEWISH EXPERIENCE One legend holds that Jews first settled in India during the time of King Solomon, but most contemporary scholars fix the date at some time during the early 4th century. Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of the Indian Jewish experience is the complete absence of discrimination by a host majority. The secret of India’s tolerance is the Hindu belief which confers legitimacy on a wide diversity of cultural and religious groups even as it forbids movement from one group to another.

Entering Jew Town Road is like entering another world. The Paradesi, the oldest synagogue, is white-walled and tile-roofed, with an inner courtyard lined with ancient Hebrew inscriptions. It was embellished in the mid 18th century. The floor is paved with hand painted porcelain tiles, brought from Canton, China. A forest of lights hangs from the ceiling – silver, brass and glass lamps and Belgian crystal chandeliers. There are many Jewish synagogues in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata and in some other cities in India.

Brihadeeswara Temple, Tanjore
BHARATANATYAM Bharatanatyam is one of the oldest dance forms of India. It has been nurtured in the temples and courts of southern India since ancient times. The art was handed down as a living tradition from generation to generation under the Devadasi system under which women were dedicated to temples to serve the deity as dancers and musicians forming part of the elaborate rituals. Today it is one of the most popular and widely performed dance styles and is practiced by male and female dancers all over India.

GROSS NATIONAL HAPPINESS
FESTIVALS OF BHUTAN
A unique aspect of Bhutan is that progress is not purely defined by economic achievements as in most countries, but also based on the level of cultural and environmental preservation and development. In 1998 the GNH (Gross National Happiness) indicator was established and is defined by the following four objectives: to increase economic growth and development, preserve and promote the cultural heritage, encourage sustainable use of the environment, and establish good governance. It was only in 1999 the government lifted a ban on television and the internet, making Bhutan one of the last countries to introduce television. In his speech, the King said that television was a critical step to the modernization of Bhutan as well as a major contributor to the country’s Gross National Happiness, but warned against the misuse of television which may also erode traditional Bhutanese values.
The festivals of Bhutan are a kaleidoscope of colors, excitement and mystical power, and in Bhutan, they are authentically traditional. The dancers recreate the myths and legends of Himalayan Buddhism in a swirl of color, music and mystery.Through it all, clowns, wearing long-nosed red masks, weave in and out of the scene, acting as masters of ceremonies, performing between the dances and teasing tourists and locals.

ANGKOR WAT: The Pinnacle of Cambodian Art and Architecture Angkor Wat is the largest religious building in the world spreading over 81 hectares. It is comparable in size to the Imperial Palace in Beijing and has more stone than the Great Pyramids of Egypt. The outer wall has a diameter of over 3.5 miles.A bridge crosses the moat and leads to a gateway, the interior of which is carved with over 500 apsaras (angels or supernatural female spirits of the clouds and waters in Hindu and Buddhist mythology). Its distinctive five towers are emblazoned on the Cambodian flag and the 12th-century masterpiece is considered by art historians to be the prime example of classical Khmer art and architecture. The highest tower reaches 213 feet above the ground and is made to look like lotus buds about to open.
