CARBON OFFSET PROJECT
While we educate our team in the benefits of behavioural change and identify technology and process to reduce our carbon footprint, it is inevitable that we will not be able to neutralise our unavoidable greenhouse gas emissions.
THE MAURITIUS PROJECT The need for solar energy is at an alltime high, as it plays such a significant role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Worldwide is investing exclusively in the Mauritius project, which specifically focuses on the promotion of renewable energy. The aim is to achieve a cleaner future, whilst also diversifying the current energy mix.
In March 2012, we engaged the Carbon Reduction Institute to conduct a carbon audit of our Production Hub and Centres. The audit aims to capture 100% of the carbon emissions which an entity is responsible for. During October 2012, Worldwide pioneered the way forward, becoming WA’s first carbon neutral printing group.

In November 2008 we underwent an audit by the Printing Industries Association Australia. As a result of that audit we achieved Green Stamp certification. Level 1 certification - we hold all relevant licenses and permits and satisfy fundamental infrastructure and legislative compliance requirements. Level 2 certification - we recycle all waste paper, plastics, metal and wood. We use environmentally sensitive inks and chemicals, residue inks, chemicals and consumables are disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. Level 3 certification - the top level of certification. It is based on the principle of continual improvement, and requires businesses to develop and implement an environmental management plan to help monitor and review their current practices and set objectives or targets for further improvement.

Through the Federal Government’s Clean Technology Investment Program initiative, for Cleaner Energy Printing, Worldwide received a $147,144 grant towards the cost of a $380,557 solar farm. A 99kW solar photovoltaic system was installed by Solargain PV Pty Ltd in August 2013. The system comprises of 396 Suntech Solar panels – 60kW of these are ground mounted and 39kW are roof mounted. Seven SMA inverters undertake power conversion and the system has a state-of-the-art control system and live monitoring equipment. The system is in the top five largest systems in Perth Metro and the top 100 Australia-wide.

We use D50 lighting in colour critical areas for viewing prints and proofs. Our colour measurement instruments are regularly calibrated and certified by the manufacturer and reviewed every six months by a specialist for revision, training and review.
