The EPCM Improve contract covers the execution of 43 oil and gas platforms off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia and is one of the major Improve contracts being executed by PRW. To date, PRW has safely completed half of the 90 AFS (Approved for Services) issued under the contract. To ensure the safety of our people executing the work, PRW embedded the WorleyParsons OneWayTM framework in all areas of the scope.

Working together Pioneering a new safety innovation technology with Imperial Oil WorleyParsonsCord, our modularization and fabrication construction division, is using radiofrequency identification (RFID) technology to pilot groundbreaking safety measures. RFID technology uses a wireless, non-contact system to transfer data between a tag attached to an object and a networked system. The tag contains electronically stored information that can be read from up to several meters away. WorleyParsonsCord is pioneering the use of this technology in its field. This is the first time that the Scan-Link RFID technology has been used for workplace safety purposes at a modularization and fabrication company anywhere in North America. The team at the WorleyParsonsCord modularization yards in Edmonton has been using the technology to reduce the chance of injury to workers caused by most mobile lifting equipment. Patrick Lavin, manager of the Edmonton modularization yard, says RFID strips are being placed on the hard hats worn by employees. These strips will then communicate with an RFID networked system built into the different mobile lifting equipment on the work site. “When any person wearing a hard hat goes behind a machine, a sensor on the machine beeps. There’s an alarm and visual LED light in the cab of the machine that warns the operator that there is someone behind the equipment. “We’ll be installing RFID sensors on all of our mobile lifting equipment at the worksite, other than cranes. This includes zoom booms, forklifts and skid steers.” The cost for implementing this pilot is being shared with WorleyParsonsCord’s customer, Imperial Oil. Discussions are also underway with other customers and partners to agree on further cost-sharing opportunities. The modularization yards at WorleyParsonsCord operate year-round and are constantly bustling with equipment and human activity. More than 1,000 employees work at the three modularization yards combined, and they have the capacity to build 500 modules per year.

The activities of the Bergen Group are based on companies with solid traditions and long experience in various parts of the maritime industry. This has led it to become something of a specialist in the business fields of offshore, shipbuilding and services. One of the companies that used to belong to the offshore division was Bergen Group Rosenberg, which has a long track record in front-end engineering and design, maintenance, modifications and operations, subsea fabrication, installation, hook-up and general engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) services. Such solutions are engineered and fabricated at its facilities in Stavanger, Norway. As of February 2013, Rosenberg has become a 100 percent owned subsidiary of WorleyParsons, a leading provider of professional services to the resources, energy and complex process industries, where it will operate under the name Rosenberg WorleyParsons AS. HQ Magazine Changing hands 13

Elaborating on the impact this has had on the business, Rosenberg WorleyParsons' Managing Director, Kristin Færøvik says, “It means a lot to us to have become part of this very large and renowned engineering company, which has more than 40,000 employees and a presence in 42 countries. Likewise, the engineering capacity of WorleyParsons is on a different scale to what we have previously had access to at Rosenberg. “We believe the companies sit very well together, and are aligned in terms of values such as strong customer relationships. Our focus now is to become fully integrated with WorleyParsons and to tap into the capacity and competence that the company holds. This includes, for example, INTECSEA, the subsea specialist subsidiary of WorleyParsons, which we see as being interesting for us given the amount of subsea developments taking place in Norway,” she continues. For its own part, Rosenberg WorleyParsons is bringing an impressive array of skills and expertise to this new relationship. “Rosenberg has served the Norwegian oil and gas industry for many decades, so we have a long experience in this market. The quality of our workmanship is second to none, and we’ve also been able to grow our engineering capacity in a very competitive market. Engineering capacity is the bottleneck in our industry, and perhaps more so in Stavanger than anywhere else in Norway, and yet even in this climate, we have been able to grow our organization significantly,” enthuses Færøvik. One contributing factor to this growth has been the breadth of challenging and interesting contracts that Rosenberg WorleyParsons has won in recent years. The major part of this activity consists of EPCI projects for brownfield modifications on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) where the company is working with leading players such as Statoil and ConocoPhillips. “At the end of 2010, we were awarded a contract with Statoil for the construction of a precompression module for the Kvitebjørn platform. This module is to be delivered offshore this summer, with final completion in 2014. We have a second EPCI project for Statoil, which will see the FSO vessel Njord Bravo enter our dry docks later this year. At the moment, we are undertaking a lot of studies in preparation for the detailed design, before carrying out the modification works while in the dock,” highlights Færøvik.

14

hq magazine Changing hands

In the case of ConocoPhillips, Rosenberg WorleyParsons is assisting on the brownfield modifications of the Ekofisk area. This includes construction of a module that will be lifted out and installed during the summer on the Eldfisk field, and preparation for the hook-up and commissioning of the Ekofisk living quarters. At present, the company has a small team in Singapore planning the work so that when the platform arrives in Norwegian waters it can begin delivery of the offshore campaign. “On top of this, we are building quite a large number of subsea structures for the Åsgard subsea compression project, and are helping Statoil to change out the compressor motor on the Troll A platform. This is a project that isn’t very large in terms of scale but has a very compressed timescale, so we are pleased to be able to contribute on this as well,” adds Færøvik. Although Rosenberg WorleyParsons’ first priority is to deliver these projects—and others within its order book— to the highest levels of satisfaction, the company is also looking at how its shift in ownership will benefit it going forward. “Anyone who follows the Norwegian market will be aware of the fantastic exploration success we have seen in recent years, so that in itself presents a lot of opportunities,” notes Færøvik. “There is also a large drive to keep existing facilities running for longer because the resources are greater than initially planned, so there are a lot of modifications to either tie in new resources to existing facilities, or just extend their lifetime. “We want to take advantage of this to grow our organization, and as we are able to tap into the resources of the wider WorleyParsons family, that also increases our capacity to venture into new segments of the marketplace. We will continue to pursue the brownfield EPCI projects we have been doing for the last few years, but—with our new capabilities—we should also be able to tender for larger contracts than we have in the past. We will prioritize what we think is the right use of our resources, and always protect our ability to deliver what we take on in a controlled manner,” she concludes.

Q&A with Kristin Færøvik The impact of the Rosenberg WorleyParsons acquisition

Hydrocarbons Quarterly Magazine posed the following questions about the impact joining the WorleyParsons family has had on Rosenberg WorleyParsons to the company's Managing Director, Kristin Færøvik (right).

HQ:

Photo: Jon Ingemundsen, Stavanger Aftenblad

HQ:

What are the advantages for Rosenberg’s joining WorleyParsons?

KF:

The advantages are numerous: we are now backed by a corporation with significant financial strength, we have access to subject matter experts on almost any topic, we have a parent that will set a new benchmark for us when it comes to safety performance, we have access to knowledge transfer and corporate training programs and last but not least there will be personal development opportunities that follow from being part of a global company.

HQ:

How will customers be advantaged?

KF:

Can you tell us about EKTE Engineering?

KF: EKTE Engineering describes who we are and what differentiates us. EKTE means genuine or real in Norwegian and on purpose we do not translate this slogan. Without being too prescriptive, as I think we should leave space for people’s imagination too, EKTE Engineering encompasses the genuine work that goes on at Rosenberg each and every day: the closeness between designers and those that construct – that engineers get instant feedback on the constructability of their designs – the fact that we can check out progress and quality of the same within a few hundred yards—and that our quality comes from more than 100 years of developing workmanship. Inspiration for the slogan was found here: http:// blogs.nasa.gov/cm/blog/waynehalesblog/ posts/post_1228268456404.html, and it describes beautifully what it takes to be a real engineer. HQ:

KF: Customers will benefit from many of the points made above, but in addition the access to significant volume of quality engineering outside Norway will be to their advantage given Norway’s constraints on engineering capacity. Furthermore, customers will benefit from the fact that we will be able to broaden the scope of services offered so that over time we will support their assets from discovery through to abandonment.

Rosenberg is an integral part of the Stavanger community. Will this change now that you are part of a global organization? Stavanger is one of the most international and outward looking cities of Norway and one which has always embraced global companies. The fact that Rosenberg now has owners that are able to support growth, and that are ambitious about the company, will not make Rosenberg any less significant in the eyes of local stakeholders; quite the contrary if we go by initial reactions to the announcement of late February.

Rosenberg WorleyParsons Bringing more than 100 years of continuous operation in Norway to WorleyParsons

A/S Rosenberg Mekaniske was founded in 1896 to service local industry in ship repair, foundry, equipment and ship building. The yard at Buøy, the company’s current location, was established in 1915 with a large assembly hall and construction of a dry dock. By 1920, Rosenberg had become the most modern and advanced shipyard in Norway. During the recession in the twenties and thirties commissioning of new ships stopped almost completely, and the main activity was ship repair and maintenance. Following the recession in 1945, Rosenberg was acquired by ship owner Sigval Bergesen and quickly established a solid reputation as a major builder of large tankships with the world’s then-largest tanker being delivered in 1951. A dry dock capable of handling ships up to 65,000 tonnes was completed in 1959. Kværner acquired the ship yard in 1970. Kværner’s patent for tankers for freight of liquid natural gas was the basis for the construction of a series of large LNG tankers. Kværner Rosenberg started its current commitment to the offshore industry with the construction of the Statfjord B deck in 1979. Following Statfjord B, Rosenberg was involved with many of the giant installations of the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS). The company was at the forefront of the industry, and the

successful completion of projects such as Jotun FPSO and Ă…sgard B demonstrated their capability to handle large and complex projects. In 2004, AkerKvĂŚrner divested of Rosenberg to a group of local investors, and in 2007, the company was acquired by Bergen Group, listing on the Oslo Stock Exchange in 2008. Over these years, Rosenberg once more established itself as an important contributor to the development of the Norwegian oil and gas industry through execution of EPCI and fabrication contracts. In February 2013, Bergen Group Rosenberg AS was acquired by WorleyParsons, a leading provider of project delivery and consulting services to the resources & energy sectors and complex process industries. The company changed its name to Rosenberg WorleyParsons AS. Today, Rosenberg WorleyParsons is the result of a lasting ability to adapt to changing market circumstances. The facilities have undergone continuous improvement with focus on efficiency and quality and the organization is growing in line with an increase in demand for its services. Rosenberg WorleyParsons has the ability and flexibility to undertake a wide variety of projects from simple, small-scale fabrication to delivery of large and complex offshore installations. With the support of the wider WorleyParsons family, Rosenberg WorleyParsons is well positioned to continue to play an important role on the NCS and beyond.

Olympus TLP In-depth design and analysis by Selvi Devarajan

HQ Magazine From Flare to Fuel 18

INTECSEA's Floating Systems Group has a pioneering heritage in its engineering sector, advancing both innovative and mature solutions for the challenges of developing new oil fields in deep waters. This heritage is reflected in INTECSEA’s numerous deepwater projects for Shell International Exploration and Production Inc. (SIEP). Success in each project was achieved by high quality service, advanced technical solutions to new challenges and outstanding customer service. The ability to deliver successful projects with innovative solutions has earned INTECSEA a reputation as a leader in the industry and has resulted in an excellent relationship and trust with SIEP. In 2008, SIEP awarded INTECSEA a multiyear contract to provide professional engineering support services for the Olympus TLP (Tension Leg Platform)—part of the Mars B deepwater development. SIEP engineers were able to draw as needed upon INTECSEA’s engineering and drafting staff. A talented team of about 50 INTECSEA employees were mobilized at various stages of the project. INTECSEA's Vice President of Floating Systems, Chunfa Wu, has managed the group effort. INTECSEA’s naval architects generated environmental load data for the hull structure. The structural engineers analyzed and detailed the hull design to ultimately develop contract drawings and other supporting work. Drafting tackled some special assignments from SIEP, in addition to drawing development. INTECSEA’s flexible mode of responding to complex work tasks has provided value to SIEP. INTECSEA’s tendon group was assigned tasks in engineering the tendon installation that will be addressed in a future article.

The Olympus TLP will be a new, self-contained drilling and production facility located in Mississippi Canyon Block 807 in the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 95 miles south of New Orleans, Louisiana, in a water depth of approximately 3,000 feet. The facility is being designed to process approximately 100,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (BOE/d). Olympus’ hull has four round columns and four rectangular pontoons. A total of 16 tendons—four on each column—will anchor the unit and restrict vertical motions. The hull structure carries a deck consisting of four topside perimeter modules and a wellbay module in the center of the platform. The facility modules rest on pot bearings on top of the deck stools which transmit vertical axial loads to the columns. Upper column frames brace the column top against global motion. Though the Olympus TLP is outwardly conventional, it incorporates important design refinements learned and developed through the course of previous TLP projects. Unlike other TLP structures, the Olympus hull structure is designed to withstand 1,000-year storm conditions and a 50-year service life. Major design challenges imposed by post-Hurricane Katrina revisions to design practice were successfully managed by INTECSEA design engineers. Wave pressure and motion-induced loads for Olympus TLP were developed by Houston's INTECSEA naval architecture group led by Bill Greiner, using proven methods from various other floater projects. This included pressure and motion load mapping from the hydrodynamic analysis software (WAMIT) to the structural analysis software (ANSYS). This work also included development of simplified regular wave load cases to capture the maximum hull stresses found from statistical response based analysis (RBA) methods. The scope of work for the INTECSEA structural team included scantling design, global structural analysis, detailed hull structural analysis and design, fatigue analysis and design, load-out analysis, transportation analysis and drafting AFC drawings with back modelling to 3D PDMS models.

Additional scope includes supporting the Shell site team located at Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea, designing the installation structures and preparing the inservice inspection manual. Primary structural design, including global analysis, and the challenging transportation engineering tasks were led to successful, timely delivery by Executive Engineer, Yaming Wan. Some of the most critical parts of the structure are the deck stool, pontoon column connection and top of column braces connection to hull. Executive Engineer Dr. Yonggang Zhang was specifically assigned for this task based on his extensive knowledge in the area. Another Executive Engineer, Richard Hang, led appurtenance design—comprising a wide range of tasks which typically get pushed to the end of design work. Responses to yard queries, node detail design, load-out analysis and preparation of the in-service inspection manual were performed by Senior Engineering Specialist, Selvi Devarajan. The entire group effort was guided by two senior engineers Rajiv Kamal (hull structural design lead, SIEP) and Bartholomew Jukui (hull appurtenance lead, SIEP). The team's prior experience with Shell’s most stringent project requirements and their indepth knowledge of Shell design specifications and code requirements helped immensely in meeting the customer’s high expectations in designing the hull. The drafting team, which was led by Tim Coats (drafting manager/lead) carried engineering designs to AFC AutoCAD drawings with back modelling to 3D PDMS model. Experienced people like Tim Coats and Robyn Russel played key roles in designing installation interfaces. The customer has confirmed sincere appreciation of INTECSEA’s structural team efforts. The team’s timely interactions with Shell’s Hull Site and Design teams, providing quick responses to yard technical queries, have maintained a smooth fabrication flow.

Rajiv Kamal, P.E., said, “INTECSEA is helping SIEP to finalize many details for the Olympus TLP hull, and the site team thanks their staff for the focus and commitment they have applied to the project.” Clifford (Kip) Mankenberg’s hull site team detailed each query from the site in ways that enabled INTECSEA’s design team to respond without delay. The Mars B Olympus TLP host integration has moved into the final stage. The service provided by the INTECSEA team to the Mars B Olympus TLP project has helped fabrication of the hull at Samsung Heavy Industries achieve the projected completion date of November 2012. The hull was loaded out and dry-transported by Dockwise Ltd. in the middle of December to the Kiewit yard, Corpus Christi, Texas, USA where the topsides are fabricated. Having deployed highly experienced INTECSEA personnel, the team progressed smoothly through project execution, solving challenges on the way to the future success of the Olympus TLP. The performance of the team has been well recognized and appreciated by the Shell team. INTECSEA is proud to be a part of this historical project and the team looks forward to supporting future innovations in the offshore industry. Kalaichelvi (Selvi) Devarajan has been working as a senior engineering specialist with INTECSEA’s offshore structural group for the past seven years, mainly focusing on floating structures. Her work for this team includes design and fabrication support for the GUMUSUT semi-submersible hull and the MARS B Olympus TLP hull. Selvi's familiarity with design and fabrication procedures is an asset to the team.
