THE JOY OF CHARTERING Imagine putting the first footprints on a deserted beach, being totally pampered and savoring gourmet cuisine. It’s all waiting on board your own tailor-made luxury charter yacht
yacht charter vacation provides you with total luxury, privacy and security. Imagine your charter yacht as a floating villa, staffed with crew trained to discreet and attentive seven-star standards, as well as a chef who learned their gourmet skills in the finest restaurants around the world. Unlike a resort, you don’t have to share the staff – or the spa tub – with anyone else. And unlike

even the best villas on land, you get to have a new view every day while all your luxury accoutrements come along with you.
CUSTOM-DESIGNED FOR YOU Your yacht vacation will be carefully tailored by your charter broker and the yacht’s captain to meet and exceed all your expectations. Want to put the first footprints on a deserted beach? Or
QUALITY TIME
dance until the wee hours at the hottest clubs? No problem. Hone your skills on a paddleboard, snorkel where squadrons of rainbow-colored tropical fish swarm around your face mask, zoom across the water on a jet ski, or try to break the bank at the Monte-Carlo casino? If shopping is your sport, explore chic boutiques in St. Barths and Saint-Tropez. A luxury charter yacht vacation is most definitely bespoke because no two are ever alike.

LIFE ON BOARD Linger over a multi-course dinner prepared exactly to your taste, right down to a perfect crème brulée. Laze in your soft bed before being served fluffy croissants and freshly squeezed orange juice (perhaps a mimosa?) on the sun-warmed aft deck. And end your day sipping icy champagne in a bubbling spa tub under the stars. The suites and staterooms aboard luxury yachts can put the finest penthouses to shame, while guests wanting seclusion can enjoy their privacy far from prying eyes. And, in a world with disturbing headlines, the security aboard a luxury charter yacht is an absolute. Don’t worry about being out of touch, either: modern luxury yachts have better communication systems than you have in your office. From satellite communications to Wi-Fi to video conferencing, you’ll be able to keep an eye on business while your family plays. Luxury charter yachts are one-of-a-kind vessels, designed by noted naval architects, built by the premier shipyards around the world, and equipped with the very latest in entertainment, safety and security technology. Your crew is multi-talented, often including nurses or paramedics, massage therapists, hairdressers, fishing guides and personal trainers. Many yachts are designed with disabled access in mind with elevators between decks.
You can take as many – or as few – family members and friends as you care to invite aboard your personal floating pleasure palace, and a luxury charter yacht is perfect for celebrating birthdays, anniversaries or business successes. For kids, a luxury charter is a “best-ever” vacation. The crew can help them catch fish, learn to snorkel or windsurf, and they will love the myriad water toys found aboard charter yachts, such as the towed inflatables (for roller-coaster rides), while big kids will enjoy the high-tech, high-octane toys on offer today, such as drones and flyboards. Expect the unexpected, too. Your crew may surprise you with a pirate-themed costumed dinner party or plan a secret picnic for you on a deserted beach. In fact, many crews are so beloved for their knowhow and their sense of fun that they develop a following of charter clients who book the same yacht year after year.
SWITCH OFF Of course, if you’d rather leave all the work back on land, a vacation aboard a luxury charter yacht will certainly relax your mind: sweeping away the muddle from phones and messages and constant business meetings. It will refresh your body: swimming in warm waters and savoring luxurious massages. Most importantly, it will soothe your soul with new vistas every day and the opportunity to spend time with loved ones. If it’s peace you want, a yacht is the perfect place for quiet sunbathing, or you might choose a comfy couch where you can tuck into a good book. With a charter yacht, you can make your vacation anything you want, from mild to wild, and change it again overnight. Whatever your dreams, chartering a luxury yacht is the best way to turn them into special and lasting memories. The world, aboard a luxury charter, is truly your oyster. C H A R TE R F LE E T

While the newest yachts might seem exciting, don’t let the age of a more established yacht turn you off. Many yachts in the charter fleet have undergone thorough and excellent refits, so even an older yacht can be a great choice, especially if you’d like to save money and not pay a premium just because a yacht is brand new. A yacht with good bones, an updated interior and a wonderful crew can be as enjoyable as a flashy new yacht – and sometimes considerably cheaper.
BOOK EARLY
COMMUNICATION IS KEY Communicate early and often – with your broker, chef and captain. Everyone is working hard to make this the best experience for you and your guests, and they can better meet your needs if they know what they are. Likewise, if there is a problem let your crew and broker know so a solution can be found. 6
CHOOSE YOUR TRIBE WISELY Spending a week at sea and taking part in unforgettable experiences is a bonding experience. So decide: is this a family adventure with your closest kin? Or an extended family reunion with multigenerational fun? Perhaps you’re planning a couples’ getaway with a few other likeminded friends. Or maybe it’s more intimate than that – a trip for two to some romantic, faraway land. Make sure you choose your tribe wisely and surround yourself with the right company.
If your dates are flexible, try to visit some of the most popular cruising grounds in their shoulder season or off season, when cruising conditions can still be great and crowds are few. Skip the high season of July and August in the Med and save thousands by booking in June or September instead. For The Bahamas, visit in late April to August – while technically the low season, it can be one of the best times to visit as the windy winter cold fronts are over and you can enjoy perfectly still days.
FIND THE RIGHT YACHT Whatever you are after, there is a yacht out there that will suit you. Whether you’d like a fast-flying sailing superyacht to race in a regatta, an explorer yacht to tour uncharted waters, a yacht large enough for the entire family or a glamorous classic vessel, there’s a boat out there that will be the right match for you and your party. Work with your broker to find the right yacht for you.
CONSIDER YOUR CREW
GO EARLY
The most important consideration is really the crew. Look for a yacht that has a crew
Catch the crew at their freshest by booking at the very beginning of the season – May
LEAVE SOME FREE TIME It might be tempting to pack your days with myriad activities – whether it means embarking on shoreside diversions or taking advantage of all your own yacht has to offer. But remember, one of the advantages of the yachting experience is embracing the laid-back lifestyle and slipping into a slower pace of life. Make sure you leave plenty of unscripted downtime for simple relaxation.

GO SOMEWHERE NEW While you can go nearly anywhere on your travel wish list with a luxury yacht charter, it’s good to have an open mind as your broker will suggest alternatives you might have overlooked. The Med and Caribbean will always be popular – and for good reason. But you might enjoy other areas you never considered, such as New England or the Pacific Northwest, which can be beautiful in October, or even as far afield as New Zealand and Chile, where November through January are the best times to go.

CLIENT
Don’t wait until the last minute to book your charter. The largest, top-quality yachts can often book up months ahead of the season. Don’t miss out on getting the yacht you want – especially if it’s for a particular event, such as the Monaco Grand Prix or Cannes Film Festival, where berths and yachts get booked pretty fast.
EMBRACE THE OFF SEASON
for the Med, November for the Caribbean. While the crew is always great, this insider tip means you’ll get the crew when they are extremely well rested and excited for the new season.
WORLD MAP
A knowledgeable yacht broker will dip into their many years of experience to guide you every step of the way. They know what’s on offer in the market and study all the new yachts and destinations; they are an invaluable resource for you. From New Year’s Eve in Cabo to Art Basel in Miami, there’s a great year in store for charterers
JANUARY For a New Year’s Eve like no other, celebrate with the cultural spectacle and epic party of a Bahamian Junkanoo. A colorful expression of Bahamian arts, the carnival-like procession features dancers and musicians all dressed in elaborate costumes parading down Bay Street in The Bahamas’ capital of Nassau. Cabo, on the Baja California peninsula, has also become popular for NYE festivities, and it’s the perfect jumping-off point for exploring Mexico’s amazing Sea of Cortez.

AUGUST Set in the watery city of Venice, the Venice Film Festival is the oldest such gathering in the world and also the most glamorous. The event includes the requisite film screenings and celebrity sightings that one would expect of one of the leading film festivals. Back in the USA, car lovers from across the globe will be at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
JUNE Beat the heat, crowds and the strong Meltemi winds by heading to the Greek cruising grounds of the Cyclades early in the summer. Or head to Croatia and plan a stop off to take in the fourth annual Rovinj Beach Polo Cup, enjoying the sophisticated sport in a relaxed atmosphere – all an easy tender ride from your yacht waiting in the idyllic harbor.

NOVEMBER Visit the largest boat show in the world at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, then head off for a Bahamian island charter. Motor racing enthusiasts will want to buckle up for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The floodlit race has become the traditional finale to the F1 season and is hosted at Yas Marina.

America’s Cup fans are already salivating about the 2021 event. But long before the new high-performance sailboats square off down in New Zealand, the teams will be tested in competitions around the world. The first America’s Cup World Series regatta will take place in Cagliari, Sardinia in April (18-26). Easter (April 12) is also popular for family charters when you can enjoy good weather and quieter cruising.
Newport is known as the sailing capital of the world, and the Candy Store Cup attracts sailing superyacht owners and their crews to race in these storied waters. In the Maldives around this time, look out for the phenomenal bioluminescent effects around Vaadhoo Island in the Raa Atoll.
Every year more than 2,500 humpback whales gather in the warm waters of Samana Bay in the Dominican Republic to breed. The dreamy Samana Peninsula makes a perfect base for whale watching. Or for something a little cooler, an Antarctica charter will reveal many wonders, from towering icebergs to up-close sightings of killer whales and thousands of penguins in one place.
If superyacht racing is in your wheelhouse, then there is nowhere else to be this spring than in St. Barths for the Bucket. This regatta sees the biggest and most beautiful sailing superyachts fighting it out as they race around the beautiful Caribbean island. It’s the perfect way to follow the colorful Trinidad Carnival, which takes place at the end of February.
Sail into Camden Harbor on the dramatic Maine coast to see the bright explosion of red, yellow and burnt orange leaves. You can also enjoy the autumnal delights of hot apple cider, pumpkin-flavored everything and jovial hay rides – which the kids will love. Or take a yacht to spot the Northern Lights as early as October in Norway.
09 SEPTEMBER
05 MAY When the best seat in the house for a sporting event is on the aft deck of a superyacht, it must be the Monaco Grand Prix. The premier Formula 1 event combines twisting turns, high speed and celebrity-packed parties into one epic weekend in May. This month is also full of cultural diversions to enjoy.
A perfect end to a Côte d’Azur summer is the rousing Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez regatta. Charter a sailboat and take part – or enjoy some spectacular spectating. Tennis lovers should chart a course to the East Coast, arriving in New York City in time for the US Open tennis and mooring at one of the marinas in Manhattan.

10 DECEMBER Gallery-hopping by day, yacht parties by night – Miami’s Art Basel is a mecca for art-loving yacht folk. Two Florida events vie for your attention on the first weekend in December. Classic lovers will want to head to the Ocean Reef Club Vintage Weekend in Key Largo, which shows off vintage boats, cars and airplanes at a chic venue. Meanwhile, over in Thailand, the Kata Rocks Rendezvous combines parties and regatta fun.

OPTIMIZE YOUR CHARTER EXPERIENCE
Let ting t he captain know what you want to do in advance is recommended for creating t he optimal itinerary always means getting exactly the cuisine you’re after. A private yacht chef is better than going to a restaurant. It’s more personal. Rather than having to please an entire restaurant, it’s all about one table and making you and your guests happy. It’s an added level of attention not found on most luxe vacations. Any dietary requests can be met, whether you’re a vegan or just have a specific craving. Food can be flown in and couriered to the yacht if not available in local markets, making Beluga caviar, Japanese wagyu beef and jamón ibérico as ubiquitous as Cristal Champagne.
Once the charter is booked, what do you need to do next? What about childcare? And are there any rules? Prepare for the ultimate yachting vacation with these simple tips
CUSTOMIZE YOUR CHARTER Before boarding your yacht, you’ll fill out a preference list on everything from your favorite Champagne to what you’d like to eat for breakfast. The more precise you are, the easier it is for your crew to prepare for your charter and make sure they have everything on board. Likewise, letting the captain know what you want to do in advance is highly recommended for creating the optimal itinerary. If you want to go places that are quiet and remote it would be silly for the captain to take you to Monaco, and if you want to see and be seen, it might not make sense to go to a remote island in the South Pacific. Brokers, captains and crew like to research what guests will enjoy so they can personalize the itinerary to suit your needs. Let them know what you want so they can deliver it with aplomb.
MIND THE RULES Some yachts don’t allow smoking – and some areas where you cruise don’t allow jet skis, so heed your captain’s and crew’s advice before lighting up or going for a spin.
Exploring the Arctic? Leave the tux at home. Wintering in the Caribbean? Pack light materials but also something to cover up with in the evenings. Yachts have a no-high-heels policy to protect the decks, so be prepared to go barefoot – but there should be no problem having a pedicure on board if need be. Many charter brokers recommend bringing fewer shoes than you’d pack for other trips as so much time is spent barefoot – or with your toes in the sand.
UTILIZE THE BOAT NANNY ON BOARD
DIVIDING THE ROOMS
Don’t assume that the crew will be your nanny. While many crew are excellent with children and can plan fun activities for kids, teaching them watersports and more, if you are looking to unwind completely, then perhaps consider bringing your own childcare. Taking along your nanny is like bringing a part of home – the comfort it brings a child, who’s suddenly thrust into a new environment, cannot be underestimated. Your nanny will know you and your child’s routine and keep them on it, despite any jet lag. If your kids are happy and entertained, you’ll be happy, too.
Many charter yachts are designed with multiple chartering parties in mind and there will be more than one sizable suite, so that no one feels demoted in a smaller cabin. Typically, the largest suite goes to the principal charterer – the one who is inking the contract and footing the brunt of the bill. But if you are planning to travel with couples only and will be sharing costs equally, look for a yacht that has a few master-worthy VIP cabins, and have a discussion in advance about who will get which rooms, to avoid any awkward situations once you step on board.
EAT WELL The chef is here for you. Sometimes that means a midnight snack, other times that means not having breakfast until midday, but it 10
PACK SMART
C H A R TE R F LE E T
Make use of every bit of the boat. The yacht will have amazing toys, enabling all sorts of watersports, and maybe even a yoga instructor, masseuse, hairdresser and diving instructor. You might want to wake up in the morning and do a yoga session, go diving and get a massage. The best part of a yacht? It’s like a floating hotel, but one you have all to yourself. Use it to the full.
WORK WITH YOUR CAPTAIN Heed your captain’s advice on itineraries, transit times and places to visit – there’s no point trying to travel too far and not enjoying the journey. Captains know how to get the most out of the time available on board. They can also sometimes “trick” the itinerary by covering some of the longer distances when guests are asleep – the evening can often be when the weather is calmer as well. Your captain’s experience is a vital ingredient of a successful charter. 11
FAMILY FUN There is no better way to connect the family than having fun together on the water
he family that plays together, stays together, or so the saying goes. A yacht vacation abounds with family bonding opportunities and offers so many ways to create memories that will last a lifetime. Charter yachts are often viewed as adult playgrounds, and that image is supported by brochures showing couples sipping champagne or dressed elegantly for dinner. But that’s only one side of the charter coin. The flip side is that a yacht charter is a wonderful family vacation. A growing number of yachts have gone to great lengths to develop reputations for being family-friendly, and your charter broker can advise you on the ones your family will love.
T
CHOOSE YOUR CREW
A n u m ber of y a chts ha ve g on e t l e n gt hs to be fam o gr e at i l y - fr i e n dl y
A common starting point for a family yacht is the crew, and many charter captains make a point of hiring crew members who like children. Yacht crew members are in the hospitality trade, after all, and can be excellent with children. One captain says his first question in a crew interview is, “Do you like kids?” Some crew are known for being extra-amazing with children, but all crew will have some tricks up their sleeves, whether it’s a pirate treasure hunt on shore or amazing theme nights on board. Youngsters might discover a bottle on a beach, complete with an “ancient” treasure map. Miraculously, the map seems to match a nearby island, sending the excited kids on a hunt that ends
with a treasure chest filled with doubloons of chocolate.
KID-FRIENDLY AMENITIES Just as important as the space on board is what kids can do in them. Board and beach games, films and video games are essential, as are water toys, so safe water access is important. Or on a more traditional sailing yacht, steps and a platform can be set up on the side of the hull. On some larger yachts, owners and designers have taken children’s entertainment to sumptuous heights with cinemas and video game rooms.
Aboard one yacht, that’s when some of the crew take the youngsters on an adventure to leave the adults alone. “We aren’t babysitters,” says the captain, “but we also understand that it’s important to give the parents an afternoon off, so we plan kid-specific diversions or time on the water toys.” For very small or rambunctious children, (or parents bent on sleeping in) nannies are strongly suggested. Many yachts have supernumerary cabins so you can bring your nanny along for the charter. Your charter broker is the best point of reference to find the right boat for this.
LEARNING UNDER WAY Educational opportunities are readily found aboard a yacht, and with a little planning your broker and captain can even provision a teacher or lecturer upon arriving at a destination to give a lesson on your destination’s history and geography. After an afternoon of exploration on land, the gained knowledge can become the key to evening trivia contests or conversation at dinner time.
LITTLE FOODIES The crews on kid-friendly yachts also go the extra mile when it comes to food. Even special baby food or formula can be provisioned aboard. On one charter yacht, the chef knows that kids enjoy galleys, so she dresses them up in sous chef outfits and has them help prepare meals for which they can take credit. For the children who enjoy fishing, there is nothing like catching then cooking and presenting the culinary masterpiece to family at the dinner table.
C H A R TE R F LE E T
TECH OR NO TECH? While one yacht has a 300-game video arcade and an array of board games and video games as well, another captain takes the opposite approach, “confiscating” the ubiquitous electronic games that children bring aboard under the ruse that they interfere with the navigational equipment just like on an airplane. As a replacement, the kids are kept fully engaged with snorkeling, shelling and riding personal watercrafts or water toys – and family time, of course. Another captain turns the yacht charter into an educational opportunity, sharing details about islands and sea life.
SAFETY FIRST
PEACE FOR THE PARENTS
The outfitting of the yacht is important as well. One yacht, built for family use, has baby gates on most doors, pocket doors to protect kids from stairwells, a bathtub, and the crew adds safety nets around the decks for protection when children are aboard. But the yacht still has a sophisticated decor, so that guests don’t feel they’re in a nursery.
These crews also understand that the parents may like to have some private time of their own, whether it’s to walk on a beach by themselves, curl up with a book, or disappear behind, ahem, closed doors.
There is no better way to connect with the family than spending time visiting new places, experiencing amazing things and having fun on the water together. 13
WELLNESS CHARTERS Charter yacht crews don’t just sail, they teach yoga or pilates, perform a massage or therapy and look after the health of their guests
that can double as a yoga shala. And the ever-changing views as you cruise from one beautiful place to another are hard to beat.
g n o i n e b t u o b a g n i h t e m o s s i l p u n g u o t u o y s T her e w o l l a t a h t a e t he s
DETOX ON BOARD One of the joys of chartering is having a highly skilled personal chef to cater to your exacting requests. Yacht chefs are nothing if not flexible and will create a healthy and nourishing menu around any detox or diet fad you desire – from the keto diet to delicious vegan fare and more.
hampagne-soaked parties, decadent meals and white glove service – yachting’s reputation for sinful bliss is getting a makeover thanks to the rising trend in wellness holidays. According to the Global Wellness Institute, wellness travel is expected to rake in $800 billion per year by 2020. Charters are getting in on the action as a yacht is a ready-made luxe wellness retreat – many have fabulous spas, high-end gyms and watersports centers, and their expert chef and crew can cater to your wellbeing needs – or fly in an elite fitness instructor for a week. Here’s how to turn your charter into the ultimate floating wellness getaway.
C
FIND A YACHT WITH SKILLED CREW
MAKE THE YACHT INTO YOUR PRIVATE RETREAT
The latest must-have in crew credentials are yoga, pilates, fitness and massage certifications. Owing to the demand for onboard wellness, charter crew who have any of these on their resumé are highly sought-after.
Most retreats would pale in comparison to the privacy and luxury afforded by a superyacht. Charter companies know this well and have begun offering bespoke wellness services, bringing the retreat experience directly to your yacht.
GET ACTIVE Wellness isn’t all about Zen and detoxing. You can try the best golf courses in the Caribbean, go heli-skiing in Patagonia or kite-surfing off the Dominican Republic. After an active day, return to the yacht for a much needed massage, time in the sauna and a wholesome meal.
CHOOSE A WELLNESS-BRED YACHT Brokers can help you plan a wellness escape, recommending the yachts with the best gym equipment, spas or expansive deck spaces
GO SPA-HOPPING Use the yacht to potter along the coastline of Med, stopping off in the Metropole in Monaco then sailing onto the La Réserve Ramatuelle near Saint-Tropez. Or spa-hop in the Caribbean, cruising from island to island, visiting the Eden Rock in St. Barths and Four Seasons in Anguilla.
HAVE THE GURUS COME TO YOU Take your favorite personal trainer or pilates instructor from home along with you so you don’t miss a beat. Or sample a new expert, perhaps flying in a meditation guru who can curate a relaxation escape and help you unwind. 14
C H A R TE R F LE E T
PICK A YACHT PRIMED FOR SPORT There’s no reason why you can’t shoot a few hoops or play golf from the sundeck. Find a yacht that has a full sports court or a golf set-up, which makes the entire sea your driving range while eco-friendly balls double as fish food.
REVITALIZE The downsides of traveling halfway around the world to visit an epic charter destination is the jet lag that goes along with it. But what if the moment you step on board the yacht you could start to be revived? Many yachts today are equipped with the latest wellness tech and chronotherapy experiences designed for revitalization. Readjust your circadian rhythms in a specially designed jet lag room or enjoy an experiential shower with targeted light therapy and scents to bring you back to life.
UNPLUG There is something about being on the sea that allows you to connect with nature and unplug from everything else. Take this seclusion a step further by mindfully planning a digital detox. Today’s charter yachts are equipped with the latest technology to keep you connected, but there is something truly satisfying about turning off the phone and being unreachable – even if just for a few days. Perhaps go somewhere remote where you’ll be forced to lose signal, such as the further reaches of the Galápagos. Even better, charter a classic yacht and pretend you’re in a bygone era, before such nuisances as mobile phones were even imagined. 15
ADVENTURE READY
boat for days. Many charter yachts have their own dive masters as well as tank refill equipment, and you can even certify your skills while chartering – either learning to dive or upgrading to an advanced certification. If you fancy any kind of active adventure, a luxury charter yacht can make it a reality. Kite-surf the breezy but smooth waters off Aruba or settle in at a luxury marina in Montenegro, which is only a helicopter hop away from untouched slopes for skiing and snowboarding. Want to land a trophy-sized billfish for the wall of your den? A yacht charter can put you in the prime spots of The Bahamas or off Costa Rica and Panama. Your skipper can even arrange to have your mounted trophy shipped to your home. If golf is your bag (excuse the pun), you can cruise from course to course through the Caribbean, taking on one challenging design after another – enjoying staggering views of the ocean from the fairways. When it comes to adventure, the wilder the better. Want to swim with giant whale sharks in Mexico’s Sea of Cortez? Fish for piranhas in the Amazon? Helicopter in to a mountain stream and cast a fly, and then
Does seeing the Northern Lights, conquering the Northwest Passage or tackling the icebergs of Antarctica top your bucket list? A yacht charter can help you fulfill these dreams and more
re you someone who revels more in the stunning beauty of the natural world than the stunning bill of a luxury shopping trip? If so, an adventure charter is just what you need. Adventure doesn’t mean a lack of luxury, of course. You will discover the natural wonders of the world from the deck of your yacht, replete with comfortable accommodation, spa tubs and seven-star service that you’ve come to expect from a yacht vacation. Explore the high latitudes of the Northwest Passage, visit local tribes in the South Pacific, play golf in the Caribbean or heli-ski in Patagonia – returning to the yacht for hot cocoa or a cocktail to celebrate a day well spent. If you can dream it, a luxury charter yacht can make it happen. There are some travelers who are happy to see and be seen, and then there are those who want to see it all. Adventure comes in many forms: this might mean a physical challenge, a chance to engage in a favorite sport in a distant place, or perhaps something more mentally stimulating – traveling off the beaten track and seeing and experiencing something entirely different. Imagine watching the Northern Lights from the deck of your own private yacht. Or maybe getting up close and personal with penguins in Antarctica is more your thing. Or venturing up a steaming jungle river through a tropical rainforest, while watching Bogie in The African Queen in air-conditioned luxury. Perhaps you’d prefer to play the best golf course in the Caribbean, with your yacht taking you right there.

ACTIVE CHARTERS Whatever your choice of adventure, a luxury charter yacht is your chariot. If you’re a scuba diver, you can explore incredible dive sites in the most remote island chains where you may not see another 16

have your catch grilled for dinner aboard your yacht? Explore the sunken warships in Micronesia’s Truk Lagoon? All of this and so much more is waiting for you on your luxury adventure charter.
ROUTES LESS TRAVELED There’s no club quite so exclusive as the one for those who have reached the last true wilderness. Some owners send their yachts to circle the globe, allowing charterers to step on board in faraway places such as New Caledonia, with its huge barrier reef, or Thailand, to visit the sea gypsy villages on stilts. Planning a true adventure – a voyage to the Antarctic or a drift along the Pacific’s remotest shores – gives a special purpose to a charter. It also requires a tough boat and experienced crew. This is where an adventure specialist company can enhance the experience, making sure visitors don’t miss any of the good stuff. Your broker, captain and adventure charter specialists will know it takes local knowledge to find the best concentrations of wildlife and that a guide will enhance a remote cruising experience, so you’ll never miss a polar bear sighting. Want to see polar bears and reindeer and marvel at the aurora borealis? Then Svalbard, an archipelago halfway to the North Pole from Norway, the largest island of which is Spitsbergen, is for you. You can find both dolphin and penguins around New Zealand’s wild South Island, and only 32 of the 177 islands of Tonga are inhabited, so they remain much as when Captain Cook first saw them on his travels almost 250 years ago. An adventure charter can be whatever you want to make it, from a trip brimming with energetic activities to one of relaxed discovery and contemplation. Whatever your taste for exploration, there is a luxury charter yacht equipped and positioned to satisfy any appetite. 17
TOY STORY From drones to motorized surfboards and tenders that can drive up a beach, playtime on a charter yacht has never been so good
alf the fun of being on board a superyacht is getting to play around in the water. In the past, this might have meant launching a kayak or jet skis, but today’s toys are the stuff of futuristic dreams, like hover boards and electric surfboards that allow you to fly across the water, no waves required. There are also plenty of fun pieces of tech to be enjoyed from the deck of your yacht, like drones for photographing your day’s exploits or a telescope for gazing at all the amazing stars you’ll see. You might hear your charter captain refer to the “toy box” – no, he’s not talking about playing with Lego, but breaking out the big boy (and girl) toys. There are always new offerings coming on the market designed to spark the interest of even the most mature adults and remind them of the child-like fun of playtime. Likewise, every superyacht needs a good tender, and these aren’t just a matter of conveying guests to shore but can be a thrill in their own right, too. It’s a big watery world out there, so don’t forget to have some fun in it. There’s some amazing tech to be found inside as well, in the gym or even your stateroom.

The aluminum and carbon-fiber Skydio R1 drone features 13 cameras each powered by the NVIDIA Jetson AI processor. The upshot of all this surveillance is that it can map the world around it in real time, independently capturing footage. There’s also no need for manual control, as once you assign a target, the R1 sticks to it like glue, while avoiding even the most complex and hazardous environments, which is key when launching a drone from a yacht.
PRETTY SWELL Making it a whole lot easier to travel with your favorite board, industrial designer and master surfboard shaper Thomas Meyerhoffer has created the 2PRT Modular Surfboard. It’s a two-part design that lets you pack the board down to a manageable size so that it can even sidestep excess baggage charges. But portability is only half the draw here as surfers can combine various nose and tail styles to create the perfect board for your skill level and swell conditions. The initial set should include one nose and two tails, with additional parts, including a travel bag, available separately.
SURF’S UP Designed exclusively for certified MotoSurf World Cup racers, Jetsurf ’s Race Titanium motorized surfboard has a 100 percent carbon fiber hull, a titanium exhaust and a two-stroke 100cc MSR engine that gives up to three hours of full throttle action. How fast is full throttle? The board can reach its top speed of 40mph in just 2.8 seconds, while the three fins positioned just below the exhaust should give the rider good control, even on the tightest turns.
STARGAZER Point it skyward, connect the app, choose your constellation and let the Vaonis Stellina portable smart telescope do the rest. No bigger than a briefcase (24lb, 19in by 15in by 5in), this motorized smart telescope takes total control of the image processing, tracking the star, planet or constellation while overlaying multiple exposures to reduce noise and create a spectacular galaxy-worthy photograph.

CYCLE SKILLS Developed in collaboration with athletes, trainers and academic researchers, the Technogym Skillbike is the first stationary bike with a real mechanical gear shift and the ability to incline and decline from -3 percent up to +15 percent. As a result, you can challenge yourself to some of the toughest hill climbs imaginable – you can even download famous routes via Strava – using real road cycling skills while benefiting from continual pedal-stroke analysis to enhance your technique. It’s a great piece of kit to have in a superyacht gym, so you can pedal away as you enjoy the views.
SURF AND TURF Powered by up to 400hp of outboard, the sharp-looking Iguana 29 tender can crack 40 knots, but for once the big news is not the offshore performance; it is what it can do on shore. Lower the twin, hydraulically driven caterpillar tracks, which are powered by an inboard petrol or electric motor, and drive straight up the beach for the ultimate yacht-to-shore transfer. Those caterpillar tracks spread the weight so efficiently that the manufacturer states that if you can stand on it, you can drive over it. Never has beach access been so easy or so incredibly cool.
NICE DECK Heading ashore for supplies has become a lot more fun with Boosted’s latest electric longboard, the Boosted Plus skateboard, with its generous 14-mile range and an even more generous top speed of 22mph. The Bluetooth-connected composite deck offers maximum flex and a natural feel for the rider, while its 3.3-inch Stratus wheels keep stone-induced hang-ups to a minimum. It will take an adult up a 25 percent gradient and four ride modes mean performance will improve with your balance. 19

Outdoor adventures and unique experiences abound in America’s last frontier
THE ITINERARY Day One Ketchikan to Boca de Quadra: Fly into Ketchikan to meet your yacht. Depart this little port town and head into the wilderness. Depending on the time of year, you might spot orca whales. You’ll cruise into Mink Arm, Boca de Quadra – a serene spot surrounded by lush greenery – where you’ll anchor for the night. Dine on the yacht’s aft deck, cuddled in cozy blankets, before retiring indoors for a movie night in the yacht’s very own cinema.
outheast Alaska is one of the most spectacular ice destinations you can visit on a superyacht. Cruising past the immense blue-green hulk of a glacier is sure to take your breath away and there are plenty of them here to do just that. From its maze of uninhabited islands, to the towering snow-covered mountains ashore and the unparalleled solitude that this remote corner of the United States offers, you’re guaranteed to see and experience things you’ve never before encountered. Also famously known as the Alaskan Panhandle, Southeast Alaska is now synonymous with outdoor adventure. Your itinerary can be tailored to create the experience of a lifetime by adding activities ranging from helicopter picnics atop a glacier, to sea kayaking, rock climbing, hiking or casting a fly into a stream chock-full of salmon. Or you can just peacefully enjoy a fine bottle of wine and a gourmet dinner aboard your yacht as the sunset paints the mountains and sky all around you with a glorious rosy glow. In among the many islands of Southeast Alaska, you’re likely to see humpback whales breaching, seals lounging on the rocks or pods of orcas swimming in the distance. Day Two Hugh Smith Lake: Breakfast is served against the backdrop of this stunning scenery. Afterwards, hike to Hugh Smith Lake for more breathtaking views. The rest of the day can be spent with onshore exploration and a picnic lunch. Dinner will be served on board, perhaps enjoying fresh fish and crab caught that day.
Day T hree Ella Bay: Arrive at Ella Bay and after breakfast it’s time to head ashore for a meander
on the Ella Lake trail. Animal encounters are the norm here: expect anything from wild mink to bears. Anglers can cast a line in the river for trout; land a few and it’s fresh trout for dinner on board tonight. Then retire to the salon for drinks and a movie.
Day Four Punchbowl Cove to Manzanita Bay: One of the most magnificent stopovers on an itinerary filled with mindblowing locations is Punchbowl Cove, where vertical rock walls surround the impressive fjords. Cruising through this cove has been compared with being able to sail through Yosemite National Park. After exploring the fjords, head into Manzanita Bay to drop the hook. It’s a night completely tucked away from civilization – enjoy solitude and starry skies.
Day Five Manzanita Bay: Start the morning with a challenging hike, which rewards your efforts with beautiful waterfalls. For those who prefer to cast a line, the fishing here is excellent. If the weather is warm enough, have the crew unfurl the inflatable
slide and have fun plunging into the water. Stick around this relaxing spot for another night.
Day Six Walker Cove: It’s a short jaunt to the postcard-perfect Walker Cove, surrounded by 4,000ft peaks. Birdwatchers can try to catch a glimpse of trumpeter swans, bald eagles and herons. It’s a lovely place to tour on the kayaks – or have the crew take you for a tender ride to get a closer view of the waterfalls plunging into the sea. There’s also a chance to see bears and harbor seals. Your chef will prepare a wonderful dinner.
Day Seven Bell Island: This morning, take off for a helicopter tour, looking down on the beautiful lands and waters you’ve been exploring. After an active week, nothing beats a soothing soak at Bell C H A R TE R F LE E T
Island Hot Springs. Natives have long used these waters for medicinal purposes. Unwind in the springs, then enjoy cocktails and a great meal on board your yacht.
Day E ight Ketchikan: On your last day, make your way back to Ketchikan. Bid farewell to your crew before returning to the buzz of the real world. 25
The hidden gem that is Desolation Sound never ceases to amaze its lucky visitors

Give yourself time to explore Vancouver before boarding a seaplane that will take you to Desolation Sound. The plane will touch down in the quaint harbor of Refuge Cove, where there’s an art gallery, general store and cafe serving up delicious salmon burgers and freshly baked cakes. Your yacht awaits you here.
he vast cruising grounds of British Columbia might just be the best place you haven’t been yet. Perched right on the Pacific, Canada’s westernmost province of British Columbia is known for its rugged beauty. It’s a magical cruising destination full of natural wonders and cultural diversions, giving visitors so much to explore. Desolation Sound, named rather inaccurately by the British explorer George Vancouver, is a true hidden gem. This beautifully pristine cruising ground boasts some epic landscapes, quaint villages and many protected anchorages. You’ll feel as if you’re worlds away from your busy life, but you can be here in about an hour on a flight from Vancouver. Nature lovers in particular are drawn here, and it’s easy to see why. But visitors can also hike, bike or take to the water and explore the coastline in kayaks. You can discover tidal pools along the shore, buy fresh fish – or catch them yourself – and have your chef cook it up that night on board as part of a gourmet meal. A jaunt to British Columbia will give you glimpses of pretty and charming seaside towns, take you to artistic enclaves and put you right on the doorstep of the most beautiful natural parks. From outdoorsy adventures in the fresh sea air to adding to your art collection and dining on amazingly fresh seafood, it’s all yours for the taking in British Columbia.

Day Two Pendrell Sound: This protected anchorage is the ideal place to break out the water toys as the water here averages 74F
over the year – it’s known for having the warmest water north of Mexico. Then take a tender tour – bring the camera to capture any wildlife sightings. Dine al fresco on the upper deck that night, basking under the glow of a sky full of stars.
Day T hree Prideaux Haven: Arrive at another protected anchorage set in the heart of Desolation Sound. Prideaux Haven is a gathering point for yachtspeople who enjoy traversing the fjords, taking in the stunning mountainous scenery and making great wildlife sightings. This is one of the most popular anchorages in Desolation Sound, and you’ll soon see why.
Day Four Bliss Landing: This is a peaceful spot that’s deserving of its name. Take a kayak ride or paddleboard along the quiet shoreline, or perhaps try some waterskiing or wakeboarding in the flat-calm waters. Later,
enjoy sundowners as the sun dips beyond the horizon painting the blissful waters in a warm orange glow.
Day Five Lund: Today, you’ll cruise to the tiny seaside village of Lund. Visit Nancy’s Bakery to pick up some of her famed cinnamon rolls, and pop into Pollen Sweaters to shop for incredibly warm wool sweaters. This is also the perfect place to put the hiking boots to good use as just seven miles north of Lund is Sarah Point, which marks the start of the 112-mile Sunshine Coast Trail. Take to the picturesque route for a day hike with a picnic, lovingly prepared by your yacht’s chef. After a day blazing trails, retire to the yacht and soak in the hot tub.
Day Six Savary Island: When you wake up at today’s destination, you might think you’re in the Caribbean and not the Pacific Northwest. Savary Island has C H A R TE R F LE E T
a sparkling white sand beach that surely rivals any in the world, so take a picnic ashore and enjoy an epic beach day. And it’s also a great spot for your captain to drop a prawn trap so you can enjoy the fresh catch for dinner, your last fabulous one on board.
Day Seven Powell River to Vancouver: From Powell River, take the short flight back to Vancouver, looking out below at the vastness of the amazing areas you discovered, all while making lifelong memories with your friends and family. 27
Dive into Mexico’s watery wonderland – and the celebrity favorite of Cabo
THE ITINERARY Day One Loreto: Fly into Loreto International Airport and meet your yacht at Marina Puerto Escondido. You can either head to the mountains to tour the restored San Javier Mission church (one of the best preserved in Baja) or just settle in on board and get to know the crew while sipping a cocktail.
acques Cousteau called the Sea of Cortez the “aquarium of the world.” The narrow strip of water between Mexico’s Baja peninsula and the mainland, the Sea of Cortez remains largely a secret waiting to be discovered. Cousteau’s moniker is accurate: here you can dive with massive, gentle whale sharks or play tag with spirited sea lion pups. The wildlife below and above the water is just part of the draw. The scenery is breathtaking: desert mountains towering over clear-ascan-be turquoise seas. It’s the perfect backdrop for watersports, hiking, beach barbecues or simply dining al fresco and marveling at the starry sky in a land free from light pollution. Best of all, you will see few tourists and even fewer boats – superyachts do come here, but it’s nothing compared to the busy winter cruising destinations. When you’re done with the seclusion, head for the southernmost tip of the Baja Peninsula, where you will find the celebrity haunts of Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, both of which boast high-end hotels, shopping, excellent restaurants – a Nobu opened recently – and tequila-fueled nightlife. A huge private airport makes it easy for visitors to jet in and out of Cabo and explore the stunning Sea of Cortez beyond. Cabo is also an ideal place to ring in the New Year, with exciting festivities and a series of dazzling fireworks exploding off the coast – best seen by boat, of course.

The quintessential American seaside summer wrapped up in one gorgeous itinerary
THE ITINERARY Day One Newport, Rhode Island: Meet your yacht in Newport, regarded as the sailing capital of the world – fittingly so as it’s home to the famed New York Yacht Club, which kept the America’s Cup trophy safe for more than a hundred years. Take time to visit some of the historic mansions that line the shore, peruse the boutiques and enjoy dinner at The Dining Room at Castle Hill Inn, for delectable seafood and wonderful sunset views.
ncredible beaches, fabulous seafood, great sailing and quality family time – New England is simply synonymous with summer fun. Yankee traditions are strong here, from beachside lobster bakes to the famed gray-shingled houses that line Nantucket’s shores. And it’s all touched, of course, by brilliant sunshine. Boats can explore the picturesque coastline, while on shore you will find quaint cobblestoned streets, shuttered clapboard houses, precious antique shops and piping hot clam chowder. New England is steeped in history, especially a rich nautical heritage. Visit the Nantucket Whaling Museum or the hallowed halls of the New York Yacht Club in Newport, Rhode Island, which kept the America’s Cup trophy safe for so many years. Newport has long been the gateway to New England, especially for sailors, and is oft referred to as “the sailing capital of the world.” Though they lie together off the coast of Massachusetts, the islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket each have their own characters and appeal. And over on the Cape Cod peninsula, the village of Hyannis is widely regarded as an outpost for American royalty – the Kennedys have vacationed here for generations. Each place seems strikingly similar, yet still has a unique feel and attitude. One thing that holds true throughout is the unhurried pace of life and the joy of summers well spent.

The island is a summer haven, dotted with pretty beaches, harbor towns and cliffs topped by lighthouses. After a visit to the brightly colored cliffs at Aquinnah, sail around to Vineyard Haven and stop at the Black Dog Tavern for clam chowder at lunch. t’s truly better in the Bahamas. Just ask anyone who has been lucky enough to visit the Exuma Islands. The island chain is known for its spellbindingly beautiful blue waters, which are some of the most gorgeous to be found anywhere in the world, as many a yacht captain will attest. Here, the turquoise sea kisses the white sand beaches of quiet anchorages and picture-perfect sandbars that are simply imploring you to come and enjoy a picnic. The Exumas has 365 unique islands, and celebrities from Johnny Depp and Tim McGraw to David Copperfield have become so enamored with the Exumas that they’ve bought their own islands in this bewitching archipelago. Diving and snorkeling is out of this world, from fish-packed reefs to the famed Thunderball Grotto off Staniel Cay, a cave that featured in the James Bond movie of that name. There is also a plethora of wildlife to encounter – from the friendly nurse sharks at Compass Cay (which you can pet and swim with) to the giant iguanas at Allen’s Cay and the now famous swimming pigs found at the island of Big Major’s Spot. You can also discover gourmet restaurants tucked away on private islands and some famously fun bars. Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas last year but affected only a portion of the country. Step back in time to the most colorful and evocative of Caribbean destinations
THE ITINERARY Day One Havana: Meet your yacht at Marina Hemingway, named after, Ernest Hemingway, who loved Cuba and lived on the island for many years. The marina is just a 30-minute drive from downtown Havana, where you can wander the streets, taking in the curious contradiction of its fading colonial architecture and vibrant culture. That night, arrive at the legendary Tropicana club in a vintage car and enjoy Latin music, dancing and plenty of Cuban rum.
ith its photogenic classic 1950s cars, mind-blowing mojitos and an entirely unique sensation of stepping back in time, Cuba is a Caribbean destination with a difference. Despite becoming more accessible to superyachts in recent years, Cuba is still largely undeveloped and as a result has an unpolished charm. Traveling here requires an open and inquisitive mindset, certainly. But at the end of the day – or night if you spend it dancing salsa in Havana – there is always the comfort of your own superyacht to return to, which rivals any visitor accommodations found on shore. When most people think of Cuba, they picture the crumbling, colorful, colonial architecture of Havana. But there is much to see beyond this fabled city, and luckily a yacht is the perfect way to see it. Discovering Cuba by boat gives guests a chance to sample the history and heady nightlife of Havana while also taking in the island’s natural beauty, all in supreme luxury and comfort on board the yacht of their choosing. Cuba has some amazing diving – much of which you can have virtually to yourself as the island is still off the superyacht tourist track. This itinerary combines the charms of old-school Havana with the raw wilderness, exceptional diving and sugar-white idyllic beaches of Cuba’s southern coastline. Cuba will never be the same for you again.

BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS
Day One

Guana Island: Meet your yacht in a secluded anchorage in White Bay, in front of a white sand beach on the private, 850-acre Guana Island. There are several great snorkeling options nearby in crystal clear water – small colorful coral patches in shallower depths make it an ideal place for beginners. Enjoy sundowner cocktails on the yacht and dinner overlooking this gorgeous setting.
he British Virgin Islands, known to all as the BVI, have long been a favorite of those who like a dash of sportiness with their cruising – whether it be scuba diving or epic sailboat racing. These Caribbean islands are family friendly and a party spot in equal measure, genuinely offering something for everyone. Two years after being battered by Hurricane Irma, the BVI have bounced back and are eager to welcome guests again. Lend your support by visiting and helping the islands and their economy flourish. No matter how many times you visit, there is always something new to discover, such as new restaurants at the beautiful Oil Nut Bay compound on Virgin Gorda – pop over in the tender to dine at its marina-side Nova restaurant. But there are some tried and tested haunts that never go out of fashion, too, such as famed bars like Foxy’s and the Soggy Dollar on Jost Van Dyke, which were quickly rebuilt after the storm. A certain British entrepreneur may have put the British Virgin Islands on the luxury travel map, but sailors know the attractions extend far beyond Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island. Don’t miss a chance to take part in some epic wreck diving, or on land meander through the beautiful rock formations of the Baths on Virgin Gorda. This itinerary balances adrenaline-fueled activities with picturesque anchorages and the odd rum cocktail thrown in for good measure.

Day Two Norman Island: The stunning coastal trip to Norman Island, believed to have been the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic Treasure Island, passes between Great Camanoe and Beef Island. There are several good lunch spots to stop at along the way. Explore the many excellent dive sites off neighboring Pelican Island, as well as the Indians, another top diving spot found just outside the Bight anchorage. Afterwards, tender to the famed pirate ship bar Willy T to take in the sunset – and another sundowner or two.

This island is renowned for its nightlife, too – start at the Soggy Dollar bar, then dance the night away at Foxy’s, both of which have been renovated and are better than ever! Foxy’s is also known for its legendary New Year’s Eve parties, so if you’re down here for NYE, don’t miss it.

Chart a course to discover these Caribbean favorites that never go out of style
THE ITINERARY Day One St. Maarten/St. Martin: Divided by Dutch and French claimants, the island of St. Maarten/St. Martin has numerous superyacht marinas and inbound international flights, making it a good place to start your charter. After settling in on board, head over to Orient Bay, one of the best beaches in the Caribbean. At the aptly named Sunset Beach Bar, you can watch planes skim over the beach as they land nearby. When you’re hungry, make sure to stop at Grand Case beach, which is renowned for its myriad great restaurants, such as Le Cottage.
ocated between Puerto Rico and Dominica on the northeastern rim of the Caribbean Sea, the Leeward Islands present a beguiling range of destinations. Each is markedly different, yet their close proximity and generally calm waters make for effortless cruising. The variety and accessibility of the islands mean this is one of the most popular cruising grounds in the world, no doubt helped that one of the prime Leeward ports of call is the superstylish island of St. Barths, which is a charter mainstay. Those who want a spot quayside in Gustavia on New Year’s Eve – one of the best places in the world to ring in the New Year – or during the St. Barths Bucket superyacht regatta in March are advised to make their reservations well in advance. The Leeward Islands are made up of the US Virgin Islands, BVIs, Anguilla, St. Martin, super-chic St. Barths, historic Antigua and Barbuda, lush St. Kitts and Nevis, and volcanic Guadeloupe. This seven-day itinerary takes in the very best the islands have to offer. If you prefer a slower pace and would rather see fewer islands, that is always an option as well. It is the perfect mix of everything and nothing. Ideal for those wanting to sample what the Caribbean has to offer, from its flashy to its natural side. You’d be unlikely to find a better Caribbean primer if you tried.

Day Two Anguilla: After a leisurely breakfast, make a short hop north to Anguilla and be there in plenty of time for lunch. Drop the anchor in Sandy Ground and visit Scilly Cay, a restaurant on a tiny cay in the middle of Island Harbour Bay that specializes in lobster. Write off the rest of the afternoon as you drink rum cocktails and eat delicious barbecued lobster. Perhaps duck into the Four Seasons hotel for a spa treatment so you can fully unwind and settle into your vacation. That night, dine on board and admire the starry sky above.
Day T hree Anguilla to St. Barths: St. Barths is a Caribbean staple, a luxurious, beautiful little island where the rich and C H A R TE R F LE E T
famous have vacationed for eons. The main port of Gustavia has excellent shopping, from Cartier to Chanel, lining the quayside where the superyachts moor. Stroll, shop and relax in cafes, but don’t forget the island’s natural beauty – take a lap in the tender, stopping at any of the 32 gorgeous beaches. Book a table for lunch at the beachside Shellona, and for dinner don’t miss the elegant gardens and delicious fare at Tamarin.
Day Four St. Barths to Antigua: From St. Barths, head for Antigua, settling in with a good book as the inky blue Caribbean Sea slips beneath your yacht. Arrive in time for lunch and spend the afternoon exploring Nelson’s Dockyard on foot or take a walk to Fort Berkeley, with its fantastic views. In the evening, sit out with a rum cocktail and dine on the aft deck.
Day Five Antigua: Take the tender out to explore. Beach-hop along the south coast’s beautiful, white-sand beaches. With 365 beaches to choose from, it is
still possible to find secluded anchorages. Have a car take you up to Shirley Heights, where you can enjoy the most spectacular views at sunset.
Day Six Antigua to St. Kitts and Nevis: After breakfast, the yacht will make its way to the lush islands of St. Kitts and Nevis. If you want to see the Caribbean as it used to be, this is where to look. There is no duty-free shopping center, just a sleepy Caribbean island that hasn’t changed much in 50 years, the one exception being the new Christophe Harbour marina, which is helping draw more superyachts. There’s plenty to do here though, from volcano hikes to zip lining. Have a sundowner at SALT Plage bar at Christophe Harbour, and dine on board your yacht.
Day Seven St. Kitts to St. Martin: Cruise to St. Martin and before flying home, spend a few hours playing with the water toys and soaking up the sun, or do some serious duty-free shopping, taking gifts – and precious memories – home with you. 39

ith the landscape clothed in dense rainforest and waters teeming with a rainbow of fish and gigantic sea turtles, the chain of islands that makes up the Lesser Antilles offers some of the best cruising in the Caribbean for those seeking the solitude of nature. In many ways, it’s the Caribbean the way it used to be. St. Lucia and the Grenadines offer charter yacht guests rustic beauty, served up Caribbean-style. You can hike to beautiful waterfalls, drop the hook in empty anchorages, walk whitesand beaches and find that thatched hut beach bar. Starting in St. Lucia, which is famed for its twin Pitons mountains and is regarded as one of the most beautiful and romantic islands in the Caribbean, this relaxed route takes you through the unspoiled beauty of the Grenadines. You will wind your way southward, through smaller, more desolate cays, allowing guests a feeling of reconnecting with nature along the way. And after experiencing the delights of St. Vincent, Canouan and Mayreau – where you can eat, swim, snorkel, play golf and exhaust the yacht’s supply of toys – you’ll finally emerge into the buzzing markets, spellbinding waterfalls and chocolate farms of the spice island of Grenada. Its capital city, St. George’s, has earned the reputation of being the “prettiest Caribbean town.” For that, and many other reasons, this is one itinerary you don’t want to miss.

The top bucket-list destination for wildlife enthusiasts will wow you as much as it did Darwin
THE ITINERARY Day One Santa Cruz: Start your Galápagos adventure by visiting the highlands of Santa Cruz. The lush vegetation on the island attracts a host of exciting birds and provides visitors with a rare opportunity to see giant Galápagos tortoises in their natural habitat. In the afternoon, you can visit the Charles Darwin Research Station and Galápagos National Park headquarters. After a day of roaming Santa Cruz, it’s time to meet your yacht and enjoy a lovely dinner on board.
ut on their own, some 500 miles west of Ecuador and right on the Equator, the Galápagos Islands were made famous by Charles Darwin, the English naturalist who visited in the 1830s and came away with the basis of the theory of evolution. The best way to see the islands today is still Darwin’s way – living aboard a boat and going ashore to observe and wonder at the remarkable wildlife. Though the charter yachts that take you there will seem a lot more glamorous than Darwin’s sloop, Beagle, the friendliness of the wildlife has hardly changed. You can swim with sea lions, scuba dive with hammerhead sharks, hike over islands spotting bluefooted boobies and albatrosses doing their signature mating dance or watch as giant tortoises lay their eggs in the sand. These animals are blissfully unafraid of humans. Although a luxury yacht charter in the Galápagos, or cruising on a private yacht, comes with specific restrictions, with the government of Ecuador dictating only specific routes, the volcanic archipelago still offers some of the most enchanting cruising in the world. With unique wildlife and numerous bucket-list dives, the Galápagos reward the adventurous with a once-in-a-lifetime experience. This suggested itinerary explores the eastern side of the archipelago, inviting visitors to experience the best of what the Galápagos Islands have to offer.

The island has a number of endemic species, including the Española mockingbird, lava lizard and waved albatross. In the afternoon, visit Punta Suarez, famed for its albatross breeding colony. The birds, which mate for life, can be observed between mid-April and November, performing an intriguing mating dance that can last for several days.
Day T hree San Cristóbal & Kicker Rock: Today, you’ll awake off San Cristóbal, the island where C H A R TE R F LE E T
Darwin first went ashore. Head for Punta Pitt, which is the only place where you can see all three species of boobies: blue-footed, red-footed and Nazca. In the afternoon, take a short ride in the tender out to Kicker Rock, which offers fantastic snorkeling and is one of the best places in the world to swim with sharks. Watch the stunning sunset against the orange rock formation.
Day Four Santa Fe & South Plaza: Arrive at Santa Fe Island, also known as Barrington Island after the British admiral,
Samuel Barrington. Its white sand beaches are normally covered with sea lions, and the island is also famous for its land iguanas. Go kayaking or snorkeling in the turquoise waters, which are packed with a variety of fish, including eels and rays, as well as urchins. In the afternoon, visit the small island of South Plaza, which has one of the biggest sea lion colonies in the archipelago.
Day Five Genovesa & Prince Philip’s Steps: The next morning your yacht will arrive at the horseshoe-shaped Genovesa Island. Disembark at Darwin Bay on to a small sand and coral beach and follow a short trail along a tidal lagoon for truly wonderful views. In the afternoon, visit Prince Philip’s Steps, a natural stairway in the rocks named after the British royal who visited in 1965 and again in 1981.
Day Six Santiago & Bartolomé Islands: The penultimate day will be spent taking in the islands of Santiago and Bartolomé. Santiago is thought to be the second island visited by Darwin and is now one of the most popular tourist sites. You can start your day at Sullivan Bay, which will allow you to walk across recent lava flow. In the afternoon, visit Pinnacle Rock, which juts out from Bartolomé’s northern bay. Then either climb the trail to the top of the island to take in the stunning views or you can snorkel in the bay, enjoying a rare opportunity to swim with penguins.
Day Seven Rábida Island: On the final day of your adventure you can visit the islands of Rábida and Sombrero Chino. You will land at Red Beach, which is famous for its wading birds and ghost crabs. Behind the beach there is a saltwater lagoon that, at certain times of the year, will allow you to spot feeding and breeding flamingos. After lunch, visit the tiny Sombrero Chino island. On shore you can land at a small white sand beach before walking along a trail that allows you to see several kinds of lava. Then head back on board for one more dinner before disembarking at Baltra Island the next morning. 43

THE ITINERARY
ast, exotic, wild and infinite in its beauty. That’s how Patagonia was described by the explorers who arrived here almost 500 years ago. Little has changed as today’s visitors will discover a truly unspoiled wilderness of mountains, fjords, glaciers, forests and steppes. This itinerary takes you through the wonders of Southern Patagonia. You can marvel at the imposing millennial glaciers (of which there are hundreds) and experience close encounters with whales, dolphins and penguins. You can even make Cape Horn – the southernmost tip of the continent – your destination, or continue by sea to Antarctica, truly a scientific and ecological treasure. Navigating the countless fjords and channels, and cruising the famous Strait of Magellan, are experiences you will never forget. The landmarks found on the charts bear the names of mystical places such as Cape Horn, Tierra del Fuego and the Drake Passage. A world of stunning beauty, with the imposing backdrop of the Andes, will be the sailor’s constant companion. However, the real surprises will be provided by the great variety of landscapes, the wilderness, which remains very much as it was when first seen by man, the numerous species of plants and animals, and the people themselves, whose natural sense of solidarity has been further strengthened by the great loneliness and harsh climate of the region.

After a busy day, relish the chance of a gourmet dinner on board.
Puerto Profundo to Isla Carlos III: You’ll be heading southeast towards Isla Carlos III along the western side of the Strait of Magellan. Isla Carlos III is home to the Parque Marino Francisco Coloane, the first and only Chilean marine park created to preserve humpback whales and a great place for whalewatching (December to April). Kayaking, paddleboarding and hiking on and around Isla Carlos III will make you more than ready to unwind in the yacht’s spa tub that evening.
Day Two Bahia Isthmus to Puerto Profundo: In the morning, cruise alongside the Alacalufes National Reserve on the way to Puerto Profundo. This wide, sheltered basin north of Islote Fairway provides a very good anchorage in case of unfavorable weather conditions.
Day Six
Day Fou Carlos III to Seno Chico: As the yacht cruises towards Seno Chico, it will leave the Strait of Magellan and enter the Magdalena Channel, which leads to the Cockburn Channel on the northern side of the Alberto de Agostini National Park, the third largest protected area in Chile. Day Five Seno Chico to Caleta Gómez: Caleta Gómez marks the entrance to “Glacier Alley,” where several larger glaciers are located on the southern side of the Alberto de Agostini National Park. Much of the landscape of the park has been sculpted by glaciers, forming amazing scenery. Take a helicopter tour for a bird’s-eye view of the spectacular Glacier Alley. Then enjoy a sumptuous dinner on board. C H A R TE R F LE E T
Caleta Gómez to Caleta Olla: Your yacht will enter Paso Darwin, which was named in 1833 to commemorate the Beagle’s passage through here. Those ending the trip here can catch a charter plane to Punta Arenas or Santiago for their trip back home. The bold will sail on for further adventures. 45
The most awe-inspiring and far-flung destination – you just have to see it for yourself
THE ITINERARY
here is a reason why Antarctica tops even the most seasoned traveler’s bucket list. It is a place unlike anything else you’ve ever seen. This is a land of extremes, where extreme cruising and extreme luxury are enjoyed in concert: ice floes carrying penguins and towering icebergs float by as you soak in the spa tub sipping champagne. With a surge in the number of explorer yachts being built, voyages to remote destinations are becoming increasingly popular. Antarctica could not be any more remote, and this isolation is part of the reason why this destination is so alluring. One of the most incredible ice destinations in the world, there is simply no shortage of amazing spectacles to see here. After a day out in the snow, return to the yacht, where you can warm up in the sauna or spa tub, and be pampered by your doting crew and chef. Antarctica is a place of pure wonder and sweet solitude, where you’ll likely not see another yacht. You can hike ashore or visit research stations. And animal lovers will rejoice! Antarctica affords unparalleled opportunities to see penguin rookeries and enormous seals. You can also have incredible experiences getting up close with killer whales. It’s like a nature documentary brought to life! Antarctica is not a typical cruising ground – but this is what makes it the ideal destination to visit by superyacht.

Icebergs, fjords and polar bears are all to be found in this chilly but beautiful landscape
THE ITINERARY
xploring the wonders of Greenland by charter yacht offers an opportunity to take in this unique landscape from the comfort of a luxury vessel. You will see glaciers, fjords and plentiful wildlife in a week spent in this icy clime. For lovers of nature and wild frontiers, a Greenland yacht charter is a must. And those who enjoy the adventure of heli-skiing can combine a yacht holiday to Greenland with some of the most exciting, virginal skiing you’ll find anywhere in the world. Or hop in a kayak, head ashore to hike or even camp in the snow. Though Greenland, which belongs to Denmark, is the largest island in the world, it is sparsely populated, with only about 50,000 inhabitants. Because 80 percent of the island is covered by an ice cap, its population live mainly by the ice-free coast. A cruise here allows you to interact with these coastal communities, and also learn more about the traditional Inuit culture – 88 percent of Greenlanders are Inuit. You’re all but guaranteed to have sightings of polar bears and whales, especially in the early summer. But this could be a destination for all seasons: heli-skiing in the spring, whalewatching and taking in the midnight sun in the sunny summer (the sun does not set from 25 May to 25 July), or even making a winter cruise in the hope of catching a glimpse of the spectacular Northern Lights, viewed from the deck of your yacht.

Kangerlussuaq: Fly in and meet your yacht at Camp Lloyd in Kangerlussuaq, which was used as a Cold War base for the U.S. Air Force until 1992. Go on an air safari in a small five-seater aeroplane in search of herds of musk oxen that roam freely in the nearby valleys. After that, it’s time to settle in for your first dinner on board.
Disko Bay: Spend the morning exploring Disko Bay in one of the yacht’s RIBs (rigid inflatable boats), looking for humpback whales, walruses and seals. The yacht will then relocate to Ilulissat (which means “icebergs”), to visit the ice fjord that produces 20 million tons of ice a day. Cruise among the blue-streaked bergs that bob around the bay or if the yacht is heli-capable, then take the helicopter for an aerial view of this amazing place.
Day Two Søndre Strømfjord: In the early morning, your yacht will cruise into Søndre Strømfjord – which the Inuits call Kangerlussuaq and which means “the long fjord.” And, at 100 miles, it is long. It cuts a straight path into the interior of Greenland. From the comfort of the yacht’s observation lounge you can watch the diverse topography of heaths, salt lakes and mountain tundra pass by. You could also spot caribou, Arctic foxes and musk oxen.
Day Four Eqip Sermia glacier: Cruise 43nm to the Eqip Sermia glacier. It has a front edge that is nearly three miles wide and deposits icebergs straight into the open ocean. Your explorer yacht will get up close to the glacier tip so that you can fully appreciate the magnitude of this natural spectacle.
Day Five Qeqertarsuaq: The only large town located on the old volcanic island of Disko, its main industries are fishing and seal hunting. Guests can either visit Copenhagen University’s Arctic Station, which studies
Greenland’s flora and fauna, or try dog sledding on the Lyngmark glacier.
Day Six Aasiaat: Awake at the southern boundary of Disko Bay at the town of Aasiaat, which is famous for its small and colorful houses. Head on shore to enjoy the quirky collection of bespoke artworks that are dotted around the town. Day Seven Sisimiut: Spend your last day in Sisimiut. Head ashore to go dog sledding and to check out the local carvings and crafts that the town is famous for. Enjoy a final dinner on board and watch the highlights from your trip in the onboard cinema. The following morning the yacht will return to Camp Lloyd, where you can disembark and depart via private aircraft from Kangerlussuaq Airport. Away from the capital of Palma, the rest of the island is ideal for active adventures, from biking trails and golf courses to wonderful scuba diving sites – not to mention quiet anchorages and perfect beaches. Menorca is small in size but big in beauty. The entire island is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, a mark of its nature and wildlife as well as its sustainable development. You could easily spend a week here traipsing from one beautiful cove to another. A bit further along in the island chain, Ibiza and Formentera are like yin and yang. Ibiza is always ready for a party, while neighboring Formentera – with its hippy chic vibe and waters as clear and pretty as those in The Bahamas – knows how to slow down and enjoy. Ibiza, too, has thrown off some of its pure party rep over recent years – the northern end of the “White Isle” making a name for itself as a wellness hub with plenty of yoga retreats. The Balearics’ 300 days of sunshine per year make it the perfect place to relax or exercise, party or unwind.

hy choose one stunning Med country when you can frolic in two? The sister islands of French Corsica and Italian Sardinia make for a best of both worlds itinerary to explore on your superyacht. Sardinia is a magnet for the superyacht set and sailors alike. At the northeast tip of the island you’ll find the famous Costa Smeralda. Created by the Aga Khan nearly 60 years ago, it’s a mix of colorful fishing villages, beautiful villas, high-class boutiques and fabulous, exclusive restaurants and bars, with Yacht Club Costa Smeralda at its heart. Food lovers wax lyrical about the seafood on Sardinia, claiming that the island’s lobster is the finest in the world. From the capital city of Cagliari in the south, to old coastal towns such as Alghero in the north, there is much to be discovered – the island’s stone tepee-like structures, the “nuraghe,” are among the oldest constructions known to man. North of Sardinia is the French island of Corsica, though it’s much closer to mainland Italy and as such has a unique culture and style. The island is marked by granite mountains, while the southern end has a multitude of little islands and coves. The boulderfilled Maddalena archipelago is one of the best cruising grounds in the Med. Corsica and Sardinia both offer excellent sailing, diving and diversions on shore in historic villages – they are the perfect pair for a charter holiday.

Delight in visiting a different port each day, eating amazing Italian food, drinking exquisite wine, playing in the sea, taking in ancient architecture and simply slowing down and reveling in the relaxed Mediterranean lifestyle. This is a place of Old World glamour and new world appeal, and it’s equally favored by new and experienced charterers alike. The Tuscan Riviera, as it’s sometimes called, is a treat for all the senses. Just consider the oft-photographed, colorful ports of Portofino and Cinque Terre – five picturesque villages connected by walking paths and trains, but best reached by sea. Beyond the gently rolling hills covered in vineyards, perfectly pretty villages and romantic villas, there is another side to Tuscany that is lesser known. The Tuscan seaside begs to be explored, and is best seen by luxury yacht, of course. As you sail from the coast to the Tuscan Isles themselves, you’ll notice the subtle change in the local delicacies you can try, along with the breathtaking scenery. And you can visit Elba, the island where Napoleon was famously banished. History is alive and well here, as you’ll end the cruise in the fabled city of Rome, which is itself an openair museum, with ancient relics and crumbling ruins everywhere you look.

At Porto Venere, the harbor is lined with tall, vibrantly painted 12th-century houses and narrow alleys lead to a castle.
Day T hree La Spezia and Lucca: Before heading for the islands, soak up the color and culture of Tuscany – the birthplace of today’s Italian language. Head ashore to visit the Tuscan hills and the charming village of Lucca – it is the only town in Italy entirely C H A R TE R F LE E T
surrounded by 16th-century ramparts, enclosing antique markets and great dining spots. Overnight, your yacht crosses to Elba, arriving for breakfast.
Day Four Elba to Isola del Giglio: This is the infamous island where Napoleon Bonaparte was exiled in 1814, but with crystal waters and a cliff-fringed coast, it seems like a great place to be stranded. Four miles inland, you’ll come to the Villa San Martino, his summer residence. Elba is now a destination in itself, with some charming restaurants and hotels. Explore a gorgeous bay before departing for Isola del Giglio.
Day Five Giglio to Montecristo: Those yearning to relax on a golden beach will be satisfied with the pristine shores of Isola del Giglio. The town is dominated by a stone watchtower built by the Medicis. Farther west is the small, squat, pyramid-shaped
gray-pink granite island of Montecristo. From here it’s a short hop to Porto Ercole.

THE ITINERARY Day One Palermo: Meet your yacht in Palermo. The private dining room of Cuvée du Jour is the most coveted table and is attended by chef Carmelo Trentacosti and his experimental take on Sicilian fare.
ften we feel so spoiled for choice in the Mediterranean that we forget to venture beyond the lively cruising grounds of the Italian Riviera and Côte d’A zur. But those who are enticed by nature, outdoor adventure and privacy rather than by parties and retail therapy will be amply rewarded with a meander along this stretch of coast on the Italian island of Sicily. With its rugged coastline, mountain trails and secluded grottoes, western Sicily is the gateway to a more remote Mediterranean adventure. While some hard-to-reach spots require a huge effort to reap the precious rewards of serenity, the Aegadian Islands off Sicily’s rugged western coast have been right under our noses all along. There is something mythical and elusive about Sicily. It is steeped in fascinating history, both of the manmade and natural varieties, predating Mafia ties and the Hollywood movie lore. Greek temples and the smouldering Mount Etna – Europe’s largest active volcano, which this year reminded the world she is still kicking – are obvious tourist sites, but there are hidden gems to be found in our itinerary on the western side of Sicily. The islands are surprisingly easy to get to but feel worlds away from other favorite Mediterranean hotspots. Set south in the Med, Sicily’s season is happily stretched. Come as early as April and linger into October, and you’ll still find sunny, warm days.

Day T hree Ustica: Take a northward detour to Ustica, a wild island surrounded by amazing waters. It’s known as the Black Pearl of the Mediterranean and is actually a burned-out underwater volcano, with only four square miles protruding above the surface. It makes for captivating diving – from caves to a site called Cape Gavazzi, the world’s first underwater archaeological museum, where remnants from Roman-era shipwrecks can be seen.

Day Four Mozia: Next, cruise southward and on to the island of Mozia, off the far western side of Sicily. Set in the Stagnone Nature Reserve lagoon between Trapani and Marsala, this little island looks unassuming but its history stretches back more than 2,700 years to when the Phoenicians built a trade outpost and town. Take a small boat in to visit the museum and perhaps be invited to dine with the locals.

he northern stretch of Croatia’s Adriatic coastline is a pick-and-mix of romantic medieval towns, blond beaches and jewel-toned waters, with a constellation of islands to explore. Perhaps best of all it is an easy cruise by charter yacht: the time between destinations rarely exceeds two hours and it is well protected from open seas. For charterers looking for a departure from the tried-and-true Western Mediterranean, the eastern Adriatic coastline has all the appeal of the classic Med destinations, but with a dash of Ottoman history – and a lot less crowds. A bridge between East and West, this area has seen the rise and fall of empires. With its glorious beaches and sublimely charming Old World architecture, the Adriatic has much to engage the senses. The entire coastline of Croatia offers amazing cruising grounds, but there is something special about Northern Croatia. Go from sipping cocktails at relaxed bars in Split to becoming at one with nature at Krka National Park, hiking to waterfalls and exploring secluded bays. Visit ancient Roman amphitheaters and see glorious art from centuries past. Wash it all down with excellent wine and local cuisines. Commune with nature in this special place and then spend the night in Skradin.
Day T hree Kornati Islands: Visit the Kornati archipelago. Nowhere
else in the Mediterranean are there so many islands in such a small area – there are 147 islands, islets and rocks in total in just a 22-mile stretch. Jump in with a snorkel to see thousands of different fish. Relax on board in the evening and spend the night at anchor in a peacefully lonely bay.
Day Four Kornati Islands to Mali Lošinj: Spend the morning swimming among the Kornati islands, then set out for Mali Lošinj, the biggest island town in the Adriatic. Guests can explore its numerous churches, see works of art in the Fritzy Palace and visit the 2,000-year-old bronze statue of Apoxyomenos. For dinner, try the traditional cuisine and wine on shore, then
enjoy a quiet night at anchor in the pretty natural harbor.
Day Five Mali Lošinj to Veli Brijun: Continue the journey via Brioni, a national park with 14 islands. Guests take a train through the island of Veli Brijun. Spend the night in Rovinj.
Day Six Veli Brijun to Pula: The trip ends in Pula, the largest town on the Istrian peninsula. Its 3,000year history has left it rich with antiquities. Ancient ruins, quiet anchorages and hot nightlife – this classic yacht destination has it all
THE ITINERARY
here’s a reason the Greek islands of the Cyclades are a popular summer charter destination year after year. These islands offer up the party hot spot of Mykonos, a favorite among superyacht owners and the jet set, and also the white-washed, iconic and everromantic Santorini. But there is so much more to the Cyclades than these two legendary islands. The smaller islets that dot the island chain each have a unique style and personality and are waiting to be discovered by the curious visitor. And the quality of yachts for charter available here is only getting better. Each day, you’ll go somewhere new – discovering a town of white houses perched high on a hill, or perhaps a port lined with rustic restaurants serving fresh seafood. You’ll see ancient ruins that will amaze with their history and design. You’ll visit gorgeous anchorages you can only get to by boat, with nary another superyacht in sight. The ability to get away from crowds on this route or be among them when you wish is one of the best things about visiting the Cyclades. Though an exceedingly popular summer destination come June and July, Greece is also a great destination to consider slightly outside of the high season – in May or September – before the busy time begins or as it cools down. Whenever you visit, you’re sure to find amazing cuisine, ample solitude and awe-inspiring history.

he Seychelles are what come to mind when you picture paradise. Known for giant boulders framing white sand beaches adorned with palm trees, these cruising grounds have taken a starring role in many a tropical island calendar. Set in the Indian Ocean off East Africa, the Seychelles comprise more than 100 islands, with the outermost lying some 700 miles from the main island of Mahé. With such ample, spread out cruising grounds, there are plenty of places to explore. Itineraries should take the seasons into account. For instance, the route on the opposite page includes Aride Island, which is not ideal to visit during the southeast monsoon as landing on the beach can be a challenge, so it can be substituted by the nearby Cousin Island, which is also a reserve for birds. In the Seychelles, there is a general preference for shorter, inner-island cruising, anchoring in north-facing bays during the windier southeast monsoon season, which lasts from May to September. Longer sevenday plus outer-island cruising and sheltering in south-facing bays is recommended during the calmer northwest monsoon season, from October to April. This seven-day itinerary takes you through the best of Mahé and the inner islands, mixing those emblematic boulder-strewn beaches with excellent diving, rousing nightlife and peaceful anchorages to call your own.

ith its tropical climate, abundance of islands, world-class diving and delicious food, Thailand is growing in popularity as an inviting winter charter destination. Thailand is unique in its culture and scenery, and the friendly Thai people ensure the warmest of welcomes. The country has been catering to high-end tourists for more than a decade, and it is well-equipped with superyacht marinas and beautiful anchorages to welcome the yachting set. Visitors will find attractions like colorful Buddhist temples, elephant sanctuaries and idyllic beaches that have featured in famous movies. There are plenty of action-packed itineraries, with activities ranging from rock climbing to diving, for those who are seeking adventure. Yet there’s also ample time for relaxation and to enjoy some pretty phenomenal views. Most superyacht charters focus on the Andaman Sea and the islands around Phuket – which has a major airport and big marinas, so it is a fitting jumping off point for cruising this region. This itinerary starts here, then takes you all the way south, exploring islands off the beaten path and ending at the Malaysian paradise of Langkawi. With a blend of stunning scenery, spectacular diving, crystal clear water and delicious food, this is a place you won’t soon forget. Thailand is known as the land of smiles, and when you take a yacht charter here you’ll be smiling too.

Day Two Phang Nga Bay: In the morning, your yacht will cruise to Ko Phing Kan – known to James Bond fans as one of the locations for The Man With the Golden Gun. Beautiful limestone karsts frame your view. Stop for lunch at the peaceful island of Koh Yao Noi and dine at the Six Senses Yao Noi. Spend the afternoon cruising the beautiful bay, stopping to board a kayak and explore secret coves and
caves. That night, anchor in a quiet spot and dine al fresco on board your yacht.
Day T hree Railay Beach: Set on a peninsula on Thailand’s west coast, Railay Beach feels more like an island thanks to being surrounded by giant cliffs and verdant jungle. These cliffs entice many rock climbers who enjoy scaling the limestone walls. There are a variety of climbing routes for all abilities, from your active adventurer to ones easy enough for kids and beginners. For those who prefer to play in the water, the crew will launch the water toys. Enjoy a sundowner cocktail on shore at a beach bar, then return to the yacht for dinner.
once hidden pirate bounty. Arrive early, beating the tourist boats, so you can swim into the cave and emerge at its secret beach, enjoying the beautiful spot for yourself.
Day Six Butang: Early in the morning, you’ll make the five-hour cruise to Butang, Thailand’s southernmost group of islands. Sail to the west coast of Ko Adang and anchor close to the corals. Work up an appetite with some fantastic snorkeling before heading ashore for a beach barbecue. Have dinner at On The Rocks restaurant at Serendipity Beach Resort on Koh Lipe.
Day Four Phi Phi Islands: Ko Phi Phi Leh is often ranked as one of the most beautiful islands in the world, along with nearby Ko Phraya Nak and Ko Bida Nok. It is where the Leonardo DiCaprio movie The Beach was filmed. Enjoy
the morning cruise to the Phi Phi islands, and get ready for a day of watersports. With reefs teeming with fish, the diving is amazing here, too. Dine at Zeavola Resort on Ko Phi Phi Don and enjoy the nightlife onshore.
Day Five Ko Muk: Wake up as your yacht is making its way to Ko Muk, home of the fabled Emerald Cave, which is said to have C H A R TE R F LE E T
Day Seven Butang to Langkawi: The Langkawi archipelago consists of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea, only four of which are inhabited. It’s a nature lover’s dream, with white sand beaches, vibrant coral reefs, lush rainforest and craggy mountain peaks. Enjoy your last day on board, and perhaps extend your trip to spend time exploring Langkawi. You’ll be sure to leave with a wide smile plastered on your face! 67
Untouched cruising grounds, epic dive sites and hardly another yacht to be seen
THE ITINERARY Day One Sorong, West Papua: Arrive in Sorong, where your yacht and crew will be waiting to welcome you on board. Set sail for the Raja Ampat archipelago. Depending on the winds and the tides, spend the afternoon snorkeling, try a dive with an experienced PADI instructor, or kayak, waterski, fish from the tenders, visit a village or relax on a pristine white sand beach.
or those seeking something entirely different in a luxury cruise, look no further than the islands of Indonesia. The area of Raja Ampat, just northwest of Papua, is a sight to behold. This archipelago offers untouched cruising grounds where you’ll stay in breathtaking anchorages, dive with the most vibrant of underwater life, explore the jungle to spot the elusive Bird of Paradise and hike to the tops of jade green peaks for staggering views. There are regulations in force to keep this place as pristine as it is, so only a handful of yachts are allowed to charter in the area. Chances are you’ll be the only ones in the harbor. Your phinisistyle yacht – the traditional Indonesian design – will have a doting crew to cater to your every need, whether serving up a delicious meal, pampering you with a relaxing Balinese massage or arranging a fun beach barbecue. There are four main islands in the Raja Ampat archipelago: Misool to the south, Salawati and Batanta in the middle, and Waigeo to the north – surrounded by more than 1,500 smaller islets. The whole region is almost entirely untouched by human hands. There are no big hotels, only a few ecodive resorts on the main islands, and the waters are blissfully traffic-free. With a handful of bucket-list dives and some of the clearest waters in the world, you will be pleased to have this paradise to yourself for a truly unforgettable experience.

Day Two Dampier Strait: The strait has strong currents carrying planktonic feasts that attract hundreds of manta rays at certain times of the year in the area near Arborek island. Spend the morning diving down to the shallow sandy bottom and wait for the giant mantas to pass overhead, or swim with these gentle giants at the surface. In the late afternoon, trek through the forest of Sawinggrai village on Pulau Gam, guided by a local, to catch the mating rituals of the elusive and ethereal red bird of paradise. Then dine under a starry sky, while your yacht sails north-west toward the Wayag archipelago.
Day T hree & Four Wayag Archipelago: Cruise by tender or kayak silently through the Wayag lagoon and its magical maze of limestone karst “gumdrop” islands adorned with pitcher plants and wild orchids. Climb Mount Pindito for breathtaking C H A R TE R F LE E T
sunrise views over the island and beyond. Back at sea level, explore the islands by paddleboard, or go for a dive to see the masses of multicolored fish and corals below the surface. The area is so beautiful, it is worth spending at least two days here to make the most of it.
Day Five Fam, Penemu and the Yeben islands: Your yacht will arrive at these smaller, pretty islands. Paddle through the uninhabited islets and turquoise waters surrounding Pulau Fam, stroll on foot or kayak the perfect white sandy circle of tiny Pulau Yeben. Overnight, sail to the southern realms of the Raja Ampat archipelago.
Day Six & Seven Misool and Tomolol Cave: Misool is one of the southern islands and it’s become a mecca for divers worldwide. Dip your paddle into yet another “secret bay” rimmed with
steep rainforest walls and listen to the echoing birdsong at dawn. Tread lightly over turtle tracks on the powdery white beaches of Misool and journey though the ethereal Gua Sacral ancestral caves of Tomolol, the former burial site of the indigenous Papuans. It is a fitting farewell to the archipelago.
Day E ight Return to Sorong: Bid farewell to the crew and your yacht in Sorong, and then fly to Denpasar. You may end your trip here or alternatively opt to extend your trip by visiting Bali. The rest of Indonesia is bound to feel hectic, though, after the glorious solitude of Raja Ampat. 69
Get ready for soul-stirring cruising experiences in the land Down Under
THE ITINERARY
ruising the Whitsundays and the Great Barrier Reef offers endless itinerary possibilities. Set along the southern realm of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park in Queensland, Australia, the colorful Whitsundays are a magnet for snorkelers and divers. These islands offer up abundant marine life in gorgeous turquoise waters, exceptional coral creations and unique landscapes. In 2017, the Australian government opened up access to an additional 21 pristine anchorages in the Whitsunday islands for superyachts of more than 115 feet (35 meters) in length. These anchorages now offer charter yachts the accessibility to create an even richer, more varied and interesting itinerary for guests. But to this day only eight of the Whitsunday islands are inhabited with resorts. With an array of activities offered in unique surroundings, the area boasts some of the best cruising experiences in the world. Direct commercial and private flights allow guests to be immersed in the contrasting white and turquoise color palette even before boarding their superyacht, and a great way to experience what the Whitsundays have to offer is by helicopter. This bird’seye view gives guests an amazing perspective and view of the anchorages that will be available to them, and depending on the yacht’s capabilities, it might also be the perfect way to arrive on board.

Day One
Day T hree
Abell Point Marina to Hook Island: Fly into the Whitsunday Coast Airport and enjoy a private helicopter service taking you directly to Abell Point Marina, where your yacht awaits. It’s a short 2.5-hour cruise across the Whitsunday Passage to your first night’s destination at Macona on Hook Island, which combines forest walks, pure blue waters and white silica beaches. View Aboriginal rock art at Nara Inlet, created by the Ngaro people. Enjoy dinner on board your yacht tonight.
Hayman Island: The iconic Hayman Island Resort is worth a visit. Relax by the infinity pool with a cocktail, book a treatment at the award-winning day spa or sample a private lunch on the beach with cuisine.
Day Two Hook Island: Have breakfast al fresco before donning swimsuits and flippers. Check out Luncheon Bay – this exceptional site has shallow snorkeling close to shore as well as a colorful reef best explored by diving, with some epic formations, such as an underwater canyon known as the “tunnel of love.” Spend the rest of the day unwinding. At night, the crew might throw a themed dinner to entertain the younger members of your party and adults alike.
C H A R TE R F LE E T
Day Four Hayman Island to the Great Barrier Reef: For an early morning stop-off before you leave this pretty spot, tender in to Blue Pearl Bay, snorkel the fringing reef accessible from the beach or stroll between the trees. During the wet season you can discover the natural waterfalls that flow down the hillside. Between June and October, keep a watchful eye on the horizon as the annual humpback whale migration is in full swing and you may be lucky enough to spot a mother and calf frolicking in the turquoise waters. This afternoon, you’ll make your way towards the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
Day Five Great Barrier Reef Marine Park: Wake up to the sound of silence as you enjoy the serenity of the outer reef anchorages. Dive the famous Stepping Stones, which are unique in that you will find 18 or more flat-topped coral pinnacles lined up in a row along the southwest face of the reef. Living among this structure is abundant fish life, and there are many deep canyons and crevices to explore. Little
of the reef system from the air. Hardy Reef is home to the Whitsundays icon “Heart Reef” – best seen from the sky. At certain tides the natural “waterfall” can be experienced when the water is emptying from the reef – it is a truly amazing sight.
Day E ight Fairey Inlet is a great spot for snorkeling and diving with brightly colored angelfish and coral trout. Later, relax on the aft deck and take in the night sky as the Milky Way is clearly visible most evenings.
Day Six & Seven Hardy Reef: Diving fanatics should head to Hardy Reef. But if diving is not your thing, helicopter charters can be arranged from the pontoon there, offering an incredible perspective on the complexity
Hamilton Island: Round off your trip with a visit to Hamilton Island. With direct access to the Dent Island golf course, enjoy 18 holes or a long lunch at the clubhouse. In the evening, anchor up in Hamilton Island Marina and have a sumptuous dinner at the Hamilton Island Yacht Club, or relax over sunset cocktails at the famous One Tree Hill, taking in its 360-degree views of the Whitsundays. For those who enjoy hiking, wake up early and climb to the highest part of the island – Passage Peak – as the sun rises over another perfect day, before saying goodbye to these soul-stirring islands. 71
Discover the breathtaking beauty of this Southern Hemisphere playground
THE ITINERARY Day One Auckland to Waiheke Island: Your luxury charter yacht awaits in Auckland – also known as the City of Sails. Soak up the city’s history and catch a live performance by Maori dancers at Auckland Museum. Cast off for the Hauraki Gulf, stopping at nearby Waiheke Island, famous for its wineries.
o many, New Zealand is as synonymous with yachting as it is with good wine and spectacular scenery. The small island nation is surrounded by water, so it’s no surprise that sailing is a national pastime here. And the sailors’ mecca of Auckland has hosted the America’s Cup twice – and will do again in 2021. New Zealand might have a small population – it has fewer than five million inhabitants – but there is lots of big, breathtaking scenery. It’s a haven for those seeking peace, rejuvenation and relaxation, as well as thrills and outdoor adventure. South Island has cloud-piercing, snow-capped mountains that plunge dramatically into the sea. It seems almost primeval, offering countless views of pristine coast and water. North Island is characterized by windswept bays and gulfs sprinkled with volcanic islands called motus. It also boasts the cosmopolitan pleasures of the nation’s principal city, Auckland. First settled by the Maoris, who arrived in their long canoes, this city has grown to be an international business center as well as a must-see tourist destination blessed by a dramatic waterfront setting and a kindly temperate climate. There are several popular cruising grounds in New Zealand, but for a winning combination of stunning scenery, adventure and a dash of fine living on shore, there’s no better place than Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf off the northeast coast of the North Island.

Day Two Waiheke Island: The Rangitoto volcano dominates the skyline here. Go for a climb and picnic on its flower-strewn slopes,
then spend the afternoon wine tasting at one of Waiheke Island’s more than two dozen wineries. Then you can dine on fresh shellfish at Vino Vino.
Day T hree Tryphena, Great Barrier Island: Great Barrier is the largest island in the Hauraki Gulf. Pull into Tryphena, the most populated settlement, and spend the day on wide Medlands beach or soak in Kaitoke Hot Springs. The bays are perfect for kayaking. That evening, be grateful for your yacht’s plentiful power, as the island still has no electricity.
dinner at The Beach House restaurant on Kawau Island before retiring to the yacht.
Day Six
Day Four Harataonga Bay, Great Barrier Island: Set on the far eastern side of Great Barrier Island, Harataonga Bay is a bit of a mission for smaller boats to get to, but a big boat can do it easily. Thankfully, this means that not many people go there, and this isolation is part of the
appeal. There’s a beautiful 1,300ft-plus beach – and when the weather is right, it is simply magical. Enjoy dinner on deck in this isolated wonderland.
Day Five Kawau Island: Circling back around the Hauraki Gulf will bring you to Kawau Island. Here you can tour Mansion House, the handsome Victorian home of the 19th-century New Zealand governor, Sir George Grey, while keeping an eye out for the wallabies and peacocks that live in the gardens. Enjoy C H A R TE R F LE E T
Whangaparaoa: See orcas, dolphins and whales off Whangaparaoa. The northwestern arm of Whangaparaoa harbor is a good holding anchorage with serene water. You can take a kayak up into the mangroves and go up streams, or do bushwalks. Three hours north is Kauri Cliffs, rated one of the world’s top 100 golf courses, so after exploring you can try a round of golf, then soak in the hot tub on your yacht as dusk falls.
Day Seven Auckland: Sail back to Auckland and spend the morning browsing the shops in the charming Devonport neighborhood. Enjoy a final brunch on board your yacht before saying a fond farewell to these beautiful and 73
Palm-fringed beaches and anchorages all to yourself – this is South Pacific heaven
THE ITINERARY Day One Port Denarau to Nuku-i-Mana Sand Cay: Meet your yacht at Port Denarau Marina, only 20 minutes from Nadi International Airport. Perhaps take some time to explore the Denarau area – the marina is adjacent to an internationally acclaimed golf course, restaurants and a shopping center. Then you’ll cruise a short ways to Nuku-iMana Sand Cay. This is a great first opportunity to swim and relax in the clear warm tropical waters of Fiji, and you’ll dine on board under the stars.
iji is a place of pure South Pacific fantasy and this itinerary in particular takes you through islands with deserted beaches and healthy coral reefs filled with colorful, tropical fish. A week exploring such sights in the islands of Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands will bring the Fijian fantasy to life. Divers and snorkelers will be especially thrilled, but even those who stay above the surface will be bowled over by the sheer beauty of these lush, green islands kissed by turquoise blue seas and trimmed with the whitest of sandy beaches. There are very good reasons why Fiji is romanticized for its epic beauty and natural wonders. From volcanic hot springs and untouched coral reefs to cascading waterfalls and mud baths, nature here is truly wondrous. There are also plenty of active pursuits to entice you beyond scuba diving, including catching famous surf breaks and hiking to stunning viewpoints. In terms of cultural and culinary offerings, Fiji has a lot to offer as well. Watch the traditional dances of local tribes or dine ashore at exclusive resorts. But best of all for those who prefer peace and quiet, there are many uninhabited islands where you can drop the hook and enjoy the place all to yourself. A true tropical paradise of 333 islands in total, with thriving marine life and secluded beaches backed by pristine jungle, Fiji is an idyllic place to cruise on your charter yacht.

Day Two Monuriki Island: If Monuriki looks familiar, it might be because it’s where Tom Hanks was marooned in Castaway. It has epic isolated and private beaches. You can enjoy snorkeling the reefs on the western end or hike up to the clifftop for staggering views – on the way you can see the island’s endemic lizards. Then head to Tokoriki Island Resort for time in the spa and a fine dining experience for dinner.
Day T hree Navadra: This uninhabited island is the pearl of the Mamanucas and a great place to enjoy some serenity. The island is split into two with a beautiful reef and sandbar linking them. Explore the beaches and snorkel in the crystal clear water. That evening, enjoy drinks and a C H A R TE R F LE E T
barbecue on shore, pretending you have discovered your own heavenly desert island.
Day Four Naviti Island: May to October is manta ray season, when the graceful creatures can be seen on the island’s southern end at one of their favored feeding grounds. Snorkel or dive with these huge, docile creatures, or take a hike ashore through the forest and along the coastlines. The village of Somosomo in the north of Naviti can offer a traditional meke (traditional dance) and lovo (underground oven) feast.
Yasawa-I-Rara Bay. This is one of the most beautiful beaches in Fiji, with six miles of pristine sand and lush green headlands. There is some great snorkeling and diving off the northern tip of Yasawa Island. The boutique Yasawa Island Resort makes for a great dinner experience.
Day Five
Day Seven
Blue Lagoon to Sawa-I-Lau island: Blue Lagoon is the iconic location where the Brooke Shields movie was filmed. From here, cruise to Sawa-I-Lau, where you can swim through the island’s huge chandelier cave formations. Take a guide to show where to duck-dive into another huge hidden cavern.
Waya Island: Travel up the western side of this dramatic, mountainous island and anchor off the pristine, uninhabited beach at Nacilau Point – it’s an ideal spot for a beach picnic. A comfortable anchorage can also be found in Nalauwaki Bay. Present your kava to the village chief in the traditional sevusevu ceremony at Nalauwaki village. There is also a very nice hike from Nalauwaki Bay up to the highest peak on Waya Island.
Day Six Yasawa Island: Cruise to the top of Yasawa and anchor in
Day E ight Vomo Island Resort: Stop off at the spectacular private islands of Vomo on the way back. Dine ashore and maybe visit the hip spa. It’s a great last stop at the end of your trip before you cruise back to Port Denarau Marina and head home. 75
