The Osa Peninsula
Golfo Dulce FIRST ANCHORAGE As one of just four tropical fjords on the planet,
Golfo Dulce is the only place in the world where both northern and southern humpback whales breed.
This isolated inlet is a vision of little bays, ideal for adventure and wildlife-spotting.
WATERFALL RAPPEL, TREE CLIMB & HORSE RIDE
In short, this is an epic full day that’s as adventurous
as you like, suitable for the whole family and children as young as eight. Saddling up on the beach, follow virtually untouched rivers through the rainforest
to arrive at a great, 30m-high waterfall. Here,
you’ll abseil down its crashing torrents to enjoy a
refreshing dip in a blue-green swimming hole. Then, riding a secret passageway to a natural clearing
of 60m-high ficus trees, climb up inside them to
spectacular views over the forest and to the ocean
beyond. Finish with a meadow gallop back to the beach and your ship.
MANGROVE KAYAKING
Paddling along a remote maze of canals that
intertwine through a dense mangrove forest, you’ll be able to admire thousands of species of fish, drawn by the meeting of clear and salt water.
That’s alongside the likes of reptiles, monkeys and a diverse selection of bird life. It’s a clear learning
opportunity, whether the kids are taking the oar or enjoying the ride.

BIOLUMINESCENCE PHENOMENON
In a truly unique night-time wonder, micro-
organisms in the Golfo Dulce produce a chemical
reaction to emit natural light, glowing when
activated by motion – like underwater fireflies. With
half your body floating in the warm ocean waters,
look down to see a shower of shooting stars, joined
by the phosphorescent traces of schools of fish, sparkling as a glowing cloud.
SHARK TAGGING
Alongside marine biologists and conservationists,
head out to tag hammerhead sharks, gathering
crucial information on their behavior . After trying your hand at tagging, let the children witness
these majestic creatures up close and take their measurements.
They can even ‘adopt’ and name one to receive
reports of its travels and growth over its lifetime.
That’s alongside sightings of everything from
humpback whales and green sea turtles to spotted
and bottle nose dolphins, many of which you can engage with unique research.

JOIN RESEARCHERS AT OSA CONSERVATION
Enjoy exclusive access to this science-driven
conservation program, which integrates technology, community engagement and reef-to-ridge initiative
to preserve the terrestrial and marine diversity of the Osa Peninsula. It’s the opportunity for the entire
family to learn first hand from some of the world’s
leading conservationists.
Spider monkey trap cam – Use remote, motionsensing camera traps and automated acoustic
devices to gather vital information on both primate behavior and any illegal activities. As the very first arboreal camera traps used to investigate spider
monkey sleeping sites and latrines, it’s the chance to be part of a world-leading scientific team, perhaps scaling trees to lend a hand with the setup.
Turtle conservancy – Join the very conservationists
charged with preserving the local sea turtle
population, snorkelling and diving with green,
leatherback and olive ridley species off islands and
reefs. Costa Rica is one of the few places these majestic species are found close to land.
Poison frog quest – In the company of leading
researchers, head out into the unspoiled rainforest to search for the impossibly colorful phyllobates
vittatus – the Golfo-Dulcean dart frog.

Caño Island SECOND ANCHORAGE This underworld oasis of caves, cliffs and reefs is widely regarded as one of the best diving spots
the world over. And, after spotting everything from turtles and whales to mega pods of dolphins,
discover the remnants of the island’s ancient Diquis
tribe, hidden among a culturally rich, jungled interior.
SPINNER DOLPHIN MEGA POD
Congregating in giant, thousand-strong pods,
spinner dolphins love to jump, flip and twist out of the water. After all, they’re named after their
predilection of spinning multiple times in one jump.
You’ll cruise out to meet them, before jumping in and swimming right alongside them.
CAÑO ISLAND DIVING EXPLORATION |
Diving in the island’s biological reserve, get up close
to dolphins, whales, manta rays and large sea turtles
among dramatic the underwater scenery. Think cave networks and technicolor reefs. Whether experts or
its your child’s first time snorkelling, your experience
will be fully tailored to your exact requirements. SUBMERSIBLE DIVING
For a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience, charter a
submersible down to otherwise-inaccessible depths in absolute comfort, potentially making world-first discoveries along the way. With a 360° view, there appears to be no barrier between you and the
underwater world outside, home to unknown deepsea marine life.
Indeed, your dive will help contribute vital
information and data needed to preserve and
protect marine life species. It’s an ideal way to introduce both non-divers and children to the underwater world.
