Welcome to our Spring/Summer season. Pulling our creative programming together into a vibrant, exciting brochure is one of the most enjoyable parts of the job. It gives us a chance to see how far we have come and celebrate the dramatic change in our cultural offer over the last two years. We are particularly proud of our comedy programme, which is full of top-name comedians, and urge you not to miss Alex Horne on 25 June. He may not be a household name yet, but his show is pure genius! This season, you are spoilt for choice for great nights out and I am pleased to say we have something for everyone. Recommendations are difficult with so much fabulous content on offer, but don’t miss Broken by Motionhouse, it will take your breath away. We also have the brilliant stage adaptation of Peter James’ Dead Simple, and our top pick for kids has to be our cover star, Dr Bunhead. He will blow your socks off. Literally! Amanda O’Reilly General Manager and Programmer

Commit to Culture will be a strong, dynamic cultural partnership for Adur & Worthing, encouraging excellent and inclusive cultural activities, bringing together the energy, creativity and resources of individuals, organisations and businesses involved in delivering, or supporting cultural activity.

BLACKEYED THEATRE

Mayor Anton Antonovich is having a crisis - the streets haven’t been swept for months, there are chickens in the courthouse, he has been somewhat liberal with the mayoral accounts and a government official is on his way.

John Godber’s classic comedy about life at a modern comprehensive introduces an array of terrifying teachers and hopeless pupils, brought to life through the unique eyes of Salty, Gail and Hobby; three Year 11 students about to leave school for good. Presented by Blackeyed Theatre in association with South Hill Park, this high-energy comedy is a modern classic with something vital to say about education for the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’.

BLUES QUINTET

The British Blues Award’s Female Vocalist of the Year, Jo is an original singer-songwriter and bandleader whose work is broadly influenced by blues, gospel, soul, country, rock and other ‘roots’ sensibilities.

Following their debut album And Still I Rise, the Grammy Award nominees perform an inspiring testament to the enduring power, possibilities and boundless beauty of African-American music.

Her debut album received critical acclaim and made various ‘best of’ lists internationally and she has recently released Live At The Royal Albert Hall, recorded by the BBC. In this concert, Jo and her band perform songs from both albums plus her own take on classic and personal favourites.

Combining the grit of low-down country and urban blues with the bold brass of New Orleans, the hand-clapping fervour of gospel and fiery jazz-infused horn arrangements, journey across the Middle Passage, down Highway 49 from Clarksdale to New Orleans, from chain gangs and juke joints to orchestra pits, church pews and even back porches.
