How many operators will
we need NEXT YEAR? Thi ~ is bu t one of the many questions telephone men arc called upon to answer. Part of their work bas always been to antJcfpate demands for personnel . . . to delem1ino what additional equipment must be provided, what new co~lntction will be necessary to handle th eon· stantly incr<'asing demands for service. Careful planning in every phase of telephone work requjrcs the services of many qua.U6ed men. For them, this growing business offers the opportunity for active, interesting careers. During tht' war yc:trs, Clne or the old Tech Lrndit inns was droppt-d. That was nnzin~. Hut nnw things arc prelty well back lO nurmnl, and there hns been n great clenl of talk concerning tlw revival or this pruclkc>. Su we asked .snme Tech stu· dcnls what lhey thl\uAht of the idea, and 1he rolh>wing urc some of the answers. Dick Connell is highly in favor or the ideu . H e said : " Definitely, Freshman ha?.inl( should be revived. The :L\Iemge uge or the F'rcshmn.n class is !(thing younger ; the men fresh out or hiS(h school nol only need hn.zinl(, but expect it. Ruing unites Lbc dass .._, nothing else will, and provides a qukk introduction to the upperclnssmen. Caps are a mark or irientilication. Making lhe greeting of everyone with n 'hello' familiarize!! the freshman with the up(ler classes. Tech Bible.'! should be carried at all time.!>, and the fresh· men should l>e held respoMible for Tech cheers and sonJ(s; the reason for this is obvious from the response al athletic games." r~d George is also in favor of the plan. He said : "Now that the entering freshmen cla."Ses are returning to lhe usual high !K:hool Jlraduates, J think that hazing should be revived. Just what type of hazing, should l>e judged by the Tech Council, but, one thing sure, the class officiating should not do so with 'bloodthirsty' revenge. Razing is lo lry to belittle the freshman to test him for his !!pnrtsmanship, not bodily resistance,
su I hnpe 1hi~; is remembered anti upheld if hating is brought back to uur campus. Hazing should be FUN rnr huth classes involved." Aruold Agulnlck gave the follow· in)l answer: "Since [ am not 11 fresh· nmn , I am strongly in favor of it. I luzinl( is1 in my opinion, one o£ the lwst methods of fostering a strong .schunl spirit, a quality which is al~ ways de.>~irable. However [ would imp~ one limitation upon this propnsetl freshman hazing. I do not be· llc>vc il would be desirable to impose undue hardships upon the already !Jcwiltlered freshman." Hnb Wolff answered: " No college, one of this type, should beconw only a place of study, devoid or !ipirit ur mild rivalry between cltt.\'IC'I. With this In mind, T think hating shc>uld be reinstated. The type <,hould be hu.rmless, similar to thnl uf pre-war days, i.e. nol allow· ing Freshmen to use the Earle Bridge, und the wearing or ' beanies' until urter the rope pull (or longer, c;hCluld they lose). ln addition, pun· i11hmenl could l>e a one hour night watch ttl the Skull Tomb."
e.~pecially
There was one dissenting opinion: " I feel thnt freshman hazing should not he revived. Worcester Tech has lou much work for freshmen M it is without giving them this sort of thing. I I T~ch bad a 'gala' social pmJ!ram, lhen O.K., it would be gel()(). But as we all know, the school Itself offers nothing, so why add In~ suit to injury?"

The S. \\. A. held its last meeling in tlw Common's Room on Feb. 9th. There wa!\ o good turnout Jespite the weather. The meeting was a bit more lively thun usual 'l'hc question arose as to whether we should continue to be n member of the WorrcstcT" Wnma.n's Fnrum l!ince that organization is now rcquirin~ pnyment of dues. After an hour, in which three motions to a vf~te were dismisst'd, it was decided that we would continue membership and would send delegates to the Annual Forum. The members had quite n time deciding whether we were to be a. social club entirely, or to be lntellectunl as well. No result was obtained on that score.
