MAKE THE ROAD NEW YORK WORKFORCE JOB DEVELOPER Current Opening: The Job Developer will work with MRNY’s Workforce Development team of committed colleagues who lead a variety of projects including; projects for workers’ rights and occupational health and safety; the incubation of worker cooperatives; industry specific training for community health work and green jobs. The program involves community members in gaining new employment, access to living-wage jobs, and other trainings to increase economic possibilities during the economic crisis. The jobs placement component of the program is performance-based, and its success is measured by meeting placements, good wages and retention goals. Make the Road NY’s Workforce program seeks a Job Developer to provide assistance in creating innovative approaches to job placement, job training and job creation that will benefit low-income immigrants in Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. The ideal candidate must demonstrate a commitment to social justice and understand the linkage between low-income immigrants and the need for good dignifying jobs. The JobDeveloper is responsible for: Aggressively matching and marketing workers with limited English proficiency and other community residents of the neighborhoods served by MRNY; Establishing and maintaining relationships with employers Securing job orders Matching the skills of participants with the proper job openings Making referrals and conducting follow-up with both job seekers and employers Making between 10-13 placements per month and regularly managing a regular caseload of workforce participants Helping to coordinate job development efforts Assisting with grant management and reporting Working collaboratively with members of the Community Workforce team. Evaluating and developing projects that position the program for growth and providing supervision to staff or volunteers
The successful candidate must have at least two years of experience placing low-income and/or Spanish speaking residents in unsubsidized jobs; have experience working with non-English speakers; have a Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent experience; strong interpersonal, outreach, and communication skills; and be open to working some evenings and weekends. Additional Qualifications: Must be bilingual in English and Spanish Must have commitment to social justice and interest in building a grassroots movement. Two years of successful experience as Job Developer or similar position preferred Current well maintained Job Bank or current list of potential employers preferred
Strong interpersonal skills and oral/written communication skills Experience developing projects and supervising staff or volunteers Experience in data and grant management and reporting Strong command of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher Must work well under pressure and be willing to work some evenings and weekends. Must be willing to travel and work from our offices in Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island
Compensation and Benefits: Salary will be between 45 and 60k, depending on relevant work experience and education. MRNY offers a generous benefit package including health insurance and 401K.
