Phipps Neighborhoods Center at Fulton Avenue | 1409 Fulton Ave | Bronx, NY 10456 Title: Employment Specialist, Full-Time Reports to: Program Director Location: Bronx, NY Phipps Neighborhoods: Phipps Neighborhoods is a 41-year-old multi-service nonprofit providing a comprehensive network of educational and work-readiness programs, as well as critical community resources to more than 10,000 children, teens and adults each year in targeted communities across the Bronx and Manhattan. These programs include: Head Start, after-school, summer camp, literacy and ESOL, pre-GED, college prep, work readiness, resident supports, family programs and more. Phipps Neighborhoods works towards a New York City in which no one is caught in the cycle of poverty. We provide children, youth and families in low-income neighborhoods the opportunity they need to thrive through comprehensive education and career programs, and access to community services. Program Description: We serve youth ages 16-24 in the Bronx and the New York City Area. We provide education services which includes; HSE [formerly known as GED] College, Vocational Training. We provide employment services which includes; Internships, Job placement and “Life Skills development". Our Programs are: The New York City Justice Corps and Building Trades. This program offers a multi-faceted approach to community reintegration. Participants receive comprehensive case management services, job readiness training, educational advisement, experience on a community benefit service project, and internship experience. Upon graduation from the program, participant will be placed in a permanent employment position, or an educational or vocational training program. Position Summary: The Employment Specialist will work within a team environment to serve young adults ages 1624. S/he will be primarily responsible for building a job placement bank and internship pool appropriate for our participants. Additional responsibilities include facilitating work readiness workshop with the participants. Duties and Responsibilities: Contact employers by mail, phone, email and in-person to solicit information concerning appropriate job openings and internship opportunities, and maintain and share a database of contacts.
Attend job and career fairs and maintain relationship with workforce centers to find matching job opportunities for participants.
Work with career case counselor to facilitate placement readiness of participants.
Assist with the facilitation of workshops on themes related to job readiness.

S/he must have at least two years’ experience in internship and job placement
Experience working with young adults and disconnected populations is highly desired.
S/he should be highly driven and motivated, a creative team player, and possess excellent written and communication skills.
Specifically candidates must: Have significant experience working with 16-24.
Have demonstrated the ability to prioritize and execute assignments with minimal supervision and under tight time constraints.
Possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
