Art & Communications NEW! Comedy Writing for the Web In Comedy Writing for the Web, students will learn how to craft original comedic copy—from short stories to essays to scripts for video sketches—and publish their content on the Internet through platforms like WordPress, Tumblr, and YouTube. Together, with the help of the instructor and their classmates, they’ll navigate through three stages of composing a humorous piece: from concept ideation to transcript production to web publishing. NEW! Digital Art and Design Express your creative side using the computer as an art-making and graphic design tool. Students will learn how to develop visual ideas with the help of computer software. Drawing Anatomy In this class, students will create compelling portfolio drawings of anatomically precise details such as arms, hands, and heads. Bone and muscle structure will be explored through the use of anatomical software presentations and guided drawings as well as direct observation. Radio Disc Jockey (DJ) and Broadcasting This course will immerse students in the fundamentals of being a radio DJ and broadcaster. From planning a radio show, to producing programming content and selecting music, this course will train students how to record, edit, and broadcast their creative radio ideas. The class will train in the award-winning WPSC 88.7 FM radio station, named Best College Radio Station in the Nation by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System. Business NEW! Investing for Beginners (Grades 8 - 12) This program provides a fun and interactive opportunity for students to learn the basics of investment from an industry expert. Through classroom participation and hands-on exercises, students will explore the basics of investment, including risk tolerance, time horizons, and the tried and true benefits to compounding interest. They will also experience the excitement and challenges of working in a real trading room environment at the University’s Cotsakos College of Business, while studying different asset classes, portfolio construction and simulated trading sessions. Music 5th Annual Audio Recording Camp Learn about the art and practice of recording from industry professionals. Electronic Music Production Learn the tools to develop, record, and produce a song from a top studio owner and session musician. Students will learn to develop a song through the use of manipulating loops, programming drums, layering electronic instruments, and learning the fundamentals of recording. By the end of the course, students will have created five different projects that can help to build one’s own recording portfolio, while advanced students can select to remix tracks that they have previously recorded. Students will learn the elements of a trial from how to prepare a case to courtroom procedure, gaining an understanding of the rules of evidence, direct and leading questions, legal issues, standard of proof, objections, witness credibility and judicial rulings. Programs Offered July 2 - 6, 2018 4H Junior Chef Challenge (Grades 7 and 8) Inspired by the popular cooking show “Chopped,” participants are challenged to make three separate meals using mystery ingredients and a stocked pantry. This program teaches students how to think about different flavors and how they work together. It challenges their creativity and nourishes a passion for the culinary arts. NEW! Chromatic Art Craze (Middle School) Students will focus on color theory to create works of art. Every student will learn how to use primary colors to create the color wheel. Then each will paint two landscapes — one in warm colors, the other in cool colors — to compare the contrasting feelings created by color choices. Students will create a monochromatic self portrait using tints and shades of one color. Students will also have the opportunity to use complementary colors to create optical illusions. Students will work as cast and crew teams in to learn basic levels of acting, directing, and voice-over, operating the camera, and working on green screen. Scriptwriting, storyboarding and improvisation will also be introduced. Stop Motion Animation (Grades 4-6)

JAVA Programming An entry-level class in programming, this course includes an overview of data structures, inheritance, duplication, branching and techniques using JAVA. The class helps beginners gain a basic understanding of JAVA programming, applications and objectoriented programming. Students learn how to write programs in JAVA. Model Making Using a 3D Printer (Grades 7-11) Learn to design and create spaceships and super hero figurines to candles and soaps using a 3D printer. This is a beginner’s class where students will learn to design, model and handcraft their very own designer objects using CAD software, and then transform them into 3D printed models. Robotics Do you think you have what it takes to build a robot? Can your robot win the Sumo Tournament? Radio Disc Jockey (DJ) and Broadcasting (Grades 7-12) NEW! Intro to Plumbing & Pipefitting (Grades 8-12) Students attending this program will be exposed to the trade of plumbing/pipefitting. Students will travel back in time and learn the history of plumbing in and around the New York metropolitan area, a place where the first health codes were adopted. Throughout history, a plumber has played an important role in our nation by protecting and keeping citizen healthy and clean. Middle School Academic Tools In this course, students will have the opportunity to practice organizational skills and study techniques while learning different strategies to achieve academic success in all of their classes. This course will immerse students in the fundamentals of being a radio DJ and broadcaster. From planning a radio show, to producing programming content and selecting music, this course will train students how to record, edit, and broadcast their creative radio ideas. The class will train in the award-winning WPSC 88.7 FM radio station, named Best College Radio Station in the Nation by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System. Web Design The workshop is designed to provide the beginning skills for designing a website. We will cover aspects including planning, managing files, images, color schemes, navigation and more. Full Day Summer Life on Campus for Students in Grades 4-9 June 25 – August 10 Recreation, academic classes and weekly field trips are included. We now offer Summer Life on Campus for Grades 4-9. A typical week includes:

William Paterson Universityâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Pre-College Youth Program offers Academic Academies for high school students to foster a deeper knowledge of college-level material in specific areas of academic focus. Students will examine career possibilities and achieve a new perspective on their academic abilities and potential. The Academies are two weeks of intense summer immersion in a specific subject area for students who have completed their freshman year of high school. Faculty and college students will interact with high school students to explore the Universityâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s resources, broaden their educational experience, and sharpen their academic skills.
