FAQs:

A student organization of the University of Kentucky, WRFL is a non-profit radio station that first hit the airwaves in 1988. WRFL is dedicated to educating students and community members on the best new, unheard-of & underappreciated music across the decades up to the very latest releases. Our 80+ volunteer DJs are committed to serving the UK and Central Kentucky community by providing an alternative to commercial radio 24/7/365 through our quality programming and low-cost or free concerts and music festivals. Located in the Student Center, WRFL is the place for you if you’re interested in music, concerts, or alternative culture.

What kind of music do you play? All genres (seriously) besides what you hear on commercial radio.

Do I get paid to DJ? Nope. DJ’s are all volunteer, but we do have paid student positions available.

How can I get involved? Come down to the station and fill out an application, ask the on-air DJ where to find them (usually in front of our mailboxes or outside the on-air room door.) Or you can email contact@wrfl. fm.

Do I have to be a DJ to be involved? No! We have lots of ways you can volunteer- from helping with our Music Library to fliering for upcoming shows. Just email contact@wrfl.fm for more information on how to pitch in!

Do I have to be a Journalism or Telecommunications major to participate? No, but it’s a great place to get some experience if if you want to develop skills in these fields.

Do I have to have any prior experience? No experience necessary, we will train you in-house on all the equipment you’ll need to know.
