Graphic Score Task As part of the Aboriginal component of your course this assignment will help you understand the Concepts of Music while listening to a piece entitled Wirrkul Girl.
What is a Graphic Score? A graphic score is a way of drawing sounds without having to use traditional notation such as crotchets (quarter notes), treble clefs etc. The Task In pairs, and using the symbols provided, graphically notate the introduction, verse and chorus of Yothu Yindi’s Wirrkul Girl. Then provide a key for each symbol used in the graphic score • The Keynote template provided has the audio and structure already marked out • You can view an example video on the Year 7 Music Wiki website Getting Started 1. Download the Keynote Template > 2. Make a new folder called “Year .... Graphic Score Task” on your >Desktop 3. Your teacher will pass around a thumb-drive with a folder of Symbols to drag into the folder on your >Desktop 4. Click on the keynote file and add the names of each person in your group (e.g.: Year 7 Graphic Score Task - John & Abby) 5. Open the Keynote file and press the Play button in Keynote to listen to the song (You will notice there are 3 sections introduction >verse >chorus) 6. Drag & Drop symbols from the >symbols folder onto the key slide into your project and name them after the instruments or sounds you hear (e.g.: guitar = snake, or voice = kangaroo tracks) 7. Watch the example video again, and in your group plan how you will show pitch, rhythm, texture, structure, tone-colour etc with your images • Presentation: Once the slides are finished, animated and the timings rehearsed the keynote can be recorded into a movie file to submit. • Due Date ..........................................
