About Writer’s Ezine: When Alfred Hitchcock said “Ideas come from everything” little did he know that everything would mean literally everything in this world. Taking inspiration from him, two fellow bloggers and friends – Namrata and Arti debated one day the exact meaning of Freedom of Expression and its rightful usage is today’s times. And so was born Writer’s Ezine, a monthly literary online magazine (E-zine) with the intention of providing platform to emerging as well as established writers from around the world. Born out of a need and a necessity of solely being able to express all that one feels, thinks

Let There Be Light by now have gone cold with fear and hurt. Often in life whenever we are faced with adverse situations our instant humane reaction is to shut ourselves completely from the outside world. What we conveniently forget is that amidst the chaos that the outside world screams of, it also holds the light to rekindle the spirits in our life. We don’t allow hope, love, compassion, faith and affection to warm our insides which
Life has an amazing way of reminding us of this lesson – and that is by the way every day ends into a night and every night ends into a bright and beautiful day. How is that when there is night in our life we tend to forget that there is a day looming nearby to arise and close all doors and windows never to let any light enter our lives? Give life a chance, give hope a

chance and most importantly give yourself another chance. Don’t be so harsh that even life is scared of handing over the reins of your life to you. In this issue of Writer’s Ezine we have Dr. Madhu sharing her life story with us which is a perfect example of this. She didn’t close all the doors and windows, rather she allowed light to come in the form of hope and embraced it so beautifully. Do read her story in Author’s Quill to get motivated enough to find your true calling. Ganga Bharani and Reetwika Banerjee the two authors whose books have been featured in this issue

are unique in their own manner. Both of them are trying to do something that no one has tried and have been successful to quite an extent in their attempts. These lovely women need to be appreciated for their efforts. Month on month whenever WE sees the submissions that come our way , our team feels immense pride just to witness the way so many hearts have been allowing light to enter their lives despite all the darkness that has come their way. Every segment on WE is special and so as the contributors for they stand for hope and it is that hope which keeps all of us alive.

She is God's gift to us, how can He take her away; when she has become the most important part of everybody's lives ...can He really do it??? One week and Netra will turn five. My God! Years fly like butterfly. My little princess is smiling in her dreams. But Amish, the brat who is just six years older to her, can't stop being curious on why is Netra being overpampered by all. Well, Netra or Nettu (as we fondly call her) is the youngest child, perhaps that's the reason for all the pampering she gets, I had presumed; but destiny had another cheerless story hidden in its arms, which unfolded that dark night. "Your younger sister was born with a hole in her heart," disclosed mom to me and Amish... for the first time in five years since she was born.

…Hole in her heart the abrupt words and unexpected reply struck me as if a big black stone thrown in the still water. "Don't worry dear, doctor aunty had said it will be fine after she completes her five years of age and tomorrow we are going for her check-up. Things will be fine." Mom's hand was consoling Amish's forehead. My God! Something never thought, only heard of. Something so dreadful to be witnessed so...so close and real to me. Sleep was no longer willing to meet my eyes now. Silent tears soaked themselves in the pillow.

Still, so clearly I can see the first time I held her tender body in my scared hands. It was my first experience, when I was allowed to touch a new born little cherub-like figure. It was my first chance to admire so closely a round face, soft cheeks, red little nose, tiny lips and teeny ears. The innocent eyes opened and closed again and she yawned. The minute movements from her lips, couldn't have gone unnoticed by me, which communicated with me, yes they said actually asked me, 'here I am in this new world with you, won't you take care of me?' Her learning and grasping skills had no doubt amazed one and all; but also her everfriendly and helping nature had immensely impressed us. Her enthusiasm to participate in each and every event she comes across was simply unbelievable for us. A cheerful child, always happy; happy with my old and broken toys, also. When she accidentally broke my only Barbie doll, which I had loved the most until this moment, I couldn't yell at her, assuming I have a real beautiful doll now. Yes, the long-haired doll was truly a God's gift. So wise and unbiased her decisions, thoughts and words were! It was her innocent and unprejudiced deeds that made us familiar with Dad's smile and that he also has a softer side. Well, where will you find a tot who knows how to handle things no matter

Whenever she found any of the family members in a blue mood, she would unexpectedly come and naively ask, "What happen did Papa scold you?", as if she had the solutions for all our problems. Actually she did, with her soothing curve, which always compelled people to smile, a smile that appeared from her clear and truthful heart. Her heart... why why why... only my little angel why? His trembling hands tried to wrap little puppy’s water-curled body with his blanket. But puppy rolled over it and slid down to other side. “Could you just stop being judgmental for a minute, I know I stole this blanket from a shop. Not every crime deserves punishment” his eyes holding little puppy’s eyes.
He was back into his sojourn after a couple of minutes, completely drenched, his heart and body crying out loud for help. But no one came Zeus (Greek god of sky) neither Jupiter (Roman god of sky) nor Indra (Indian god of sky). Will they come if they would have known his religion? The question will be unanswered forever.
His hands stretched and rolled little puppy on the blanket, his teeth gritting, goose bumps erecting and his heartbeat raced to avoid every square of deathly air upon him like Brutus stabbing Caesar. Feeling pug’s heartbeat as his hand touched its heart, he felt how alike the existing souls in the world. He was a human being, on the contrary a pug but both hearts

Then in a high pitch voice a woman yelled. She said stridently that “I am ashamed of you! I am ashamed that I know a girl like you. Go, go… go and die in gutters. You have nothing of yours. You are a spoiled kid; spoilt by your father’s money.

To scream vociferously like an uncivilized person is the only thing you know. You are completely useless. I hope nothing good happens to you.” The anger temperament of her aunt rose to a level. It ended with a more powerful impact on the door, a louder thud of her kicking against the door. Inside the room With all the spunk anger display by her aunt, the girl got bewildered and perturbed. She couched tightly with each muscle tensed. Legs flexed and knees brought up to her chin, the fragile arms of her enclosing her. Tears rushed down her cheeks; soon she began to cry loudly,

After few minutes the silence dawned upon the whole area, there was that blank mysterious room again. Again came the thought for dilemma of living life this way…is it worth?
Time passed away the emotional turmoil became more frequent. The girl started to lose interest in all things slowly. She made no new friends, did not interact with anyone, and stayed aloof, neither smiled or neither cried. In her spare time she used to lie on the rusted swing and sit idle with the void stare.
Well this is not the first time this situation occurred in this household, nor was the dilemma questioned for the first time. But this was not the end to it .The quandary was soothed for time being but was never really

situation. Let’s try and understand as to why this situation arose in the first place and get to the bottom of it analytically. This would probably not leave us so befuddled. Her Aunt was basically a very workaholic and a principled lady. She had built herself from the very scratch shedding off all the dirt. Whatever she possessed in this materialistic world was very dear to her as she had to sweat for what she had. Her schedule was very tight and she worked for long hour’s continuously. She barely had a time to squat down and eat her dinner. Even back home she did not receive a helping hand in house chores from

the girl. By 10 in night she was so tired that she used to doze off completely and sleep tightly. This routine became very monotonous to her lifestyle which in itself had built a lot of latent frustration in her. All she did from time to time is abuse the girl in front of others or talk behind her. She used to gossip about her life and problems to others .This jeopardized the situation more as people would laugh and redirect her thoughts and make them more appalling. She thought, “Life is short, it’s a race if you lose, you lose the battle. Money is the thing what one needs in life to have power not over things or situation

but for self-help and practical issues” She is right in a sensible way, we all need money. When I say this money issue it is no self –greed but I am talking about money which you need for your livelihood. Likewise her aunt thought. The girl on the other hand, was an introvert but yet had that fire of spirit in her. She was completely vulnerable due to some of her previous failure in life and a new place added a pound of worries to her. The girl never really spoke up for herself. All she did was to cry to her and when she was outside crib about that matter to others. Likewise her aunt the outsiders were comforting but they

had their own inputs of devilish thoughts. They supported her but that support was in a way a step more provocative against her aunt. The girl thought “Aunt, you can worry about your goals and share market later, there will be some ups and down, But now I need you. Lest I will be someone whom you never thought would be.” She at times became very demanding of the situation and needed someone to take her out from defencelessness. My views WELL, Arguments are not novice when it comes to a house or living with a bunch of people. You have 2 sides all the time but in a limit. WHAT’s WRONG? WHY? FROM WHEN? Are just few of the questions. Problems arise, but they need to be sorted out. One needs to speak and other needs to listen and vice versa. understanding of communication; it should not be a noise of quarrel. A noise of quarrel my friends is not the sounds of disagreement in this case, but of long silence. We speak up, goof up many a times. We may be happy from inside but do we really hear our inner voices. Do we realize what we want from within or do we lead a state of hypocrisy? To portray from outside of something which is not real is way simpler than fooling you. What can be learned is to speak up for yourself, for what you think. Not to others but to you and your loved ones. We need to speak to each other than about each other. We need to

The Blackout
I knew it was late! I searched under my pillow for my cell phone to check the time. But the screen was blank. Maybe I forgot to charge, I thought. Damn it, that's why the alarm didn't ring! I hurriedly got myself ready and pulled out my watch from some corner of my desk drawer and wore it. It felt heavy and different; I had almost lost the habit of wearing watches since I had my cell phone. I had to grab a copy of a newspaper on the way to my office. Usually I had my smart phone

and 3G network to read news in my App. I missed hearing to my playlist, which used to make my day brighter. Only if I had charged my phone, I thought irritated. I could neither wish my friends a "Happy Birthday" on their walls nor could check out my friends' current updates and DPs in their What’s app! I felt all alone in this wide world. I was in for more shock after I reached office and heard that none of their phones were working too. What was happening!? Something was definitely wrong! How could all the cell phones go out blank at once?

I immediately charged my mobile and tried to bring it to life but nothing happened. The screen was as dark as my mood. News poured in about the mobile phones blackout! This was happening globally. None of the mobile phones around the world worked that day! The office hall which used to be filled with different ringtones from each one's mobile was now filled with bustling people expressing their confusion. Something was terribly wrong! But none could explain what was wrong. Having nothing to do about it everyone resumed their work. Half-heartedly I too started to work.

I had to schedule my meeting with the client and so I took out my cell phone to see my calendar and only then I realised that my mobile was not working. I had to lay my hands on my desk calendar for a change! When I had to calculate 65500 divided by 12, for a moment I took my mobile to use my calculator and then pocketed it immediately realising that my mobile was dead. Without another option, I forced my brains to do that math! Even our office beauty looked grim that day. I realised that as usual she would have received compliments

that she looked good but unfortunately she could not take a 'selfie' using her mobile camera and post her photo on Facebook to get more such compliments! I did not know what I was supposed to do that evening or the days to come as I had saved my 'Todo' list in my phone to which I had no access now. I started to jot down my to-do activities on a small notepad and felt my hands ache after 5 minutes of writing. Maybe my hands nowadays felt typing way easier and

I realised how much everyone's life was going to change without this Cell phone! Next time, when I would be heading to some unknown or new place I won't be able to use my GPS to find my way out and rather I have to ask my way to some strangers! And what would I do if I am bored anywhere or anytime? I would not be able to play games or read an e-book or even watch a movie whenever or wherever I wanted to! Oh God, why our mobile phones are not working!? What had happened to them!? The whole day no one could solve the mystery of why the cell phones were not working. Lots of debates were lined

up on news channels as in what caused this sudden black-out of mobile phones. Some thought it was a technical glitch, some thought it was a new method of terrorist attack, and some even thought that it was the end of the world. But no one was able to point out the real story behind it. All over the globe, high level committees and expert panels were set up to look into the issue! Even a special probe from NASA was announced and the US president promised to resolve this situation globally and save all the countries from what was happening. After a long day's work I reached back home and switched on my TV to

hear some new news on the mystery of the Mobile phones. The news which appeared on the TV screen startled me! It said that all the Presidents of the world have received separate emails from a single user named, "The Cell phone" and the subject of the letter was 'My Suicide'. The letter went on to explain from a cell phone's perspective of how much it was overloaded with work and how much it had to multi task and do the job of a clock, a calendar, a camera, a music player, a map, a phonebook, a personal diary and so on, though it was actually designed only for anytime communication from anywhere in the world.
October 2015 Issue
The over usage of cell phone had made it feel exhausted and thus it wanted a permanent escape from mankind and thus it decided to commit suicide. Thus the blackout! No one believed that news. Neither did me. Even an alien attack sounded reasonable and possible but the mass suicide of all the cell phones globally sounded ridiculous. None of us bought that story! Researches went on for years but without much answer. All the technical experts, mobile company owners, millionaires and even many common people poured in money to find the answer for the sudden

demise of all the cell phones at once. Many theories were put forth and many debates were held on those theories for over a decade. Many probes went on but everything only concluded with the possibility of the mass suicide of the cell phones. We, the entire human kind felt bitter after this was proved. We understood that we had caused the death of cell phones. Even the past mass murders did not have such a tragic effect on us than this mass suicide of cell phones. The cell phone which was part and parcel of our life was no more. We tried for years to bring the mobile phones back to life by

using new technologies. But none worked. The damage was irreparable. We finally understood our mistake. We understood what a negative effect we were imparting on the earth. The whole world changed after that. Human kind changed and turned over a new leaf. We started to respect everyone and everything in this world. We understood that each and everything had its own purpose. Overloading anything more than its purpose or not using a thing for what it's actually meant is both wrong. Even if we cannot understand the purpose of anything on this earth, be it small or big we should only

We have become a better and a kinder being. Mankind tries to respect everything and everyone in this world. Thanks for the mass sacrifice of the cell phones to impart this sense into mankind. Let them rest in peace. And if you want to catch a glimpse of the cell phone, you can see them at our National Museum, carefully preserved.

What made the victim hang herself at the break of dawn? What is the secret that her group of friends is hiding? Will Riya be able to salvage a workable plot for her upcoming novel out of this case of seemingly simple suicide? :Book Review: 1. Cover: The cover in bright shades of mustard yellow and red does no justice to the story. It doesn’t cover the gory murder mystery this book is soaked in nor does it pique a reader’s interest. If one were to go by the words, “ Never judge a book by its cover.” Then this would be very befitting to it.

2. Presentation: The presentation of the book is straightforward without making it seem like something too drastically different. 3. Narration: The narration is where the author takes away the maximum brownie points as she has done a stellar job therein. Writing a murder mystery in 116 pages with a power packed narrative making it an enthralling page turner is no mean feat. And the author manages to do it brilliantly. 4. Characters: The characters are very connectable, people next door ones who can be anyone around us making the story more plausible.

5. Plot: The plot is that of a suicide case when seems like a murder. Add on an investigating police officer and his writer girlfriend to get a read which is spine chilling. Not the usual run of the mill story, but something that is very refreshingly different. 6. Storyline:The story line has a lot of ups and downs which are an integral part of a murder mystery. Kudos to the author for doing it so well! 7. Story Flow: The author has got the story flow bang on with the necessary twists and turns at the right places exciting the reader to

keep turning the pages on. 8. Language: The language is very lucid and easy to understand. 9. Pros: The biggest pro this book has its story line. It is very powerful giving the reader an edge of the seat thriller kinda fun. 10. Cons: Apart from the cover, the cons would be the couple of typos and grammatical errors and also the lack of romance in the love story that held the book in the backdrop. But given that it is a murder mystery maybe the romance angle ought to be overseen.
:Overview: The overall rating for the book would be 4.5 out of 5 for the plot and narration. WE team would like to thank the author for sending across this book for review and would also like to wish her all the best for all her future endeavours.

A Minute to Death is a crime thriller with a love story running under current. Rohan, a cop, lets his writer girlfriend, Riya, to shadow him in a case. She desires to closely watch a crime investigation and develop a book around it. What can be a better case to take Riya to than a seemingly simple suicide with a watch

Most of the reviews mention my book as a page-turner and a guessing game. That’s exactly what I wanted. 4. How has been your journey to being a published author? An incident which remained with you long enough to share with our readers? It’s been amazing. I had written little bit of romance in my book from page 90-93. It’s a scene where Riya and Rohan make love. It was not injected into the story but that’s a key scene for my sequel and for the scene after that. My nephew, who studies 5th standard, got this book from me. I messaged my sister, his mom, about these three

You have written nothing that’s not shown in movies. Don’t worry I won’t try it with anyone.’ I was amazed by the maturity of this kid. 5. What does writing to you mean? When did you realize writing is what you want to do? My dad used to place newspapers that called for opinion pieces on my table, when I was a school kid. I kept ignoring him for a month. written my books a lot better than what they are now. Also I suggest them not follow anyone. What works for me won’t work out for them. Do what your heart says. Though I say I would have written it better today I don’t regret my decision of getting it published as that was solely my decision and I am happy about it. Most importantly, accept your weakness than defending yourself when people point it out. 7. In the whole story of A minute to death, the narrative has been very emotive though the genre, the plot and the storyline didn’t demand it. Does it show the real Ganga in those emotions?
October 2015 Issue
Yes, I am a very emotional person. I cry even when someone is hurt in movies. I am not a bit practical. I make things up in my mind and always connect with other’s problems instantly. So everything affects me. 8. If given a chance is there something that you would like to change in this book? If I am given a chance I will change the story itself as I get too bored to work on the same story twice. That’s one reason I don’t edit my own work. As I write, if I create a twist and reveal a suspense, and say that document gets deleted I will try my best to avoid that twist and write a new one. I am that particular about entertaining and

surprising myself more than entertaining the readers. 9. Talking about being a published author, now that you have two books to your credit how does it feel to have the tag “author” alongside your name? To be honest, it doesn’t feel as good as people think it does. I want to be accepted as a good writer. Author, anyone can become one. Today it’s so easy to get published. But to become a ‘Good writer’ it takes a lot of hard work and perseverance. 10. A minute to death is your second book, which is a thriller with romance in the backdrop. You have been trying your hand

at thrillers since your debut book. Any specific reason for this? I write the stories that occur to me. I don’t restrict myself with the type of narrative or genre or any formats or standards. My first book, Just you, me and a secret, is a suspense romance thriller. It is written in first person and nonlinear narrative. My second book, A Minute to Death, is a crime thriller. It is written in third person and linear narrative. I did not even realize these until people pointed it out. So, to answer your question, there is no specific reason for anything I do. Calcutta–A City Remembered and the Maximum City: Bombay Lost and Found by Suketu Mehta are examples of such subjective memoirs. As Jug Suraiya writes, “Anyone who has ever been there has his own Calcutta. All you have to do is listen to it, as I have listened to mine." Maximum City is listed as one of the top books on Mumbai, though it is more of the view of a visitor and is a journal of self-discovery. Closer to Suraiya’s recollections on Calcutta is the motley of essays, Bombay, Meri Jaan: Writings on Mumbai, edited by Jerry Pinto and Naresh Fernandes.

For Indian travel writing by Indian writers to evolve, we needed a more liberalized economy with educated and aware Indians hitting the roads and documenting their travels. The millennials in India have started filling this gap and there is a rise of the whole new genre of travel writings on India by Indians. It is a refreshing trend especially in the wake of the theme of diaspora that most Indian writers in English have juiced to the maximum. Unlike most foreign tourists, who are definitely traversing our country on actual vacations and mostly on shoe-string budgets, Indian travelers usually

While most have to leave cushy jobs to travel, many have been introduced to the lure of travel, while on the job, or even while travelling are engaged in some form of economic facilitation. Rishad Saam Mehta who has had the pleasure of enjoying Hot Tea across India partook exciting adventures and road trips while employed with Autocar India. Financial concerns are evident in most travel writings by backpackers, with Frank Kusy even having to sell his sleeping bag and camera, as he describes in his book, Kevin and I in India. The spiritual quest is more evident in the writings by foreign travelers, like Kusy, who is on a Buddhist pilgrimage, but they eventually get affected by the materialistic environs of India. Many foreigners as well as Indians are quick to see the pathetic allegiance of religion and money, superstition and people, and of course the pervasiveness of touts, guides, ruffians, beggars, cripples, holy cows, donkeys, rats, cockroaches, street dogs, mosquitoes, and all manners of filth in some of the most revered areas of our country.

The unscrupulous and the vagrant sadly stain the rich cultural experience that our country offers. Indian travelers are less harassed by such travesty and are almost never pursued with offers of women and recreational drugs. Recreational drugs are an oft documented part of the Indo-Nepalese travel circuit with the relatively harmless hashish and the more hazardous heroin, and all that lies in-between, being clandestinely offered to the nonIndian backpacker. Frank and Kevin came to India at a time when toilet paper was horrendously expensive and online train and bus reservations unheard of.

Globalization has changed a lot of that, at least toilet paper is readily available and affordable, and most restaurant menus are edited better, but all travelers, irrespective of nationality, are still tortured on rickety and reckless bus journeys and punished by travails of the Indian railways. Toilet woes of all nature are also an inherent part of the narrative. All writers give in to the temptation of vociferously narrating the plight of the Indian railways, notable amongst these writers is Monisha Rajesh whose work Around India in 80 Trains has been summarized by The Telegraph, as, “a tale of freedom and frustration on India’s railways.”

Monisha Rajesh, Suketu Mehta, and Siddhartha Deb of the The Beautiful and the Damned–A Portrait of the New India fame, belong to the tribe of writer’s who have grown up in India, studied or moved overseas, and then returned to stoke their patriotism by travelling across India and writing about it. Their writings are a mix of nostalgia and a medley of pride and dejection as they marvel at a globalized India and its people, many of whom are still stuck in a time warp. Take for instance, how Deb’s narrative starts with the story of Arindam Chaudhuri and ends with the

As he lays the premise of his work, Deb writes, “A country that has seen a sudden infusion of wealth and a rapid disengagement with its past tends to throw up people who are traveling very quickly and seem to have no clear antecedents.” In Deb’s writings, I can sense the same emotions that run through Jug Suraiya as he remembers erstwhile Calcutta, because these books house the true essence of India– capturing the high and lows of the great sea of humanity. young age, unbeknownst to me, paper and pencil became my best friend. I was the second child of parents whose first child was afflicted with cerebral palsy. Perhaps they were so consumed with bringing up a disabled child, they couldn’t always find time to quench my thirst for answers or sooth my nerves, from very early childhood. I didn’t complain. My young mind somehow understood that my brother deserved more of my parents’ time but somewhere in that understanding, the writer in me was born. When sometimes I didn’t find answer to my doubts, my pain, my conflict, my sadness, I would just

But with them, perhaps those disappearing words would also wash away my pain. It would release me from inner turmoil and suddenly I would feel lighter making my strength reemerge. I grew up to become a doctor. Medical profession is a full time job. I hardly got time when I was studying. But I kept channelizing my emotions in words, sometimes only in few lines and sometimes in couple of pages. The last few blank pages of my medical books were

my favourite spot. It would be a privilege to scribble few lines on them in middle of my intensive study schedule. My profession became my first passion as I grew. My personal life that was simultaneously going through changes also had its fair share of ups and downs. However, my friendship with words continued, sometimes dormant, sometimes expressed. Only difference was, instead of paper, now it was diary which was later replaced by computer. As a medical doctor also, I encountered so many extreme emotions. If a birth of a new born was source of great joy, the death of a patient would cause immense sadness. No, I could never remain detached. With every birth, a part of me would be born again and with every death, a part of me would die. Later I specialized in field of HIV/AIDS and my professional duties particularly narrowed down to people living with HIV/AIDS, people who not only have to deal with their illness but also chronic agony, pain and flickering hopes. Somehow, I identified with them. I shared their dilemma; I

It taught me some very amazing lessons which continue till date for learning never stops in life. I learnt from them, their fight against all odds, their hoping against hope and most importantly not giving up in life. All these experiences are reflected in whatever I write. Writing of any kind, not necessarily published or unpublished, seen or unseen by the world, helps you to evolve. As I write, I introspect a lot. And also, when I observe people, their dilemma, their anxiety, their pain, I can empathize with them. It’s as if I am living in their body and going through all those emotions. It’s not possible to truly understand other’s pain but at least, it helps you in making a better human being. Gradually my profession progressed, but my writing still remained in infancy. And it didn’t matter because I was writing for myself. For my every conflict, with myself or the world, my

body and mind would engage in their internal fights but my soul would remain at peace with my writings. Some of my close friends did suggest me to publish, but I was not truly prepared to share my writings with the world. Besides being busy with my profession and not able to write comprehensively, I was little hesitant. It bothered me to exhibit my vulnerabilities through my characters to my readers. When you write, even in fiction, every character has some part of you hidden in them, somewhere. You talk through them, you laugh through them, you cry through them. But that never happened until I was thrown into the worst crisis of my professional life. My career was systematically destroyed by incompetent and corrupt leadership of the organization where I worked because of some ulterior motives. I faced severe harassments at work place. I was even denied promotion in spite of my experience and good performance. I witnessed corruption and caste based politics

Through this book I also tried to highlight the rampant corruption in medical field and how unfortunately, merit doesn’t always stand a chance in front of mediocrity. Justice eluded her as well as Aman, the man whom she loved, in their struggle for achieving the life they dreamt, the life they deserved. But, ironically while Meera rises in such difficult times, Aman falls. She tries to help him in spite of her own dilemmas but he misunderstands her. And there is Abhay, the

Through Meera, I was perhaps trying to tell my inner child that life doesn’t always follow your plans. It follows its own path and pace. And instead of resisting it, we must embrace it. I hope you will read the book to find out what happened to Meera, her love, her dreams and her struggles, her loss and her triumph. And also to find out could she follow her dreams, could she reclaim her love and could she let go that was not destined for her and moved on with life. About Vajpayee

:Intro: “Fantastic 40” is arguably one of India’s first assortment of English micro stories (shorter than a short story) which is an amalgamation of author’s figments of imagination based on fiction works depicted in the form of crispy narrations. It contains 40 stories encircling various moods of life including love, humour, trust, revenge, happiness, anguish, sarcasm, mystery, affection, sportsmanship, friendship, thrill, romance and forgiveness. Though all the events/characters depicted in the book are purely imaginary, yet readers can easily identify oneself with

most of them. Target readers will mostly include the young readers – agewise or mindwise who enjoy reaching climaxes in a single breath. The language used being extremely crunchy, it will also attract anyone who enjoys witty puns and sweet love stories. :Book Review: 1. Cover: The colourful cover looks very eye catching in a manner but despite many attempts one cannot connect it to the theme except the part that perhaps the author wanted the cover to depict the varied emotions/ moods that form the crux of each story.

stand out amongst all those anthologies in the market. This is one which screams for itself , of its quality of the work , of its stories and most importantly of its theme.
3. Narration: The narration of each story is very emotive with sparse detailing yet in depth description. The author deserves to be applauded for this effort of hers as playing in word count and that too so brilliantly is not an easy thing.
6. Cons: The book could have done much better with another round of editing but then if one was to go by the author’s reason behind it in the interview, it all seems to fall into place.
4. Language: The language is minimalistic, depicting its usage perfectly. 5. Pros: The book’s uniqueness is its strongest pro making it www.writersezine.com | admin@writersezine.com | www.facebook.com/writersezine | www.twitter.com/writers_ezine

The blurb of her book reads: “Fantastic 40” is arguably one of India’s first assortment of English micro stories (shorter than a short story) which is an amalgamation of author’s figments of imagination based on fiction works depicted in the form of crispy narrations. It contains 40 stories encircling various moods of life including love, humour, trust, revenge, happiness, anguish, sarcasm, mystery, affection, sportsmanship, friendship, thrill, romance and forgiveness. believe every little thing adds up to motivating me towards writing. It’s my passion which never stopped me from penning down my thoughts on paper. ‘Fantastic 40’ is a collection of 40 stories encircling all such moods of life we frequently come across including love, humor, trust, revenge, happiness, anguish, sarcasm, mystery, affection, sportsmanship, friendship, thrill, romance and forgiveness. 2. How does it feel to be a published author now? To be honest, it undoubtedly feels great to be a published author now. But my dream does not end here. I aim

to be one of the bestselling Indian authors in five years from now. 3. Touted as India’s first collection of micro stories, what made you want to try this? I write what I love to read. I liked to read fantasy novels in childhood. With time, I started feeling tired of waiting so much to know what finally happens at the end. So started reading short stories and soon became an avid reader of the genre. Be it in any language I kept reading them. I enjoy quickly getting into the climax. Soon short stories too seemed too long to hold my curiosity back and I was slowly growing impatient to read them

as well. Started looking for even shorter stories in the racks. Well, before starting with my micro story concept, one question frequently came to my mind, - In today’s speedy world, do we really have enough time to relax and enjoy a full length novel? Keeping the fast pace of our promising nations, is it not high time to make a paradigm shift of the contemporary literary styles? Such thoughts ran behind me for months till the time I came up with the concept of MICRO STORY. 4. There is always an amount of risk involved when you venture out to try something that is so new. feelings before you started getting reviews on your work. Yes, will agree – I was a bit skeptical about the acceptance of my genre/ writing style. It was like a double trouble for me – introducing a new genre narrated in a style which is not perfect English. If you read through my stories, you will find plenty of the sentences are not grammatically faultless, especially when used in a conversational note between characters, expression of thoughts, self-dialogues etc. All such attempts were made to make the content more realistic in a sense, coming out of the stereo type tough English sentences to a colloquial one, as a reverence to Bernard

Shaw’s age-old remark, “Spoken English is Broken English.” Luckily, most of my respected reviewers have appreciated the spontaneity of my writing style and the impulsiveness of the plots, except a few. 5. When did writing happen to you? Writing started as a child’s play for me. During my childhood days, my mom inspired me to think, imagine fantasies and write whatever came to my mind. My parents love to travel a lot and that had infused a nomadic spree in me. Since my childhood I have been to many places across geographies which help me in setting scenes for many of my stories. As I grew up, I started

sharing my creative outputs with various literary magazines across the globe. Even I engaged myself as one of the Editors of my school and college magazines and soon after my graduation I went on to venture my own magazine named “Culture Flash”. Shortly my works happened to receive varied accolades at different platforms. With time, it was my husband who motivated me to write a book. 6. In times when the market is flooded with anthologies, what do you think sets Fantastic 40 apart from all of them? The genre of the book. The very concept of Micro Stories is very rare in the modern literary world. Most of my stories are even

shorter than a typical short story, ideally to let my readers complete a full story in a single breath. Hence I coined the name “MICRO STORY” to tag my innovative creations. I respect my reader’s time and would like them to start talking about this new concept of micro stories. 7. If there is one thing you could convey to the reader through this book what would it be? That our life is a mixed bag of events, governed by the nine emotions (generated out of our five senses) which keep ruling our life till the last day. It takes a sensitive mind to pick up those events and carefully string them together in a way that does not affect

the coming days. There is no good in sticking to the past if it only brings tears to your eyes. Let’s accept it and take a step forward…who knows something better is not waiting for us? 8. Bringing out an innovative concept like this how easy or difficult was it for you to find a publisher who believed in your story / stories? Haha…no shame in saying – it was after 52 rejections, I finally met a publisher who agreed to publish my work of nonconventional genre narrated in an atypical writing style. I am highly thankful to the editorial team of AABG for the kind of support I received from them in getting my stories published.

Most of her writings depict human feelings and emotions, which she tries to bring out onto the page and into the minds of the reader. She believes that essence of writing lies in not only entertaining the reader, but speaking to them through words. Her style of writing makes it easier for the readers to visualize the story unfolding around them. She is of the opinion that being good at writing a story is not about the story being unpredictable, it is about the way you narrate the predictable story and still keep the reader interested.
