The Forestville Village Association is offering an ornament that depicts the Forest House Hotel, a village fixture from 1871 to 1921, on one side and the Forestville Center

Ornaments celebrate history Continued from Page B2
ornament. The Forest House Hotel stood where Thomas W. Quinlan Memorial Park is now. The hotel served business people arriving at the Forestville railroad station. After 50 years, the hotel was sold and become a private rooming house Several business were located on the ground floor in the hotel’s later years. including the Forestville Center Confectionery, the Place of Sweets. The Forest House fell victim to the Flood of 1955 and
the need to build a new bridge. The Historical Society’s Terry Homestead ornament is the first of a series of five depicting historical homes in Bristol. The Terry Homestead was built by William Barnes and his wife Martha in 1748. After a long history and several owners, the property become the home of the Bristol Historical Society in the 1970s. The society moved in 2002 to the former Bristol High School on Summer Street, while the old homestead has declined.

The town bought the house years ago. It housed the fire marshal and the visiting nurses for a while, then sat empty until the Friends got permission to take it over.
