THE CRESCENT HOTEL 1912-1949. Built by Captain Watkin Williams on the sea front that he had traded for a farm acreage, it was a popular summer retreat for those looking to escape the heat and bustle of the Cities. The hotel changed hands in 1928 and the new owner, J. A. Cates, extensively renovated it just as the Great Depression hit. By 1932, the Cates Hotel had gone into bankruptcy and a bank took it over.
