CHAIR H
i all, it looks like Spring has arrived here in Staffordshire and it is great to see a few postings starting to appear on the WSCC I Boardroom saying "First run out" and I the like. have just about finished my car I ready for the onslaught of this year's WSCC Sprint Series — with my first I event of the season at Castle Combe near Chippenham this coming weekend | (26th March). If you live near a circuit that is on the Speed Series calendar, please pop along i to have a chat and see what we get up | to with this 'Sprinting' lark - you never know, you might want to join in one day! I mentioned the WSCC Boardroom | above; I am aware that not all of you
frequent this site, but most members dip in and out' quite frequently. It is with great sadness that I have had to ban a member and withdraw his WSCC membership also following a series of complaints concerning posts which were in exceptional bad taste. A couple of these posts have also resulted in a l o n g - s t a n d i n g and respected member withdrawing his membership as he feels the Boardroom is no longer the place for him. As you may imagine, the Committee and I take a very dim view of anything posted on the boardroom that is not suitable for a minor to read. From here on, we will be pretty ruthless with swearing, personal insults (that go beyond the usual 'Mickey taking'), and
anything that is likely to bring the club into disrepute. It is a real shame that we are having to do this — as it is only four or five members who seem to insist on posting this kind of thing — but the complaints I get far outweigh their continued membership if this kind of behaviour continues. Sorry to be such an old grouch on a lovely sunny day — but I am afraid these things have to be said, for the benefit of all members. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the National Kit Car Show in Stoneleigh on May Bank Holiday (Island 2nd May). We are arranging two stands as before and there promises to be lots going on,

not least of which will be a 'tug-of-war' contest between WSCC members and some lot from the "Cateringvan Club". I Remember Curborough last year guys no way are you going to win! I have it on good authority that the sun will now continue to shine until November 21st — so get out there and enjoy your Westfields — and, above all, keep it safe. Regards, Paul

CHANGING THE REAR SHOCKS ON AN

•he original factory shocks were getting a bit squishy and I really noticed it on my last track day lunging into hard corners disconcertingly. So time for an upgrade to some better quality and stiffer alloy ProTechs (which I already have on the front)... The procedure that worked for me
Photo 8+9: Measure the old shock carefully — mounting hole centre to centre and spring length, you'll need it when ordering the new one. Apparently the spring weight might be stamped on some, but it wasn't on mine.

Photo 1+2: Once you get the wheels off, there's good access to the left and right side original shocks
Photo 3+4: The lower bolt goes through the hub upright and bushing at lower end of shock, separated by a series of simple washers. This is easy to remove - just take off the nut and gently knock out the bolt. Support the hub so it doesn't suddenly drop.
by Darren M Photo 11: The upper bracket is welded to the chassis. When I went to fit the new shocks I discovered the width of the new shock upper bushing/mount was a few mm wider than the old one, so I had to gently spread apart the bracket to allow it to fit. By far the most time consuming part of the whole episode, trying to do that with minimal force or j stress on the bracket
Photo 12+13: With the top ends bolted back in, easy to bolt through the bottom end (don't forget the washers). Take this opportunity to count the Photo 10: The nice chaps at ProComp § number of clicks in the shock range sold me this fine new set - a matched j| and dial the clicks all the way counter pair with valving and spring weights set y clockwise to full loose up according to my preferred driving style and typical weight configuration (just me, on the track).
Photo 5: The upper bolt is more difficult to access. The front of it pokes through a hole in the body tub behind the seat - peel back the interior carpet and remove a rubber grommet to access the bolt. Once you get a grip on it, easy enough to remove
Photo 14: Wheels back on, add a few clicks and a quick drive to check how it feels and that nothing is amiss. Add more clicks to stiffen to your taste (I'm at +6 all round, will try more when I get to the track).
Photo 6+7: with the two bolts removed, the old shocks come out simply. Nothing more to it.

o end the quiet period our first meet of 2011 took place at The Old Ram on Sunday 6th March. Steve Nichols was the only one brave enough to bring the Westfield out and he was joined there by three of us who took to the comfort of the faithful old tin top. Steve is still quite enthusiastic about his recently acquired V8-powered car and after hopefully sorting out some niggling running problems over the winter was keen to give it another run. It is a really nice car, see photo, and he seems well pleased with it. Not much else to say about this meeting only that we had a drink and chat in the bar and looked forward to better weather to come and the chance to bring the proper car out.

ebruary's club night was a game of ten pin, with a good turn out. Slip, Bob, Terry, Gill, Clive, Maureen, Ross, and Jeff plus spectators, Andrew, Pete and Tony. It's amazing what the appearance of the Slippy Shuffle, or was it the possibility of Swiss Jeff, did!
Highest score of 132 for the evening for the first game went to Slipster, and with an identical score the second game to yours truly, with many a "what if" thrown into the mix. New to Ten Pin was Mau, who has pestered Clive ever since for more games, sorry mate! February also saw Darlington Motor club have its annual Awards Do, with Pilot Pete scooping some very good awards both for driving, and for Pugwash video productions. March Club night was at the Old Mill with a good turn out again, thanks to Jeff, Andrew, Pete, Scott, Clive Mau, Stevo, and Tony.
