A truly electrifying start to the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth season. And it could not be otherwise: the three races held on the fast French circuit of Le Castellet, where the drivers of Formula 1 exalted and exalt the fans with their deeds, allowed the young protagonists of the Italian championship to prove their skills, and their desire to win, putting on a spectacular show. Once again, as at the beginning of the 2020 season, a full selection alternated at the top of the rankings: three pole positions assigned to three different drivers, two different winners, as many drivers who achieved the fastest lap and, above all, five climbed on the podium at least once. There is still a long way to go, but the Misano World Circuit will be a fundamental stage for those who wish to confirm (and improve) the results achieved in France and those who, on the other hand, want to redeem themselves after a few missed opportunities. Misano, with its decisive braking, fast bends and characteristics that require clean and precise driving, can be the perfect training ground for growing and enriching one’s experience in a single-seater. Will we see the same protagonists raise their trophies again at the end of the three races or will there be some surprises that will enhance the championship rankings? As always, the track will decide the final outcome. May the best driver win!

Oliver Bearman Van Amersfoort Racing
Kirill Smal (Prema Powerteam) achieved his first career victory in the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth in race 1. The race started with the safety car on the track, thanks to the arrival of a light rain a few minutes after the traffic lights went out. Smal, in pole position, had a good start at the waving of the green flags and had no problem dominating the competition. A second safety car, on the track due to a single-seater spinning in the escape route of the Mistral chicane, put an end to hostilities in advance and Smal celebrated a fully deserved success. Tim Tramnitz (US Racing) finished in second place after a long battle with Oliver Bearman (Van Amersfoort Racing) who came third. Victor Bernier (R-ace GP) dashed from ninth place and quickly recovered to come fourth: the Frenchman was, however, penalised with a second on the final time by the race officials for violating the track limits during some overtakings. As a result, Vlad Lomko (US Racing) was promoted to fourth and Conrad Laursen (Prema Powerteam) to fifth, while Bernier dropped to sixth place. Among the competing rookies, Laursen was the best in the final rankings.

Kirill Smal (Prema Powerteam) mette a segno la prima vittoria in carriera nell’Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth in gara 1.

Race 2 gave us a new winner: Tim Tramnitz (US Racing) achieved his first success in the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth in front of team-mate Luke Browning (US Racing). The German driver took advantage of an error at the start by Oliver Bearman (Van Amersfoort Racing), in pole position but stalled when the traffic lights went out, and kept Browning in his sights up to the chequered flag, despite two interventions by the safety car while racing. Kirill Smal (Prema Powerteam), first in race 1, wasted time behind Bearman and lost a few positions at the start. However, the Russian managed to quickly recover to earn third place. Sebastian Montoya (Prema Powerteam), Joshua Dürksen (BWT Mücke Motorsport) and Vlad Lomko (US Racing) animated the battle for fourth place: Montoya was good at dealing with the two rivals and took fourth place, with Dürksen fifth and Lomko sixth. Bearman positively remedied the problem he ran into at the start and recovered from twentieth to seventh place. With his final tenth place, Lorenzo Patrese (AKM Motorsport) was first among the rookies in the race.

Sunday at Le Castellet smiled once again at Tim Tramnitz (US Racing). The German driver added to his victory in race 2 in the morning with success in race 3 in the afternoon and flew into first place in the overall championship rankings. Tramnitz started well from pole position and immediately distanced himself from the group of pursuers led by Sebastian Montoya (Prema Powerteam). A safety car intervened a few minutes from the end due to an accident between two single-seaters. The safety car gave the green light when there was a minute plus a lap left at the end of the event, but this did not create tension or lead Tramnitz, who was firmly in command, to make mistakes. Oliver Bearman (Van Amersfoort Racing) paid for a little mistake at the start that kept him involved in the battle for second place but managed to beat Montoya. Vlad Lomko (US Racing) and Leonardo Fornaroli (Iron Lynx) also managed to get behind the Colombian driver and finish, respectively, in third and fourth place, while Montoya finished fifth. Kirill Smal (Prema Powerteam) was out due to a contact on the first lap with compatriot Nikita Bedrin (Van Amersfoort Racing), the latter rather unlucky. Conrad Laursen (Prema Powerteam) did not participate due to a wrist injury he picked up in race 2. 37

The rich tally of two victories and a second place, for a total of 68 points, launched Tim Tramnitz to the top of the championship rankings. A retirement partially penalised the roadmap of Kirill Smal, the other winner of Le Castellet, in second place with 40 points, while in third place we find Oliver Bearman with 39 points. With six more events to go, the road to the title is still long and still completely open.
The consistency of results in France rewarded Maya Weug at the top of the rankings reserved for rookies in the Italian championship. The Dutch girl (with a Belgian license) achieved a second place and two fifths for a total of 38 points, one more than Jonas Ried who chased in second place with a win in race 3. Kacper Sztuka came third with 32 points, while Lorenzo Patrese and Conrad Laursen (the other two rookie winners) came both fifth.
The excellent results achieved during the weekend mean that US Racing leads the team rankings. Tramnitz’s two victories, together with the podiums of Luke Browning and Vlad Lomko, contributed to a total of 113 points in favour of the German team. With just one win under their belt, the reigning champions of Prema Powerteam are chasing in second place with 72 points and Van Amersfoort Racing is third with 45 points.

Built in the early 1970s and completely renovated in 2006, the Misano World Circuit is one of the flagships of Italian and European motorsport. The circuit, dedicated to the late Italian motorcyclist Marco Simoncelli, hosts the MotoGP World Championship every year and several car series with significant continental prominence. Curiously, before the renewal of its facilities, racing was counter-clockwise instead of clockwise as is currently the case. The access to the circuit is named after Daijirō Katō, a Japanese motorcyclist who also passed away, who loved to stay near the circuit.

FOCUS: 2021 TEAMS
WHO ARE THE TEAMS IN THE 2021 SEASON At the start of the season, there were 12 teams in the paddock of the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth with their drivers. Let’s get to know them in detail, in strict alphabetical order, with the first episode of this new article which will also be present in the next issues.
AKM MOTORSPORT Founded in 1993 in Bargellino (Bologna, Italy), Antonelli Motorsport has achieved important successes in various classes such as GT, Turismo and single-make. AKM Motorsport by Antonelli was established in 2020 (with the aim of starting young drivers on a path in the world of karting and single-seaters) by participating in the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth. For the 2021 season, the Italian team has chosen drivers Levi Révész and Lorenzo Patrese. The Hungarian Révész is debuting in a single-seater, while the Italian Patrese (son of Riccardo Patrese, former Formula 1 driver) has already participated in a few races in 2020. @AKMmotorsportbyantonelli

@AKMmotorsportbyantonelli
AS MOTORSPORT
@AS-motorsport
Thanks to Andrej Slak, AS Motorsport officially became active as a real team in 1997 in rally competitions, subsequently moving to singleseaters between 2010 and 2011. The Slovenian team, with one of its headquarters near Venice, Italy, organised development programmes and tests on the track for young drivers, entering the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth on a permanent basis in 2019. It is the Polish driver Kacper Sztuka who will be representing the colours of AS Motorsport in the 2021 season. Born on 29 January 2006, Sztuka has carried out several tests during 2020 and made his debut this year in the Italian tricolor championship.
BVM RACING
Since 1993, BVM Racing, which takes its name from the initial letters of the surnames of Antonio Bertoni, Bruno Vannini and Giuseppe Mazzotti, the founders of the team, has been involved in the most important series in Europe. Many future stars have grown up in its ranks such as, for example, Antonio Giovinazzi (in Formula 1 with Alfa Romeo) and Nicholas Latifi (in F1 with Williams). Three top BVM Racing drivers for the 2021 season: Francesco Simonazzi has a lot of experience behind him being in his third year in the Italian F4 Championship powered by Abarth; alongside him we find Leonardo Bizzotto and Eron Rexhepi, who are instead both rookies.
@AS-motorsport

FOCUS & ENTRY LIST
F4 DRIVERS: WHERE ARE THEY NOW? With the eigth season already started at Le Castellet a few weeks ago, the Italian F4 Championship continues to be one of the top classes for those who race, for the first time, in single-seaters. The first edition in 2014 seems a long time ago: 11 teams at the start in at least one race weekend and a total of 28 drivers participating who were protagonists in the seven calendar events. The championship was dominated by the Canadian Lance Stroll who, within a few years, passed to Formula 1 with Williams, and then moved on to Racing Point and Aston Martin. Second in the general rankings and main rival of the Canadian, Mattia Drudi moved to the Porsche single-make in the following year and in 2019 he was called by Audi as official driver for international GT competitions where, among other things, he achieved a second place in the 24 Hours of Spa in 2020. Another excellent performer in the 2014 season, Leonardo Pulcini, won the Spanish Formula 3 in 2016 and, subsequently, disputed three complete years in the GP3 Series and Formula 3.
Mattia Drudi
@mattia.drudi.77
In the same year, Mahaveer Raghunathan also entered the Italian tricolor series. The Indian driver then moved on to European Formula 3 in 2015, continuing his career with two races in the GP3 Series in 2016 and his debut in Formula 2 in 2019. Only two events (with a podium) for Matteo Cairoli in 2014, with the Italian deciding to race with covered wheels as a Porsche Junior driver and, within a few years, he was promoted to being a Porsche Young Professional. In his curriculum there is mainly a second place in the LMGTE-Am class of the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2017, a second in the LMGTE class of the European Le Mans Series in 2019 and a third in the 24 Hours of Spa in 2020.
Lance Stroll
