This time let’s start with a provocation: “Why the cruelest of months? And isn’t it still March anyways?” True. But this is the eve of the first race of the Super Master Series that will assign its prestigious title over one month and three intense battles. So by April, while one happy driver will have sealed the deal (in each category), many others will be left to face the bitterness of defeat. So, yes, April will be cruel, but, when you think about it, in the positive sense of “cruelty”, the kind that calls man once again to action, reawakening his senses from the somber tranquillity of winter. Or to quote Eliot: “Winter kept us warm…” and the beginning of the WSK Super Master Series will stir “dull roots with spring rain”. So, let cruelty fall upon us…

Questa volta partiamo da una provocazione: “Ma come il più crudele dei mesi? E, poi, non siamo ancora in marzo?”. Vero. Però siamo alla vigilia della prima gara della Super Master Series, che nell’arco di un mese, in tre gare tiratissime, assegnerà il prestigioso titolo. Entro Aprile, quindi, i giochi saranno fatti e, per un pilota (per categoria) felice, molti di più saranno quelli che dovranno digerire una sconfitta. Sarà crudele, allora, Aprile, ma, a ben vedere, di quella positiva “crudeltà” propria di chi richiama l’uomo all’azione, distogliendolo dalla facile tranquillità dell’inverno. Come scrive Eliot: “L’inverno ci mantenne al caldo…” ora, il via della WSK Super Master Series, risveglierà “le radici sopite con la pioggia della primavera”. E, allora, che crudeltà sia…

A “classic” WSK series venue, the 1256 meters long 7 Laghi Circuit is especially appreciated for its interesting bends. The 2014 Super Master Series will run its mid-way round on this stimulating track in north Italy. Ancora La Conca, ancora WSK e ancora tanta emozione sportiva. Per l’ultimo round della Super Master Series 2014 si torna in un tracciato che si conosce bene e capace di regalare sicuramente uno spettacolo unico.

Italy, in a way, is the global capital of karting, thanks to its chassis and engine factories, but also to its many top-level race venues, an expression of excellence in terms of track design and shape. This is why the country was again chosen as the terrain of competition for this WSK event. Three tracks that have already stood the challenge of hosting prestigious events are set on doing so again, with one sure goal: producing the best show that karting has to offer. L’Italia, in un certo senso, è la Capitale mondiale del karting. Tante aziende produttrici, ma anche tante strutture che, dal punto di vista qualitativo, rappresentano l’eccellenza per quanto riguarda il disegno e la forma dei tracciati. Anche per questo evento marchiato WSK, quindi, si è scelto di usare la Penisola come luogo di sfida sportiva. Tre piste, capaci già di ospitare eventi di prestigio, che ci riprovano una volta di più. The track-side imaging system set up at each event includes from 5 to 12 cameras and is coordinated from WSK’s mobile production control room (in the photos). Lungo i tracciati di gara sono previste un numero di videocamere che va da un minimo di 5 a un massimo di 12. Tutte, ovviamente, coordinate dal camion regia (in queste foto) itinerante.

Per tutte le gare gestite dalla WSK Promotion, la competizione in pista potrà godere anche di un’esposizione mediatica decisamente performante. C’è l’accordo con Rai Sport, che prevede le trasmissioni sui canali dell’emittente pubblica italiana, e lo streaming web in grado di far vedere a tutti gli appassionati la diretta delle corse da ogni parte del globo attraverso il sito www.wsk.it. Oltre a questo, degno di nota, è il team regia composto da decine di professionisti del settore. Previsto, inoltre, l’utilizzo di un drone: un velivolo che, pilotato da terra, ottiene delle riprese aeree uniche e suggestive. La pioggia ha aperto entrambi i round della WSK Champions Cup: ha fatto il suo ingresso nei primi giorni di pista per poi andarsene ed essere sostituita da un bellissimo sole. Le condizione meteo hanno sicuramente giovato sia al pubblico (numerosissimo!) sia ai piloti che si sono sfidati in pista. Non affatto secondario il clima di internazionalità rappresentato dai tanti Paesi presenti. Infine il lato sportivo: ogni gara ha regalato emozione, agonismo, colpi di scena e spettacolo. Il tutto, sempre, nel rispetto delle regole.

Both rounds of the WSK Champions Cup opened in the rain, but thankfully unfolded under clearing skies and closed immersed in orange light. The weather certainly made fans happy (what a crowd!), but it also favored those on track. Another key “track condition” was the international atmosphere of the grids in all categories. Competitiveness, excitement, unexpected twists, serious fun, and, of course, fairplay: these were the other secret ingredients of the great show.

Four categories for four champions. The WSK Champions Cup proclaimed the first names of the season able to triumph on track: competitiveness, luck, instinct and mad skill. In the end Karol Basz (Tony Kart/Vortex) came out on top, but it was no walk in the park. The mere 10 points that separate him from Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart/TM) prove how tight the battle was until the very end. It was only on lap 17 of the Final 2 that Basz managed the winning pounce (over Callum Ilott) that earned him the title trophy. A champion who won by merit, believing in it the whole time and never giving up.

Round one belonged to Enaam Ahmed (FA Kart/ Vortex). The English driver won both the Pre-final and the Final, gaining a comfortable lead over rivals with a round to spare. In the second and last event, Ahmed again won the Pre-final, but was then forced to an almost impossible rebound in the Final. He was sent spinning, at the start, but kept his cool and climbed up into ninth position. A good enough result to win the KFJ title.

Alla fine l’ha spuntanta Karol Basz (Tony Kart/Vortex), ma non è stata certamente una passeggiata. I soli dieci punti che lo dividono da Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart/TM) dimostrano quanto la lotta sia stata serrata fino a pochi giri dalla fine della Finale del secondo round. Al 17esimo giro dell’ultima gara, infatti, Basz ha infilato il sorpasso decisivo (ai danni di Callum Ilott), che ha significato testa della corsa e, soprattutto, trionfo nella classifica generale della competizione. Un campione che ha vinto con merito, credendoci sempre e non arrendendosi mai.

Il primo round è stato sotto il segno di Enaam Ahmed (FA Kart/Vortex). Il pilota inglese ha vinto, infatti, Pre Finale e Finale distanziando i suoi avversari di molto con ancora un altro week end di pista. Nel secondo e decisivo round Ahmed ha vinto nuovamente in Pre Finale e, poi, in Finale si è trovato a dover compiere una rimonta quasi impossibile. Al via viene spedito in testacoda, ma l’inglese non si fa scoraggiare e inizia a recuperare, risalendo fino alla nona posizione. Una piazzamento utile e sufficiente, appunto, per vincere il titolo KFJ.

Benjamin Hanley (Art Gp/TM) is the champion of a highly competitive category of top level rivals. The English driver secured his triumph by winning the round 1 Final and collecting a precious second place finish in the round 2 Pre-final. This was a true sporting battle, where mistakes cost dearly. Hanley’s victory stands as a sort of award to talent and the ability to collect the best possible result even in adverse conditions. Benjamin Hanley (Art Gp/TM) si laurea campione in una categoria dove il livello dei partecipanti è veramente alto. L’inglese ipoteca il trionfo andando a vincere la Finale del primo round e ottenendo un preziosissimo secondo posto nella Pre Finale del secondo. Una vera e propria battaglia sportiva dove chi ha sbagliato ha pagato e non poco. La vittoria di questo pilota è una sorta di premio alla bravura e alla capacità di riuscire a ottenere sempre il massimo risultato possibile anche in condizioni non favorevoli.

There was a common element to the Final races of all categories: an unpredictable outcome. Nobody was able to win both finals in his class, which proves how high the level of competition has become in international karting. This is precisely what made uncertainty the key factor of each race, playing out as a stunning show of passes, oneeighties, frontal impacts and incredible recoveries. The winners should be truly satisfied, knowing they have really earned their trophy.

Le Finali di tutte le categorie hanno avuto un tema costante: il loro esito non è stato mai scontato. A ribadire questo concetto c’è il dato che nessun pilota è riuscito a vincerle entrambe, ciò denota come il livello della competizione abbia raggiunto un valore veramente elevato. Proprio per questi motivi ogni gara ha fatto dell’incertezza la sua compagna di viaggio: si sono visti sorpassi, testacoda, ribaltamenti di fronte e incredibili rimonte. Chi ha vinto può essere, quindi, veramente soddisfatto, perché consapevole di esserselo meritato.
