Owner Sam Walker says she is over the moon with the accolade.

“I’ve always admired the Christmas trees at the airport because they’ve been doing it for seven years and previously my Mum who was the chief executive of the former CCS - Crippled Children’s Society, used to decorate trees at Te Papa,” she says.

Sam says she wanted her students to decorate a tree in their own way.

“We’re a small art school for kids in Ngaio but I thought it would be a great opportunity for the kids to be creative.

“The thing that sums up Sam’s Art House is an element of chaos,” she says.

“We are big on process rather than the end result.

“I said to the kids that they could create any kind of decoration they want.

“I said I didn’t mind what they made as long as it was colourful.

“I ended up with 300 decorations and I was determined they’d all be on the tree.

“I thought it was the most over-the-top, chaotic Christmas tree.

“When we found out we won, when they called our name, I couldn’t believe it, I had to wait to hear it again,” Sam says.

“I was gobsmacked, absolutely blown away,” she says.

It was that colour which won them the overall award.

Sam says the cystic fibrosis cause was an important one to her, especially in her previous role as a health counsellor within the hospital system.

“It was a bit of fun, a good cause and a bit of Christmas spirit and I thought we all needed a bit of that over the past couple of years.

“I’ve gone from having 10 students when I knew their first names to now having 150 students through the doors each week with tutors for specific classes so the business has grown far more than even I thought it would,” she says.

The Christmas Trees will be at the airport on display until January 9.

Lions sizzle 20,000 sausages Last week Johnsonville Lions Club president Colin Rhodes, and Lion Lirong Rhodes were delighted to present a ‘cheque’ for $10,000 to fund the purchase of two $5,000 special beds for the new Regional Children’s Hospital, Te Wao Nui. Johnsonville Lions had earlier donated $15,000 towards the Wellington Hospitals Foundation Playscape project as part of Wellington regional Lions Clubs collectively raising $500,000.

The Playscape is a specially designed area to help rehabilitate children at the hospital.

Johnsonville Lions members have sold 20,000 sausages at their sausage sizzles outside Countdown supermarket over the last 18 months.

They also raised funds with a quiz night at the 1841 Bar, and two fashion parades at Ballantynes.

“We look forward to restarting our sausage sizzles in the new year”, said President Colin “and using funds raised to further assist our community.”

Colin says he is delighted that local community support has enabled these contributions to help the assist development of

Commemorative WWII presented to Wellington A commemorative book honouring four WWII Wellington Airman has been presented to Wellington City by Harrogate; a sister city with the capital since 1953.

Located in North Yorkshire, England, Harrogate is home to Stonefall Cemetery, one of the largest Commonwealth War Graves Commission sites in the North of England.

In 1954, a New Zealand Garden was created with plants given by Wellington as a memorial to the 23 WWII New Zealand airmen buried

Janryll Fernandez appointed to Tawa Community Board Janryll Fernandez has been appointed as a member of the Tawa Community Board, replacing Malcolm Alexander who resigned in October.

The appointment, on 2 December, was made under the Local Electoral Act - a by-election was not required.

Janryll says he is thrilled to

be able to serve the Tawa community. “Tawa is one of Wellington’s fastest-growing areas and it is important that Wellington City Council knows the views, aspirations and issues facing our increasingly diverse community.

“People are the heart of our community. We all want Tawa to be a safe and vibrant place for

On Monday, 65 members and guests met at the Wilton Bowling Club to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Probus Club of Karori.

It was a happy collection of friends, some new and some old, but all determined to enjoy themselves after not knowing until very recently whether the lunch would go ahead because of Covid restrictions.

Good food, cheerful chatter, lively table companions and even the weather behaved, with the sun coming out from behind the rain clouds behind which it had been lurking for several days.

Two Probus Ambassadors were guests, one of whom was part of the team originally tasked with getting the club established.

One member had made two cakes. One with icing and copious amounts of brandy, one without. Both were greatly admired and appreciated by all.

The cake was cut by the President and Heather Montgomery, not the oldest, as she loudly proclaimed, but the longest serving club member and ex-president.

Transmission Gully builder will not achieve pre-Christmas opening Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency says Wellington Gateway Partnership (WGP) and CPB HEB Joint Venture, the builder contracted to deliver the Transmission Gully project, have run out of time to complete all of the tasks necessary for the road to open in time for Christmas.

“We have been pushing very hard for the Transmission Gully motorway to open to the public as soon as possible and we made our expectations clear to WGP and CPB HEB that we wanted this to be before Christmas. With many outstanding issues yet to be addressed, tests to be met and consent tasks to complete, there is a lack of sufficient assurance that road opening pre-Christmas is achievable,” says Waka Kotahi Board Chair Sir Brian Roche.

“We are extremely disappointed that the road will not be open before the Christmas holidays. Like everyone else, we are frustrated by the delays and lack of certainty about when the road will be able to open and while we can’t yet say when it will be, we can be certain that it won’t be this year. It may in fact be some time before all the safety and quality assurance tests required in the contract are met,” Sir Brian says.

Transport Services Brett Gliddon says achieving a pre-Christmas opening has been dependent on the road’s builder, CPB HEB, meeting the contractually agreed requirements to ensure the road is safe for motorists and completed to a high standard. An Independent Reviewer was appointed by both Public Private Partnership (PPP) parties, Waka Kotahi and WGP, to check the tests have been met.

Under the terms of the PPP contract, road opening is decided

by WGP and advice that the Independent Reviewer is satisfied that all safety and quality assurance tests have been met. Building a road that meets these tests is the responsibility of WGP and its subcontractor CPB HEB. “Based on the information we have, and advice from the Independent Reviewer, we do not have sufficient assurance that all the tasks still needing to be finished to ensure the road is safe and reliable on an enduring basis, can be completed between now and Christmas,” Mr Gliddon says.

Out of 100 safety and quality assurance tests that need to be met before the road can safely and legally open, as at 10 December 2021 41 final test submissions have been received from CPB HEB, of which 34 have been accepted by the

Independent Reviewer as meeting the required specifications.

Of the 45 consent tasks that need to be complete in order for the road to open – as at 3 December 2021, 17 have been completed, 26 are underway and have been progressed to varying degrees and two are not yet started. Some of these are well advanced and will be completed soon, however a fully functioning stormwater system, capable of treating road run-off water to the required standard must be operational for road opening.

“Waka Kotahi has been working with WGP and CPB HEB to determine how best to address some of the outstanding issues in order to get the road open to the public as quickly as possible while ensuring the enduring safety and quality of the road is not compromised,” Mr Gliddon says.

“An update will be provided once those discussions have concluded, and we have a clear way forward.”

The road was due to open by 27 September 2021, following an agreement for additional time and compensation due to delays caused by the Covid-19 lockdown in 2020.

There was already significant risk that WGP and CPB HEB were not going to meet this date prior to the August 2021 lockdown.

progressing since the site was reopened after the August 2021 lockdown. Waka Kotahi is currently in commercial discussions to determine how much of the delay is due to the most recent lockdown and other Covid-19 restrictions, and the financial implications of this.

As the PPP contractor for Transmission Gully, WGP has subcontracted CPB HEB to undertake the motorway’s design and construction. Once the road is open the PPP contract will move into the service phase. Ventia will operate and maintain the motorway for 25 years, after which it will be handed over to Waka Kotahi at an agreed

standard.

PPP agreements are a different model to what has been used for all previous roading projects in New Zealand.

“Transmission Gully is New Zealand’s first transport infrastructure project being delivered under a PPP. The terms of the contract are very strict, both for the build phase and the operation and maintenance of the road. This is how we ensure we are getting what we are paying for in terms of quality, safety and performance over the period of the contract. At the end of the 25-year operating period, the road passes to Waka Kotahi,” Mr Gliddon says

Capital scores an ‘A’ for climate action Wellington is one of 95 cities worldwide to receive a top score on climate action from environmental disclosure organisation, CDP. CDP is a global non-profit that runs the world’s environmental disclosure system for companies, cities, states and regions.

This year, Wellington has been recognised for taking leadership on environmental action and transparency, despite the continued

pressures of dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.

To achieve a top score, a city must meet strict criteria including publicly disclosing climate data, having a city-wide emissions inventory and an emissions reduction target. ‘A’ list cities must also have a published climate action plan.

Less than one in ten cities (9.8 percent) assessed in 2021 received an ‘A’.

Cities like Wellington are demonstrating climate leadership through concerted action and showing urgent and impactful climate action is achievable at a global level. However, this action needs to go further and faster to meet the new targets agreed at COP26, which is one of the reasons Wellington City Council recently increased the city’s reduction target to 57 percent between 2020 and 2030.

The Wellington City Council’s emissions reduction plan focuses on transport and

urban form, building energy, advocacy, and the Council itself. Almost $30 million has been allocated to climate action initiatives over the next decade, on top of the $226 million investment in cycleways and the zero- and low-carbon transport options planned by Let’s Get Wellington Moving.

Wellington City Council belongs to numerous international climate action initiatives including the 100 Resilient Cities Network,the Global Covenant of Mayors and the Race to Zero campaign.

The capital is one of this year’s top 50 cities in the Bloomberg Global Mayors Challenge and earlier this year was named the number one city worldwide for environmental security in the Economist’s Safe Cities Index 2021, which considers how the city has incorporated sustainability parameters into its urban planning to reduce carbon emissions and manage climate risks.

Helping each other through COVID-19 With more cases of COVID-19 in the community, it’s possible you and your whānau will be exposed to the virus. To make sure you’re ready, have a plan in case you or someone in your house tests positive and needs to isolate.

Everyone who tests positive for COVID-19, and those who live with them, will need to isolate for at least 10 days to stop the spread of the virus. If someone else in your house tests positive for COVID-19, they’ll be advised how much longer they need to isolate.

If you’re travelling and away from home, know how you will get home or self isolate where you are.

It’s normal to feel anxious about isolating with COVID-19.

While isolating, you will need to have all of your food and necessities delivered. You cannot go to work, school, church or any community or private events or gatherings. No one outside of the people you live with can visit or enter the home.

Most fully-vaccinated people with COVID-19 are likely to have a mild to moderate illness and will fully recover at home.

Who can help out Be prepared in case you’re exposed to COVID-19. Speak with a neighbour, friend, or whānau about the support you could need. For instance, dropping off food and supplies, and help with activities outside the house. Being ready is about people, conversations, connections and knowing what to do, so your whānau and community can help each other when needed.

You’ll have a support person who will contact you often to check that you and your whānau are safe and supported – even if you’re travelling and away from home. You will also get a telephone number for 24-hour health support.

If you need more help or support to manage at home, you can access a COVID-19 welfare line.

GARDENING THIS WEEK What to plant: By Wally Richards I was asked the question this week about what we should be planting vegetable wise at this time of the year.

A lot depends on how much room you have and how keen you are on growing your own vegetables.

If you are fortunate and have a good size section such as quarter an acre then you can be fairly self VX൶ FLHQW LQ IUHVK SURGXFH If you have only a little land around your home then you have to be innovative with your limitations.

There are some nice planters you can purchase such as on Trade Tested 150 litre and 112 litre made from durable plastic at reasonable prices.

These can be sat on concrete or at the edge of the lawn or where a garden used to be.

Place weedmat under them where ever you choose to put them.

I have several of these which arULYHG LQ D À DW SDFN DQG ZHUH HDV\ to assemble.

Filled two thirds full with compost (I prefer Daltons Compost) and then I spread the likes of chicken manure (or any animal manures).

Blood & Bone along with Wallys Calcium & Health, Wallys BioPhos, Wallys Unlocking your Soil and Wallys Ocean Solids mean your vegetables will have all the nutrients, minerals and trace element that they would like. That means the produce will be super KHDOWK\ KDYH PDUYHOORXV À DYRXU and be so good for your immune

system.

Over the top of the goodies you put a further layer of compost about 4cm thick.

It is into this layer that you can plant seeds or seedlings.

With the longest day of the year next week we have optimum hours of daylight for growing.

You should have salad crops currently growing and harvesting as they mature such as lettuce, radish, spinach, silverbeet, spring onions etc.

The key here is to have small plantings every 2-3 weeks so you will have succession crops for harvesting.

For instance you might plant 4-6 lettuce plants now and in about 3-4 weeks another 4-6. :KHQ WKH ¿ UVW ORW DUH EHLQJ KDU vested you plant the third lot and that will take you well into winter EHIRUH \RX ¿ QG WKDW WKH ORZ GD\ light hours take much longer to mature the plants.

You can progressively harvest the larger outside leaves and let the plant grow more leaves.

Silver beet is a great one for this type of harvesting.

Now here is a little secret that you can use when you buy a punnet or cell pack that has many seedlings, much more than you want to plant at one time.

Before you try to separate them put the punnet into a bucket of water and after it has finished bubbling remove all the seedlings

from the plastic.

Now working underwater you can VHSDUDWH R൵ WKH QXPEHU RI SODQWV you wish to plant.

Only take the bigger more developed plants and plant them.

You are left with one or more clumps of seedlings so rather than throw them away plant into the soil as a clump.

Because they are over crowded they will hold and not grow much.

In two weeks time you can lift the clump and under water separate those you wish to plant.

This can be repeated a few times before the seedlings become too stressed and not worth planting.

'HFHPEHU LV DOVR WKH ¿ UVW PRQWK to plant your winter crops of brassicas.

The six packs that have two FDEEDJH WZR FDXOLÀ RZHUV DQG WZR broccoli are ideal for succession planting so about every two weeks you plant another lot.

The last month for planting these winter crops would be end of March.

If you have ample land and grow potatoes for Christmas or storage then likely the early crops will have been harvested or ready to harvest soon.

It pays to either bandicoot a few potatoes out from under the plants to determine size and health.

If you don’t feel any good size tubers under the plants then lift one or two and if only small marble size potatoes are found and they are re-

shooting then you have had attacks from the potato psyllids.

If the tubers are of good size then cut one in half to inspect the inside for dark rings; if found then the crop is ruined from psyllid attacks.

If neither of these problems exist then harvest your crop as soon as possible so you do not lose good potatoes to late attacks.

If you do not want to lift then cut WKH WRSV R൵ DQG FRYHU WKH VWXEEOH VR the psyllids have nothing to destroy.

My thoughts are lift crop and use that ground after applying more goodies for planting up winter crops.

Root crops such as carrots, parsnips, onions and beetroot can be planted by sowing seeds into loose fertile soil.

Sprinkle the seeds into a furrow or broadcast over a square metre, spray the seeds with Magic Botanic Liquid before covering to speed up

germination.

Keep moist by regular waterings.

Later on when you have a good strike you can thin out the planting to give the bigger better plants more room to develop.

Root crops are always best grown from seeds, especially carrots and parsnips as they do not transplant well, and you only get short stubby carrots to harvest. ,W LV DOVR D JRRG LGHD WR VWDUW R൵ D couple of tomato plants now.

If you can’t purchase then grow from the laterals you are removing from your existing plants.

Now is about the last chance to grow heat loving plants such as capsicum, chili, egg plants, cucumbers, pumpkins.

All of which are gross feeders so you could not only use Wallys Secret Tomato Food but also a drink every week of Wallys Liquid Plant food.

HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE (HYPERTENSION) When you think of blood pressure, think of water in a hosepipe. A certain amount of pressure is required to get water from a hosepipe so in the same way it’s important for us to have blood pressure so that blood can be circulated around our body.

The first published measurement of blood pressure was made in the 18th century, although it wasn’t until about a hundred years later that it was suggested that high blood pressure could be the cause of disease.

High blood pressure, also known as hypertension may eventually cause health problems such as heart disease, stroke, heart failure and kidney failure.

During the course of the day our blood pressure goes up and down depending on a number of things, including what we are doing, how busy or how stressed we are, our physical activity and also the amount of caffeine, alcohol and tobacco being taken.

Therefore when measuring blood pressure it means that several readings may need to be taken.

People are considered to have high blood pressure when repeated measurements show a raised reading above a certain level and stays at a higher level even when they are relaxed and sitting quietly.

The problem with high blood pressure is that often people do not experience any symptoms at all and feel quite well, until the blood pressure is very high and causing other health issues. This is why it is important to have your blood pressure checked regularly.

This can be done by your pharmacist, doctor or nurse. Blood pressure should be measured at least once a year if you are over 40 years of age, or more often if you already have high blood pressure.

There is no such thing as one “normal” blood pressure measurement, but there is a range which is considered desirable.

When your blood pressure is measured two readings will be obtained. If the lower of these two readings (the diastolic pressure) is greater than 90, then treatment may be recommended.

The upper reading (systolic pressure) is usually over 100, but varies and usually increases with age. A few people with early-stage hypertension may experience dull headaches, dizzy spells or nosebleeds.

However these symptoms generally don’t occur until hypertension has reached an advanced stage. The only way a person can find out if their blood pressure is high

For 90-95% of adults with high blood pressure, the cause is not known and high blood pressure tends to gradually develop over many years.

Some people are at higher risk of high blood pressure because of their age, their race and their family history, all risk factors which cannot be changed.

However there are other risk factors which can be changed and these include being overweight, doing very little exercise, smoking, alcohol consumption, salt intake and stress.

High blood pressure can’t be cured, but it can be controlled. For all of us this means a healthy lifestyle and for some it also means taking medicines as well.

There are a number of different medicines currently available and these medicines generally have to be taken every day on a regular basis and it is important not to miss taking any of them.

Tom Knowles to unleash his inner-Shrek in national tour Blenheim’s Tom Knowles will transform into famed swamp-dwelling ogre Shrek when the musical based on the smash movie franchise tours New Zealand next year.

Tom, who earlier this year produced his own play ‘Atarangi: Morning Sky’ using students from his former school Bohally Intermediate, described the role as “a dream come true”.

Based on the The Academy Award-winning animated film Shrek, the hilarious story of everyone’s favourite ogre will be brought to life on stage at the Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre in Auckland in the April school holidays followed by seasons in Hamilton at Clarence Street Theatre, Christchurch’s iconic Isaac Theatre Royal then Wellington’s St James Theatre in October.

Producer Layton Lillas says the show will be family-friendly in every way.

“All of my productions are designed to be accessible for as many people as possible. I love to see kids being introduced to theatre at a really high level, but I also know being a Dad to a seven-year-old that asking

them to sit through two and a half hours is just too much.

“Our version of Shrek The Musical features a talented professional cast of 14 actors,” he says.

“The set alone is worth over $1 million and was used on both the UK and Australian tours, and a dragon that has its own 40 foot shipping container.

“Believe me everyone who comes will be blown away.”

Shrek the Musical has been enjoyed by audiences around the world since 2008, having toured Australia, the US, UK, Asia, Canada, South America and Scandinavia among others.

Showcase Entertainment Group is producing the TYA (Theatre For Younger Audiences) version of the show, with a running time of approximately 75 minutes.

If you find mould on your curtains, check your ventilation and dehumidifying processes are working well. s Bulged Timber: This is more relevant for older properties, but as timber absorbs moisture it expands, so look for bulged skirting, window frames, etc. s Exterior Cracks/Gaps: Water has a wonderful ability to work its way through even the tiniest cracks/gaps. With Wellington’s harsh wind & rain, make sure you keep your exterior well painted / sealed. s Damp Smells: If you live on a hill, water will flow down and under your house.

If you have rooms that are up against a hill – you may notice a damp smell. Make sure you check your drainage is clear and the waterproofing is sound. s Water Pooling: water should drain or

divert away from the property, if you notice water pooling near / around your property check that your drains & channels are cleared. s Gutters: Look for dripping from the gutter, overtime if debris builds up in your gutters, it can put a lot of strain on the joins Yes we can get some extreme wind and weather here, but don’t be alarmed if you find a leak. It doesn’t mean your house is broken, but it does mean you may have neglected some key maintenance tasks for your property.

Grading work starts on Owhiro Bay to protect assets Work has begun in ƿZhiro Bay to complete the trial of beach grading by removing material posing significant risk to the area during storms and big swells.

The trial will monitor the impact grading has on minimising the risk to road assets from a build-up of gravel material causing heavy waves to surge over the road during severe weather-related incidents.

Council will then evaluate the benefits of grading as a proactive mitigation measure in the future.

This work means sections of the beach will

be closed while machinery is operational in the area for health and safety reasons.

Helston Road play area renewal Wellington City Council is renewing the Helston Road play area in Paparangi.

The proposed concept plan includes a senior module with a wave slide and two climbing walls, a monkey bar, radial twister net, seesaw, and balance beam.

It will also have a junior module with curbed slide fun disk for spinning, swings with a toddler seat and belt seat basket swing.

It will also look at retaining the existing Kompan climbing unit, synthetic surfaces and paths to connect to much of the equipment, to enhance accessibility.

Wellington claim the NZ women’s golf title The Wellington women’s golf team can claim the title as national champions after beating Canterbury in the final at the Timaru Golf Club.

Led by number one Darae Chung who had two comfortable victories today, the team from the capital city won 3 ½ - 1 ½ in the final.

However, to get to the final both teams endured tense morning semi-finals with both matches coming down to the wire.

Wellington saw off a tough Manawatu-Wanganui 3-2 with Danika Lee crucially coming back in her match against Casey Chettleburgh to win on the final hole and send Wellington through.

The other semi-final between Canterbury and the Bay of Plenty was even more tense. Bay of Plenty had been the form team all week and were unbeaten heading into the final day, but Canterbury bounced back strongly after losing their final two pool matches to turn the tables on the tournament favourites.

With the first four matches finished and two wins to each team, attention turned to number 4s Rachel Elder

(Canterbury) and Heather Keefe (Bay of Plenty) who were all square playing the last. They couldn’t be separated after 18 holes so had to continue their match heading down the first.

A par on the hole was enough for Elder to send Canterbury through.

With attention turning to the final, Wellington got off to a great start with number 5 Dakota-Jolee Asi giving the team early momentum moving to 4 up through the first ten holes.

While the matches in the middle of the order remained close at the top of the order Darae Chung jumped out to a big lead on the front 9 to make the turn 6 up. She kept her foot down on the back down and closed things out with a birdie on the 12th hole to win 8&6.

Canterbury refused to give up and Melissa Newburn and morning hero Rachel Elder mounted comebacks against their Wellington opposition.

Newburn playing against rookie Dakota-Jolee Asi managed to get one down with one to play while Elder was 1 up playing the last.

Newburn had a 12ft par putt to halve her match, but it slid past handing the spoils to Wellington.

Wellington number one Chung, who was named player of the tournament enjoyed the team aspect of the week saying “ I feel like this week is more precious because we are playing for each other as a team and I think in that sense there is this wonderful unity, everyone is supporting each other wholeheartedly and I really like that.”

“This week I was really steady trying to make a lot of pars, but I did manage to make a lot of birdies.

The course was in such amazing condition as well.” She added.

Wellington Golf General Manager Steve Weir who was down with the team for the week echoed Chung’s sense of team unity.

“We had a super group of six girls, who consider themselves a team of six, not five players and a reserve and they played really well in the back

end of the week.”

“They are young adults but in some sense, senior golfers who have fantastic team spirit and really genuinely play for each other.” He added.

After being together for five years the team knew this was their last chance for victory together with many of the team heading overseas in 2022. They took that last chance with both hands and can now call themselves national champions.

Spinners get Johnsonville to top spot Lifestyle Sports

Johnsonville have climbed to the top of the Ewen Chatfield 50-over cricket competition ladder following a 32-run rain-affected win over Upper Hutt United at Alex Moore Park on Saturday.

Johnsonville’s batsmen continued to make starts but also continued to fail to make a big score as they posted 204 for 7 from their 50 overs.

Upper Hutt’s chase was reduced to 40 overs.

At 85 for 1 they appeared to be cruising before the spin trio of Jeremy Benton (one for 27 from eight overs), Connor Lusty (three for 31 from eight overs) and Raki Weeerasundara (three for eight from 2.5 overs) helped bowl then out for 135.

Raki says the success with the slow bowlers is not how they usually structure their bowling effort but it worked well in the conditions.

“Usually we have relied on our good seam attack to get early wickets but to have to spinners to call on to do a job and for me to chip-in at the end worked well.”

He says Upper Hutt looked in control at times and his team was forced to dig deep.

“We got an acceptable total to defend but I think our bowlers stuck to the task well.

Opener Devan Vishvaka top-scored for Johnsonville with 39 when six batsmen got to 22.

It was the late hitting of Josh Mann, 38 off 24 balls, which pushed Johnsonville over 200.

Raki says the batsmen know they need to go on and get a big score but he admitted, as a group, they had to be better.

Johnsonville leads the competition after six rounds, with the top two teams making the final after round 10 on January 24.

In other matches; Eastern Suburbs beat Onslow by 124 runs at Kilbirnie Park and the match between Taita and Karori was abandoned due to rain.

The Scottish Night of Miles track and field event will be at Newtown Park, on Saturday.

The event is a unique event full of Christmas fun and features races over the rarely run distance of one mile.

Each year the Wellington Scottish Athletics Club collects donations from athletes and spectators then hands them on to a local Wellington charity.

The 2021 charity is the Mary Potter Hospice.
