It is the second time Chris had won the award after he was part of the band The Funky Monkeys in 2008.

“I wasn’t expecting to win because of the quality of competition but I was surprised and delighted.”

“This really feels like a Johnsonville award for me because I grew up here, I went to Johnsonville West, I went to Raroa, I went to Onslow and at all three schools I had teachers who encouraged me to pursue music so to bring it back here just feels right.”

Chris turns Covid lockdown into creative haven “It’s lovely to have industry recognition and a bit of a pat on the back.

“I’ve been making entertaining content for children for more than 20 years and it’s nice to know that it is being seen and enjoyed.”

Chris says the recognition validated his effort during the lockdowns.

“I sat in my Johnsonville studio and wrote that song as part of my album called Silly Funny Songs for Kids and released it during the pandemic and so it was a lovely moment to have recognition for that work which was during a difficult time creatively.”

Chris says he respects the effort of Mukpuddy Animation for bringing his song to life visually through their animations.

“I feel very grateful they have taken a shine to my work.”

Chris says he is aware once he releases a song during this digital age that it will live on forever.

“That brings me a lot of joy knowing my work will entertain kids for years to come. “ He says he often involves his three children as his initial audience to get feedback on his songs.

“They’re honest and they give me good feedback even if some-

times I don’t always agree,” he laughs.

“Winning awards like this is like gas in the tank for me,” he says. “It does motivate me to do more and I have received funding from New Zealand on Air to create some Christmas songs which I’m currently working on and will be released later this year.”

Television personality Suzy Cato has signed on to be part of the project.

“I’m a Christmas super fan so it’s an ideal project for me,” Chris says.

Chris says he is starting to get more bookings for live shows and will be performing at Te Papa over the next few months and will be working as MC for the Symphony in Hutt concert tomorrow.

“Getting back out there in front of crowds gives me confidence that we may be getting back to some sort of normal,” Chris says.

The NZ Children’s Music Awards are an annual presentation celebrating music written for Kiwi kids. They include the APRA Best Children’s Song, the Recorded Music NZ Te Kaipuoro Waiata Tamariki Toa/ Best Children’s Music Artist, and NZ On Air Best Children’s Music Video awards.

Wellington City welcomes Budget housing announcement Last week’s Budget announcement regarding interim Government Income-Related Rent Subsidy (IRRS) funding for new, eligible tenants of a Community Housing Provider is great news for the Capital City, says Mayor Andy Foster.

Mayor Foster says Wellington City Council has been working closely with the Government on its social housing challenges. “(The) announcement is an important first step in our work to put Wellington’s social housing back on a sustainable footing by providing more affordable rents for new, eligible Community Housing Provider tenants over time.

“We know getting back to a sustainable position will take time and there is more to do. The Council is committed to being a strong contributor to social and affordable housing in Wellington over the long-term. We are also committed to continue to work with the Crown and other part-

ners to improve outcomes for our tenants and add to housing supply which is critically needed.

Pnjroro Rangaranga Social, Cultural and Economic Committee Chair Councillor Jill Day says the Council is currently consulting on whether it should establish a Community Housing Provider model and initial community feedback shows strong support.

“The Council wants to hear from the community on this important issue and we are pleased to have received a large number of submissions already. The Council will consider all this feedback in making its decision.

Importantly, the announcement today puts us in the position to be able to establish a Community Housing Provider, subject to the outcomes of consultation and the Council’s decision.”

Mayor Foster says the partnership with the Crown is important to the Council.

An area of council owned bush between Izard and Jubilee Roads, in Khandallah has been transformed into a mini park and recreational area.

It was previously overgrown and a depository for rubbish, but has been cleared and landscaped thanks to the efforts of local resident Debbie Earl She was assisted by members of her family, the Onslow Garden Club and neighbours.

The mini park with seating to be provided by the Wellington City Council, and brick paving, set amongst native trees and birdlife is adjacent to a much used pathway providing entrance to Cashmere Primary School.

Debbie says the intention is to provide a small park area where waiting parents and children can congregate and play and as a rest or meeting area for residents.

Ohariu MP, Greg O’Connnor, on visiting with Debbie and her family says the area will be a valuable asset.

“As local MP and a local resident, I have experienced myself the impact of opening up this previously overgrown and inaccessible land.

“The hard-working group who opened this reserve have given the Cashmere Avenue students and parents in particular, not only improved access to the school, but also a much more attractive area to share with other residents. Well done to all involved.”

Update on Capital & Coast DHB Wellington ED facility Capital & Coast DHB says people can remain confident they will continue to receive safe and high quality emergency care when they need it, as plans are made to relocate Te Pae Tiaki Wellington ED to a larger space within the Wellington Regional Hospital building.

2DHB Chief Executive Fionnagh Dougan has acknowledged seismic and other challenges for the current facility and says active planning is underway to relocate the ED to a more fit-for-purpose area.

“The existing ED was built in 1999, and extended in 2004.

Since then we have experienced significantly increased demand for services – often from patients with complex needs – and the size and layout of our ED is no longer

fit for purpose,” said 2DHB Chief Executive Fionnagh Dougan.

“These challenges facing ED are not new and have been reported on numerous occasions. People and whƗQau presenting to ED currently have a poor experience with high wait times, can receive care in less appropriate settings, and often wait much longer than we intend.

“Our ongoing programme to assess our hospital facilities and infrastructure has also identified that ED has a 34% NBS (IL4) rating – signalling an earthquake risk, rather than earthquake-prone – which may prevent it from operating fully as normal following a one in 500-year seismic event.

“While our caring and dedicated ED staff strive to deliver safe and

Stop the Council’s War on Wellington Vote Barbara McKenzie for Mayor of Wellington Wellington City Council is on track to make radical changes to our electoral system, traditional rights, way of life and the shape of our city largely without proper notice or consultation. The changes are driven by imported ideologies not embraced or understood by the majority of Wellingtonians.

Council grants million dollar boost to the capital Wellington City Council has approved a massive $1.2 million for 82 grant recipients plus 60 multi-year contracts across nine different funds in this week’s KƗwai Whakatipu – Grants Subcommittee.

Council will fund 60 organisations through multi-year contracts across the arts and delivering on social wellbeing, including the citywide network of community centres, our major arts partners delivering Aho Tini, key harm reduction and safety delivery organisations like RespectEd, Take 10 and the Surf Lifesaving service that runs every summer on Oriental and Lyall Bays, and the Wellington Free ambulance service.

These grants will give community groups much-needed certainty about Council’s support going forward says Chair Councillor Fleur Fitzsimons.

“It’s been an ‘up and down’ few years, so providing a stable financial foundation for these organisations means they can focus on the big picture and plan ahead confidently.

“Residents will benefit from the work of these organisations in helping us reduce emissions, by supporting our artists, and by improving social cohesion in Wellington.”

Mayor Andy Foster says collectively these organisations provide tremendous value to the city.

“Their work ensures the heartbeat of Wellington is strong by helping make our city an enjoyable, safe and inclusive city – something that is needed more than ever as we rebound from the pandemic.”

An initiative of Te Atakura – First to Zero, the $250,000 per annum Climate and Sustainability Fund supports communities and businesses to take climate action initiatives that reduce and/or support the reduction of carbon emissions.

In its second round, the new Climate and Sustainability Fund approved funding of $75,750 to ReBicycle to support two pilots aimed at increasing e-bike accessibility and a container workshop for their new site at South Wellington Intermediate School.

The first pilot is an e-cargobike library, which will give Wellingtonians access to

a longer trial of an e-cargobike, along with resources and support.

The second is for a low-cost lease-to-buy scheme for converted e-bikes, aiming to make low-cost e-bikes available to people on low incomes, helping to achieve more equitable access to climate change action, and delivering many co-benefits for users and our city.

The new container workshop will provide their volunteers with a sheltered area in which to fix and convert bikes and store parts and equipment, enabling them to expand their work addressing transport poverty and increasing the accessibility of climate-friendly transport options across our community.

These projects tick all the boxes for the criteria in this fund, says Mayor Foster.

“Cost is one key barrier in the uptake of e-bike usage, and this pilot will give low-income families better access to this travel option, with the environmental, financial and health benefits that go with it.

“Upcycling of cycles is another positive element, as it reduces waste by diverting old bikes from landfill, and gives them a new lease of life.”

EkeRua ReBicycle Trustee Hilleke Townsend says it’s all about getting bikes to people who need them, and to get the right bike for each individual.

“E-bikes are a game changer in making cycling accessible for people in all weather, and of all fitness levels, and at all stages of life. For tamariki, having the right colour means they fall in love with their bike. For some adults, they need to get up steep hills or be able to commute in all kinds of weather or carrying kids and cargo. This grant will enable us to make e-bikes more accessible for more people who need them.”

A Kaicycle project has been allocated $94,825 from the Waste Minimisation Seed Fund – Organics Diversion, to establish a new composting facility that will boost their organics processing capacity by 90-100 tonnes per annum, servicing approximately 500 new customers, and to develop a Living Compost Hubs app for customer and compost management.

Karori Garden Group gets creative The Karori Garden Group had a very pleasant and creative morning recently making terrariums, small gardens in glass containers. The workshop was ably led by a group member who was inspired by a Victorian terrarium she found in a local

op shop. Members used a variety of glass containers to create a wet terrarium, with ferns and moss, or a dry terrarium with succulents.

The Garden Group meets on the third Friday of the month at 10.00am, at the Karori Arts and

Wrights Hill Fortress to open for long weekend Wellington’s historic Wrights Hill Fortress in Karori will be reopening to the public on Queen’s Birthday, Monday June 6.

The World War Two coastal battery first opened to the public in 1989, and will be accessible between 10am and 4pm.

COVID 19 has caused cancellations over the past two years.

Please wear a mask inside, as directed by the Government under level orange.

On Queen’s Birthday, people are invited to self-guide themselves through the tunnels and gun emplacements.

The walk usually takes about one hour, so bring a torch with you for some fun.

Budget 2022 & Property? YIP! Hey Everyone! Winter is almost here, and this morning’s frost was a reminder to go through all your pre-winter checklists to get your home ready for the Wellington chill. If you need any advice just let me know. Last week the budget was announced and there were a few small things to note in regards to the property market. s Kiwisaver Caps: the cap for first home grant will be increased to $750k and for new builds up to $925k. The additional bonus here will help to a small extent towards cushioning the rising interest rates.

Plus! The price cap for first home loans is going completely. This will be a welcomed change as the previous cap were a bit low to be helpful in this area. s Cost of Living Payment: For those with an income of less than $70k/pa there will be a $27/week extra, although not much it potentially cover around another $50k of mortgage interest for the average couple looking for a first home. This small assistance will allow a little flexible when offering on properties. s New Affordable Housing Fund: It is proposed that there will be new affordable rentals to support families in areas facing the biggest housing challenges. Wellington Metro has been marked. Although this won’t directly affect prices in this area, it will however affect landlords even further.

Being a residential landlord is becoming a non-profitable business and with more than double the usual number of properties for rent and new ‘affordable’ options created by the government, it will certainly push even more landlords to exit property investing and increasing even more houses to an already oversupplied market.

As mentioned in last week’s article, we need to address the serious issue that a lot

of homeowners / investors are facing in this market where selling is difficult, staying is unaffordable and renting out is not profitable. We as a country needs rentals/ landlords and it needs to be worthwhile to invest in property. Rent prices need to be affordable, and if you do the math on a residential investment, it simply is not worth being a landlord now.

The property market we are in is not sustainable and something has to give. If Banks, Government, Reserve Bank, etc fail to address the issues, the pressures on rent & house prices will continue - causing further stress to our community. Rotarians guide the way for Ngaio School cross country races It is the season for school cross country races and the Rotary Club of Wellington North had members out on the job helping things run smoothly at Ngaio School last week.

Junior school races, on a course constrained to the grounds were scheduled first, but a shower of rain intervened and these races were postponed until the next day.

The more hardy senior students braved the occasional shower and set off in class groups around a course which took in Bombay St., round past the abandoned Anglican church, through Ngaio Village and home via Colway St. For race participants, it’s critical to know where to go. They can’t do a good time if they get lost along the way.

Rotarians were acting as race marshals at key points to keep the competitors on the right track.

Because flat-out running is not for everyone the tail-end Charlie, Rotarian Lionel Nunns, himself a marathon runner, was there to see that any exhausted runners were brought home safely.

It’s these ones who often receive the biggest cheer at the end.

Rotarians were once best known for meeting for a meal, with a side line of donating to charity, all within protocols set out by Rotary International.

The rule book has now been cast aside with clubs able to structure themselves to best work with and serve their communities.

Refuges have begun transforming safe house rooms into spaces for tamariki, with books, toys, posters, and murals just for them. Wellington North has supported the cost of acquiring these resources.

An annual Greater Wellington initiative that encourages tamariki and their wKƗnau to walk or wheel to school, this year’s Movin’ March participants logged nearly 150,000 trips over thirty-one days says Kirsty Barr, Travel Choice Advisor at Greater Wellington.

“That’s huge, equating to nearly 82,000 kilometres or more than 36 journeys from Cape Reinga to Bluff, delivering great results for wellbeing and building awareness of the importance of reducing carbon emissions through limiting vehicle use.”

Trips are logged in students’ ‘passports’, as part of the WOW passport challenge where students receive a stamp for each walk or wheel trip to and from school. The more passports submitted the more chance a school has to win added Barr.

In a flurry of cards, winning schools all over the region were drawn by councillors, each school receiving a $400 MYRIDE voucher for their students to keep the

wheels rolling on their healthy travel habits.

Greater Wellington Councillor and Transport Committee Chair Roger Blakeley was one of those tossing the cards in the air during the draw.

“It’s a privilege to be involved in the draw and celebrate the thirteenth year of Greater Wellington encouraging and now celebrating tamariki and their wKƗnau for using active travel to get to school”.

While at participating schools, resources like walkability checklists, carbon calculators and journey mapping activities were also produced along with planet friendly spot prizes, something Cr. Blakeley said enabled young minds to connect in a fun way to bigger picture environmental issues.

“Students and the community absolutely embraced these important additions to the programme and in many cases, students lead the way with this new direction, understanding their travel choices are important for the climate.

“Mahi pai to all the students, schools and families who got involved this March, we hope to set another record next year,” adds Cr Blakeley.

WOUND CARE For many of us, wounds are a common part of everyday life, with accidents leading to cuts and scratches, grazes, lacerations, blisters and sometimes burns.

These can happen no matter how careful we are or how organised our homes or workplaces can be. A wound occurs when a physical injury to the body breaks the skin or a mucous membrane.

The body responds immediately and begins repairing the wound with the skin closing up and trying to return to normal as soon as possible. The time of repair may only be needed for a very short time and last for a matter of days or it may need to continue for weeks and months, depending on the type and size of the injury.

In the past many wounds have been “fixed” with a plaster, the multipurpose plastic dressing strip. These are fine for small scratches and cuts but there are now many more dressings available for the different types of wounds that can occur.

In the past it was believed that wounds should be kept dry but now it is recommended that to help a wound heal well it should be kept moist.

This is because a moist wound environment allows the skin cells to grow more quickly, thus healing and returning to normal in much less time.

The aim of wound care is to stop any bleeding, prevent infection and to restore the health of the tissue. With any wound once any bleeding is stopped it needs to be cleaned. If it is already a clean wound then warm running water or gauze soaked in saline is appropriate to be used.

Next dry the area and apply the dressing.

However if the wound is unclean and is contaminated with any dirt, gravel or foreign bodies then these need to be removed so that the wound does not become infected.

It is necessary in these cases to use an antiseptic to wash the area and remove unwanted particles and debris. Talk to your Self Care pharmacist about which antiseptics are available and how to use them.

It is important to try and prevent infection

from occurring but if the area of the wound becomes swollen, red, hot and angry then it may be infected and you will need to see your doctor regarding antibiotics.

Wounds caused by burns may occur due to sunlight, flames from fire, scalds, chemical or electrical sources. The affected area must be cooled immediately under cold running tap water for at least 20 to 30 minutes. The use of ice is not recommended in these cases.

Burns can be superficial affecting only the top surface layer of skin or can be much more serious affecting many layers of tissues.

Blisters should not be burst and fat, lotions or ointments should be avoided.

There are a number of life style factors that can help with wound healing such as 1) diet 2) exercise 3) medication 4) dressing type 5) warmth. Your diet can affect the speed of the healing process.

Foods associated with wound healing are protein, Vitamin C and Vitamin A and zinc and a diet enriched with these components in your diet can enhance wound healing.

Regular exercise increases blood flow, improves general health and also speeds wound healing.

Medication that affects wound healing includes anti-inflammatory drugs as these can interfere with the body’s natural healing process and hamper the action of immune system cells. Talk to your pharmacist about your medication to see if any that you are prescribed will hinder wound healing.

Wounds that are dressed and kept warm heal faster. Dressings also need to be kept clean so change as necessary, usually not every day but maybe every few days depending on its condition.

See your Self Care pharmacist about the many types of dressings that are available and the most appropriate one for a particular wound or for your first aid kit. Also ask for the Pharmacy Self Care “Wound Care” card to take home and share with the family.

Budget absence of new trains disappoints regional councils The Budget’s failure to contribute funding for a fleet of hybrid electric trains in the lower North Island has surprised and disappointed Greater Wellington and Horizons regional councils.

The trains, which are battery powered on non-electric track, were proposed by the councils in a business case paid for by Waka Kotahi.

Greater Wellington chair Daran Ponter and Horizons chair Rachel Keedwell said the government’s decision was, “Like the lights being turned off”.

“It’s especially disappointing for commuters and surprising for our councils. But we’re not giving up,” Cr Ponter says.

“When enacted, our business case will significantly reduce transport emissions while providing for population growth and the replace-

ment of aged rolling stock.”

Suppor t e d by Ma nawaW njWhanganui’s seven mayors, as well as the eight mayors of the Wellington region, the business case recommends a $762 million dollar investment in a fleet of 22 four-car, tri-mode trains, and associated infrastructure.

With funding commitments from Waka Kotahi, Horizons and Greater Wellington, $360 million was needed from the Budget to enable the full investment.

The business case estimates every dollar spent will yield $1.83.

It predicts the trains will quadruple peak-time services between Palmerston North and Wellington on the ManawaWnj line and double them between Masterton and the capital on the Wairarapa line.

Horizons chair Rachel Keedwell

said the government had turned its back on commuter wellbeing by not supporting New Zealand’s first low-emission long-distance rail services.

“Given this is a health and climate budget, it’s incomprehensible that these trains are not being funded,” Cr Keedwell says.

Palmerston North mayor Grant Smith and Horowhenua mayor Bernie Wanden agreed, calling the decision, “Incredibly disappointing” and, “A blind spot” of the budget.

Greater Wellington deputy chair and Wairarapa councillor Adrienne Staples said the government, “Is holding back livelihoods” in her community and delaying development.

“Commuters who work and do business in Wellington and Hutt cit-

ies desperately need better service from our regional rail network,” Cr Staples said.

“Off-peak services are almost non-existent. Half-price public transport fares are welcome, but they fly in the face of our current fleet of 50-year-old trains at the end of their working life.”

Her sentiments were shared by .Ɨpiti Coast councillor and Environment Committee chair Penny Gaylor, who said hybrid electric trains were, “An elegant solution to a dirty problem the government knows needs fixing”.

“A reliable, low-emissions rail service is the missing link for the increasing number of commuters living in KƗpiti, Horowhenua and ManawaWnj “Their access to employment in Wellington, Porirua and Palm-

erston North is being stymied by ancient trains that won’t last another five years. Businesses are being stifled by talk not turned into action.

While recent funding to upgrade Kiwirail’s Capital Connection carriages was encouraging, Cr Ponter said the hybrid electric trains should have been part of the budget’s suite of initiatives to reduce emissions.

“These trains will enable the Wellington region to grow around our transport hubs in a way that protects the climate,” Cr Ponter says.

“We will continue to work with the government to unlock existing funding for the purchase of these trains. We need to get the tender process under way in the coming financial year to prevent commuters from being squashed in like sardines in five years time.”

Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor at the Karori Community Centre. Eid is a time to share love and spirituality.

Muslims dress up in their best clothes, give charity, thank Allah (Swt) for His bounties and pray for peace and harmony for the world.

The Karori Community Centre has hosted and organised several interfaith events in the past, but this was the first time that Eid has been celebrated in such a large scale in Karori, the largest suburb of New Zealand.

The event took place on May 15 and was attended by 120 people from Hindu, Jewish, Christian and Muslim communities in and around Karori.

Eid, also known as ‘The Feast of Breaking the Fast’, is celebrated by Muslims worldwide to mark the end of Ramadan, month of fasting.

At this joyful event, learned scholars enlightened the audi-

ence about the purpose and significance of Eid. The list of honorable guests included Andy Foster, exGovernor General Sir Ananad Satyanand, the High Commissioner Pakistan Murad Ashraf Janjua, the High Commissioner to Malaysia Nur Izzah Wong Meechoo and councillors Simon Wolf and Diane Calvert.

The guests spoke about the importance of such events and how we can endeavor to bring about greater inclusion and understanding among different communities.

Newlands College got their hands on the Fair Play Cup after surviving a fierce comeback from Onslow College in their annual first XV rugby match, on Saturday.

Newlands prevailed 42-41 in an enthralling encounter.

Newlands raced out to a 42-10 lead thanks largely to 28 points from Ngahau Te Paa which included four tries.

Despite the massive deficit, Onslow came roaring back to score five tries in the final quarter to close the gap to a single point at the final whistle.

Blues no certainty in Super Rugby playoffs All roads go through Eden Park for the Super Rugby title but that doesn’t mean the Blues are unbeatable.

With one round remaining, The Blues will play the Highlanders in a quarter-final in a fortnight.

That will be a tough task for the men from the south, who have been better in the latter part of the season but lack the firepower of the Blues, who have been the best team all

season.

However, the Blues are not unbeatable.

Fans looking for hope only need to look at how the Brumbies out-muscled them for 80 minutes on Saturday in Canberra only for the visitors to be bailed-out by a Beauden Barrett drop goal after the final hooter for a 21-19 win.

The Hur ricanes, Chiefs or

Waratahs should take heart from the Brumbies effort.

The Crusaders have the championship pedigree and they won’t be shell-shocked at any point in the playoffs even if they’ve been below their best at times this season.

The media has been beating the drums for the Blues to win their first major title in 20 years and fair enough, they are our biggest city.

However, there is a lot of water to pass under that bridge before a champion is crowned and the Blues are anything but a sure thing.

Every team who faces them will be an underdog playing with less pressure.

Should the Crusaders face them in a likely final, the red and blacks will be an underdog which will be an unfamiliar position for the meas-

uring stick team of Super Rugby for the past 25 years.

Rest assured, Scott Robertson’s team would love to repeat the win that started their dynasty in 1998 at Eden Park, thank you James Kerr for that last-gasp try.

The Blues deserve to be favourites but handling the pressure and expectation will be no sure thing for Leon McDonald’s team.

Johnsonville end 24-year MSP drought

Johnsonville secured their first victory over Marist St Pats in 24 years when they triumphed 3633 at Helston Park on Saturday.

The Hawks were able to overcome a 13 point halftime deficit to pull off an improbable victory which re-ignited their top eight chances.

Coach Jason Adamson praised the team’s first half defence.

“I know we trailed but with the wind at our back in the second half, I thought we were in the game.

“We stopped three possible tries on our line in the first 40 and that was really important.”

Johnsonville had scored the first try of the game, attacking from a scrum 60 metres out.

Player of the Match halfback Sutton combined with openside flanker Dylan Selkirk to score the game’s first try to put Johnsonville up 7-0.

With the wind, MSP hit back with three consecutive tries of their own.

The first try followed almost a minute of concerted phase play inside Johnsonville’s 22, rightwing Isaia Petelo finishing. The second was scored by Wells, and the third try came off an attacking scrum under the posts, fullback Ryan Setefano injecting himself into the line and passing

to the left wing Hansiene Pama.

Johnsonville were able to come back in the second half thanks to tries from fullback Jacob Walmsley, winger Marzy Karim, centre Aukuso Tuitama and replacement forward Adney Roebeck.

Sutton finished with 14 points.

Adamson says he hoped the win would give his squad a lot of confidence heading into the final month of the Swindale Shield competition.

“To get a big scalp like that is big for us as a club and there was a lot of satisfaction there.

North Wellington let two goal lead slip

It’s an overdone cliché without doubt but it was still just as relevant when TFS North Wellington hosted Wellington United at Alex Moore Park in the Men’s Central Football League on Saturday.

In the game of two halves, Norths made a festival day of it and were up 2 -0 and looking very much the business after a glancing header to Ihaia Delaney at close range, six minutes from smoko.

This was followed by a sublime nudge in by Captain Gavin Hoy, two minutes before the tea was poured. Mission very much accomplished was no doubt the collective telepathic view of the North Wellington faithful and it was a delightful first half from the parochial perspective.

The visiting supporters were few and far between, but they very much enjoyed their own collective natural glow when United responded with two goals of their own in the 55th minute to Inigo Bronte Barea and the 63rd to Caleb Hilbron. United had clearly not followed the plot as a team in last place.

Their cause was aided when Norths ended up playing with 10 men again after a double yellow infringement with 20 minutes of regulation time still to

play. As both teams trudged off the paddock to enjoy the post-match speeches and lasagna, Wellington United were the happier of the two teams with the point in their 2 all draw.

The big square off between Miramar Rangers and Wellington Olympic was just that. Both teams traded goals in the first half and the same again in the second. The stalemate couldn’t be broken and both sides also took a point home from David Farrington Park in their 2 all draw.

In the other Saturday match, Wellington Phoenix Reserves got the solitary goal just before half time and recorded a 1 nil win over Waterside Karori.
