BOUTIQUE HOTEL CARUSO PLACE Boutique & Wellness Suites, welcomes its guests in a charming atmosphere, in the heart of Naples, a few steps from the Royal Palace and the S. Carlo Theater, in front of the Galleria Umberto I. The Boutique hotel is located inside the historic XVI Century Berio Palace, designed by (Luigi Vanvitelli 1700/1773) and known to be one of the most famous Neapolitan buildings. The owners, operators of the tourism and hotel sector have considered all traveler needs, giving life to a design hotel, where the love for tourism, the desire for relaxation and the Neapolitan tradition find a perfect synthesis between classic and modern. The hotel offers 10 spacious rooms, including 7 suites equipped with every modern comfort, wellness bathrooms and a cozy lounge where you can relax by the fireplace, cradled by the notes of an ancient Neapolitan melody. In the location harmoniously coexist refined materials and details of iconic style of Neapolitan taste: the tube radio and the gramophone, seem to have always been witnesses of a message, the musical that goes beyond the borders of nations as well as those who love to travel. The leitmotiv that led the realization of the project was the story of the Neapolitan song and the name CARUSO PLACE is a tribute to the great tenor Enrico Caruso to whom Naples was the birthplace.

HISTORICAL BUILDING BERIO PALACE (Luigi Vanvitelli 1700-1773) Berio Palace is an elegant building located in the heart of Naples, in Via Toledo at number 256 and takes its name from the Marquis Francesco Berio di Salsa, librettist of opera and poet. It was built in the sixteenth century on a project by Giulio Romano, pupil of Raffaello Sanzio, and commissioned by the Count of Mola, Simone Vaaz, financier of Portuguese origins, at the time president of the Royal Chamber of Sommaria. It was then rebuilt in the second half of the eighteenth century by Carlo Vanvitelli based on drawings by Luigi Vanvitelli. It is embellished in the courtyard by a fountain with a deer’s head. In ancient times it contained a hall for parties with a circular plan of about 1,000 seats and a theater with 1,600 seats on whose structure it is believed that the Augusteo Theater was built by Pier Luigi Nervi. In 1772 the duke Perrelli of Monasterace sold it to the Genoese patrician Giovan Domenico Berio di Salza. It was during this period, between the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, the palace was renowned for its library, among the most important in Naples, and the many works of art contained among which the group of Canova Adone and Venus. After 1820, the year of the death of the Marquis Giovan Domenico Berio, was divided into several parts by reason of the succession, since he had only daughters who were married to the dukes of Ascoli, the Counts Statella, the Marquis Imperiali and the dukes of San Cesareo. In 1922 part of the building was demolished to make way for the construction of the Piazzetta Augusteo and the Central Funicular.

NEAPOLITAN MUSIC Naples has played an important and vibrant music role over the centuries not just in Italy, but in the general history of western European musical traditions. The vitality of Neapolitan popular music from the late 19th century has made such songs as O’ sole Mio and Funiculi’ Funicula’ a permanent part of our musical consciousness. Naples was also the birthplace of the popular Neapolitan Opera Buffa and the San Carlo Theater, built in 1737, is one of the finest musical theaters in the world. The Neapolitan song became a formal institution in the 1830s through the vehicle of an annual song writing competition for the yearly Festival of Piedigrotta, dedicated to the Madonna of Piedigrotta, a well-known church in the Mergellina quarter of Naples. The winner of the first festival was a song entitled “Te voglio bene assaie”; it was composed by the prominent opera composer, Gaetano Donizetti. The most famous place, of course, to hear music in Naples is the San Carlo opera house, located right outside CARUSO PLACE. Besides being the home of the opera, San Carlo is the most frequent venue several times a year for large visiting orchestras. The largest public venue for music, parades, political rallies, installation art, New Year’s celebrations is Piazza Plebiscito, the spacious open square on the west side of the Royal Palace. Also this square is located few steps away from CARUSO PLACE.
