HOBBIES

Design allows us to show a creative story, how to make use of a space and perceive it’s own function. This is my opportunity to show the talent and ideas I have to offer for your company and who I am as a learner, achiever and innovator. My philosophy is to create and innovate new functional ideas to any given entity. To transfer a thought or sketch into real life construction. The possibilities through dedication, design and execution are limitless.

WORK Every project I have worked on showcases my developing understanding for design. Through working on a variety of project deliverables, my studies have exposed me to reinvent problem solving in the design environment. In each project I chose to challenge myself further and push myself outside my comfort zone. From my earliest of work till now, there is strong development of design that I am proud of.

LIMONAIA

All across Italy history is all around you, whether that be historic piazza’s, paintings, sculptures, or churches, it is difficult to not come in contact with the story of the country. Taking care and preserving these precious artifacts is very important to Italian culture. Working just outside the city center of Florence, the building of this project use to be an old Limonaia house for the winter. The client was asking for a rebirth of this structure in a way that would appreciate it’s history but also give the building a new purpose. This project focused on restoring a space back to it’s shell and creating an open living home that could accommodate for our client and his hobbies of developing film, hosting friends and family, and allowing him to feel inspired in his own home away from work. Playing with shapes and opening in the home, natural like is allowed through all spaces expect for the clients photo studio.

Starting with the box, this design was influenced by the simplicity of a Polaroid camera. Shifting and moving sections of the plan vertically, horizontally, and diagonally, a new form emerged. Playing with the idea of levels and platforms that pull from the plan, this design reflects the function and form of a self-developing camera that has helped people for generations capture moments. The client has a passion for not only hosting family and friends for special moments but also enjoys developing film in his free time. This home is influenced by this concept through the idea of creating boundaries by shifting traditional design elements to help generate private places and open spaces for all to enjoy. 4

Restricting the amount of closure in the space allows the home to feel more open and inviting to guest along with pushing natural light throughout the home. Keeping the balance between exposure and light is achieved through the transparent glass partition wall located off the balcony of the bedroom. This allows the client to keep privacy when he choses.

NEST BEST THING This design inquiry recognizes that there are few opportunities for restorative experiences in Florence and seeks to provide such experiences. Through observation, there is a lack of physical interaction with Florence’s historic art and architecture. The idea of interaction and playfulness drives this design to create a place people need for rest and recovery. The courtyard at the Novecento Museum has been transformed into a space where people can come to touch, climb, sit, and slide. The abstraction of an adult playground creates a place for people to release energy and act like children. Allowing them to touch is an experience that is not commonly found in most places - breaking that strict boundary and turning it into a more playful atmosphere.

C O N C E P T UA L D I R E C T I O N The design was inspire by an abstract model that connects to the idea of a nest. The nest is a space of comfort and stability within the wild which directly relates to the overload of sensory stimulation and unusual physical activity that Florence puts one through. Marble and cobble stone are two materials in direct reference with the aesthetics and experiences of Florence. Biophilic connection is brought through the use of artificial grass to relate back to natural surroundings which is hard to find in the city center.

When the sun is glaring down and bouncing heat off buildings, this space offers a shaded and cool area to hang out not too far from the city center. The marble of the structure will absorb the heat and keep the occupants cool during the harsh weather. The curves in the sculpture mimic the natural human curvature creating a space to feel comfortable away from home. At night, LED blue light reflect off the inner sculpture creating a glow that impacts the physical experience in a cognitive way. The UV blue light will help reset the circadian rhythm which will be especially helpful for those travelers struggling with jet lag in their new surroundings.

MAKING TOMORROW H A P P E N T O D AY The project is focused on designing a workplace environment that has an oriented concern towards context of a global perspective and will address the rapidly changing workplace culture. Aspects of sustainability, globalization, workplace collaboration, evolving real estate and brand identify strategies, communication technology and the networked office will all be key influential parts of the overall design process. The WELL Building Standard will be used to guide the design to reduce the impact on health and well-being of the occupants in the workplace. Working with a highly successful international tech company to design a new workplace in the heart of London that exhibits their core principles and values of thinking big, innovation and simplify to the highest standards. Design a workspace for a global technology company 5 years in the future located in London. The 25,000 square foot space will accommodate for 154 employees with encouraging collaboration and teamwork through the design. Experiential graphic design elements will be incorporated throughout the space, fusing the company and culture of the city together.

The formated furniture plan is set up in a grid system in order to cut down confusion between spaces for the employees so they can be familiar with every space no matter where they are in the plan. Each individual grid has the option for employees to work individual, collaborate together and present their work. Since there are few walls to separate boundaries, partition walls create an acoustic boundary and doubles as a place for employees to pin up work.

C O N C E P T UA L D I R E C T I O N Greenwich is the prime meridian and most significant factor to telling time. It is the location of 0-degree longitude and allows us to tell time from east to west. Discovery of the Greenwich Meridian came about from trial and error of using the Moon and Stars as an astronomical clock. Sailors would set their time to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) in order to navigate the sea. Today, all airlines, military, shipping, and anything that crosses time zones uses GMT. The concept is influenced by the importance of the prime meridian in relation to London itself. This is apart of the history of London and will be brought to life to not only educate those who are unfamiliar with GMT, but also bring it to life in a way that adds to the company values. Experiential graphic design will be incorporated through out, making the office an overall time telling space.

EXPERIENCE Some experiential graphic design elements that will be implemented in this global workplace is a live stream feed of news regarding company stocks, progress, and technological advancements. These will all be displayed on a holographic globe projected in the middle of the grand staircase so that it is in the central hub of the office for everyone to see. Touch screen monitors allow of easy control and access to the scheduling program to show upcoming office events. These monitors also allow a secure space for coworkers to share files and screens to open up opportunity to work together at any give meeting point throughout the office. The office is designed with a variety of work spaces to allow employees to move around and feel comfortable at any work station.

IIDA TRADE SHOW BOOTH Designing a booth for the Orgatec 2018 trade show in Germany gave me the opportunity to collaborate with another designer and gain international exposure among all participants. The challenge was to design a booth of minimal requirements, which allowed for my partner and I to endlessly explore our creativity. The booth was set out to be visually appealing, inviting, and leave an inspirational impact on visitors. This interactive space needed to accommodate multiple zones for oneon-one conversation showing the best of what IIDA can offer for potential new members. The competition was sponsored by Vitra which required their line of products and furniture to be used exclusively.

C O N C E P T UA L D I R E C T I O N The concept behind this trade show booth design is to have the IIDA logo come to life. The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) is an association based on connecting designers from all around the world. Taking the core values of the client to do more and connect with others, their logo is the inspiration of the design.

Material and equipment selection from Vitra is specifically picked to mix traditional and out-of-the-box elements to enhance the concept of connection. The booth will also include a custom built reception desk along with a collaboration bar.

H E C -T E C L AW PRACTICE This was a semester long project which focused on utilizing Revit. The criteria given for this project was to create a practical law office from importing the AutoCad file and building it up from there. Creativity was endless since this was a project mainly to focus on using skills we learned all semester into one final presentation. Requirements included a custom reception desk and signage, creative reflective ceiling floor plans and flooring, and a 10 page construction document that included schedules and detail drawings.
