Swam from my shore (9 Priscilla Path) 10 ft out and due east toward outlet, then curved toward northwest before back to my shore.

swam from my house on a southeastern line to the outlet turned southwest for about 50m before turning north back to shore. Swam from my shore line southwest to just west of the Priscilla path public access. Centered in the pond b/t Priscilla Path and Bayfield was a pod of large plants. Stayed in this area w/ a radius of about 20 ft before swimming northeast back to my shore line.

Comments 1-3 ft vis, light wind, cloudy big algae blooms, curly leaf forests returning, najas covering the bottom at 1-1.5 ft deep. These large plants (7 plants >10 stems, 5 > 20 stems) but spread out so had to swim a bit between. Swam over tall plants (~ 3-4ft) but < 10 stems. Wondering if we need new data point as it takes time to figure out if somethings >10 vs >20 stem. Think we should pick plants <10 stems but we'll chat about that. Had gear trouble or could have covered more acres in the time it took today. Just getting going. 80 degree air temp and sunny. Picked 7 >10 stem and 16>20 stems (counting stems slowing down picking) plants scattered w/ only a few together before swimming to next pod. big algae blooms, 1-3 ft vis w/ algae and other particulates in the water column cont w/ gear trouble and coming off a virus so slow to get picking. Picked 6 >10 stems and 5 >20 stems Plants are fragile, curly leaf forest regrowth, thick and algae covered. Thick najas bottom. Finding 2 plants together and then swim a distance before coming to another pod of 2 or 3. Did pass over <10 stems. Wonder if we should get some of those as they are tall. What is well Windy, warm, sunny. 1-3 ft vis w/ algae in water column. Pods of 1-3 large milfoil plants inbedded in algae-covered curly leaf forests. 54 plants >10 stems. Stopped counting >20 as it's hard to decipher difference and wonder if it's worth it so will speak w/ Ted and Mike at our DPA mtg tonight. 1-3 ft vis Thick milfoil, curly leaf, 1+ft thick najas covered bottom. Algae covering milfoil. When picked the algae would hold the tops of milfoil in the water column while I tried to hall it into the bag. Pulled my back so out until PT clearance.

Mike, Often don't have map with me when entering.. is a real pain to go by "area on map" -suggestions??? Was at border of green markers and chat area to see if I could determine an "area of influence of triclopyr" --not viewable. That is, as I swam an area about 100 yards by 50 yards from Dudley Pt-midway to Rocky Pt.almost to Eastern tip of Filurin Cove, I could see no real "curled over leaf tips". This is in opposition to what I saw at Allison's outlet area where the tips really do seem to be curling over.

4

Swam from my shore southwest to ~30 ft off 3 Priscilla Path dock picked a plant then moved towards the central lily pads where I came across a pod of 1-3 plants and then swam before hitting the next pod.

4

On the eastern edge of 3B. swam from 1E (Bayfield road side) on a northwest path then turned north towards Priscilla Path public access. Worked more the middle of the two roads

4

Continue to work the eastern line of 3B and now toward the middle of 3B.

Comments It appears unrealistic to try to keep a count of big vs small. As I swim, especially when the bag is getting big and unruly as it is filled with plants, I pick what is in my way. I suppose a reasonable way to do this with surface support is to have the surface recorder get this verbage from a diver: "I have 205 mf in the bag, and about 70 percent (to the nearest ten percent) are over 10 stems." I don't think keeping any other count is reasonable, especially as divers get tired and lose count concentration, etc. Also, in this database, I would like to see alongside the "area picked" at least some way to add words that describe more exactly where picking occurred, and perhaps even whether it was "completed" so that a marker surface putter would be able to know to pick up the markers and move them. 1-3 ft vis continues. MF (6 days post tryclopyr tx) appears a more dull green, w/ tops not as red....the big ones I pulled had healthy strong stems as I had to fight a few to come out. of the 23 plants, 10 were true buffaloes of >20 stems and taller than 4 ft, starting to tilt the tops over w/ the flow of water as too taller than water column. Yes, my snapper hung out near but not too near (at the lily pads). She let me work. Slowly restarting diving as my back mends. 90 and sunny. Warm calm water w/ pollen coating the top. Particulates, esp algae in the water column reducing vis to ~3 ft. Swam through curly leaf forests w/ their budding turions (pine-cone like seed pods). The MF are clumped in this area w/ open areas or just curly leaf forests separating the clumps, so a fair amt of swimming necessary to get to the MF plants. Attempting to pull 5 stems or greater but definitely taking out less stemmed plants if they're in the way 90 degrees and sunny...hot. vis 3-4 ft w/ algae and white particles shimmering in the water column. Yellow pollen coating the surface. Big plants, so filling up bags quicker than usual. slows the process when have to dump and come back. the plants are continuing if not degrading more as they break up easily. I'm seeing tall 3 and 4 stemmers so am picking those. We said nothing less than 5 stems but the 3 and 4 stemmers have a bigger root ball than you would expect.

Comments 65 air degrees and partly sunny to sunny. Light wind. Vis 3ft w/ green algae and white shimmering particles in the water column. Some curly leaf starting to let go and float on the surface, catching on the buoys. Fragile plants but still standing tall. Finding clumps of milfoil here and there. Tall plants whether one stem or 20 stemmed. Grown up to the surface or just below. Have to dig past the 1+foot of najas to get to root balls. Everywhere I turn there's another clump. Foot long large mouth bass stayed w/ me part of the day and then ran into a medium, dark gray cat fish. vis 1-2ft (poor), windy and 74 air degrees. Smoky hazy air from Quebec fires...yes, the wind blowing in the smoke all the way from Canada. cont to find pods of 3-6 plants, tall, multistemmed, with the leaf whorls dropping, turning a lighter green and the stems becoming fragile at the top of the stocks. The stems ~4" or more above the roots are still strong for multistemmed plants but not for many 1 stemmed near by. The plants break up very easily and difficult to bag w/out great fragmentations. I have to go back around after to get all the fragments I can. The curly leaf is starting to let go but that may be due to the temp of water, which is warm. The najas is thick on the bottom and still finding algae blooms. 75 air degrees, windy Fragile plants drooping down. A multistemmer may only have one stem still standing while everyone else lays on the najas. poor vis in the top ft of water column but clears to mod vis at the bottom. 75 air temp, windy, cloudy, humid.

Large clump of big plants (>10 stemmed) drooping onto the najas. Some w/ a few stems still standing. Few w/ all stems standing. of the 110, probably only 5 I had to work to get the rootball out. 75 air temp, windy, partly cloudy and humid. Vis was poor the 1st foot down and then cleared to mod vis. Very, very fragile plants at this point. Most lying on center of 3B swimming south ~50m the najas w/ maybe one stem up. About 20 plants before turning east bound and then were still fully standing and very large, good due north towards the 3B/2F line. rootballs. The rest were rather droopy w/ easier to Then swam due west ~30m before remove rootballs. I am finding around the dying turning south back to the boat. plants, floaties that look unhealthy but have healthy Finished by pulling the boat due east- looking roots. I picked them up. Not sure if they northeast and pulling plants I swam would die vs regenerate. Don't trust them so I to the Priscilla Path Public Access. bagged them!

Grace's Cove-the whole cove.

vis low/poor ~1-2ft . 28 large plants scattered around the cove. 3 still partly standing w/ strong root systems while the rest draped over onto the najas and partly disintegrating. Plants losing their leaves while the curly leaf falls to the bottom as well, making it hard to identify which strands are curly leaf and which are MF.

still don't have a map to reference when I put this in so I guessed the #X location... I was in the Chat cove, between the two Northernmost circulators, almost exactly halfway between. We had misidentified some mf from the surface about 60 feet off the Chat dock (which works well to get to the Chat by boat by the way). We swam in Z pattern toward NW Circulator. I came across a patch of about 20 ft by 30 ft with only two mf in my bag. Then I picked 52 more in that patch. Shawn picked 45 more in that patch.

Mf is extemely fragile. ...even in Chat cove. Much of the mf is denuded of leaflets. Most often we find big plants of greater than ten stems where most of the stems are bent over back toward the sediment, appearing underwater much like a large forsythia bush that is re-rooting itself at the tips of its branches. When there are leaflets still left on the plant, the stems themselves are very very fragile, even more fragile than the most fragmentable I have ever seen at the end of a summer. Do not misinterpret that former sentence. When the fragments break off, they break off easily, sometimes at the slightest touch at the end of a summer. However, the stems themselves are relatively intact even if they are fragile. In no case in my memory banks have the stems themselves been as fragile as I saw and felt today. Merely gently picking the plant to put it in the bag, without gloves today, caused it to break apart at the middle of the stem.

Swam 2/3 of 2E starting from the southwest corner to the Johnson's dock. Covered all of 2E in that area. Have covered the other 1/2 of 2E in previous 3B diving.

The whole cove Swam from 2G cove next to the island house on the western edge of 3C and beyond the island ~20 ft before turning and covering the area to the east of this line ~the whole mouth opening width of the cove.

Comments Poor vis ~1ft w/ lots of particles in the water column. Air 67 degrees, windy (nw wind ~13mph w/ gusts to in the 20s), partly sunny. Very difficult to find any MF plants. Both MF and curly leaf dying down so many stems on the bottom but difficult at times to figure out if MF or curly leaf. The 6 I pulled w/ quite large plants but most stems lying on the the bottom and only a few standing. Root balls were intact but not holding onto too tight to the bottom. Used the scooter to make as much ground as possible. poor vis. Challenge getting through lilies, though they don't seem as thick as last year. The 3 plants I found had been big and were lying on the bottom, disintegrating. Checked all the buoys but found no plants next to the markers. Either the buoys moved or the herbicide did it's work. Spent more time around the markers but could not locate one strand of milfoil.

Again, finding little. What was found was big but drooping. Will revisit the rest of 3C tomorrow.

The name is wrong but you need to add Shawn Loisean to the list. He has been working since last thursday

Divers found mostly dying plants that had stems near the root ball that appeared viable. Roots seemed intact. The dying part of the plant consisted mostly of denuded stems that were laying down on the bottom with a few stubs sticking up at or near the root ball. Also, Shawn found a cluster of 20 bright green fully viable plants under the southeasternmost circulator. These appeared not to be affected by the herbicide.

Divers worked in Mansion Beach area 1A and partiallly in 4A. Then divers also picked a cluster in 1F. Divers finished the day in 4E working toward a meeting with 2B.

Tonight I, Ted, am bringing to the SWQC a 20 something stemmed example freshly picked hours ago of denuded stems but apparently viable big root ball.

Surveyed The whole Chateau side of the pond starting in 2c-2d-3a-2d-1d1c-2b-2a. Sending Mike the line of dive on the graph sheet. NO MILFOIL FOUND!!!! Sited from boat on the shorelines first as the najas too thick and water too low to see well via snorkel or scuba. Then swam across and back in all the areas. 1A and 3C to 2G: Surveyed mostly 1A (Mansion beach over to Simpson point and back). Then boated over assessing shoreline of 3C and into Little Darak Cove where his dock is.

Comments

Mostly najas (2-3 ft thick). Curley leaf coming back in sporadic shorter-looking plants. Appears ~1/4 of the curley leaf growth than I saw in spring. NO MILFOIL najas starts ~10 ft or more off the beach. Mostly najas at 5-6 ft depth and then very silty with little to no najas >6 ft depth. Sporadic curley leaf but not the tall healthy growth of spring.

Locale, Direction Started in 2A and swam south to 1B (Filurin cove), then turned west to the western end of the cove before making a north by north east curve out of the cove and stayed east until reaching the 2A/2B line then turned north back to the Dudley point southern end. Boated over to the Darack beach and swam south/southwest to just before Mike's house then turned southeast and arc'd east to Dudley Point. Turned and swam back on a northwestern line to the beach. Then swam east then northeast toward the Lakeshore side near 38 Lakeshore Drive. 2G-Boated the edges then swam the middle parts 3b-2f-2e-1e started around 38 Lakeshore Dr. Swam southwest to north end of Dudley point. Then swam southeastern to Pine Rd then turned north to Priscilla Path public dock. Swam into and down the middle of 2f (Grace's cove) turned south at shoreline and swam on a southwestern heading across 3b into 2e to around 90's Dudley Rd. At shoreline turned northwest back to 38 Lakeshore DR. Then east-southeast into 1E and swam down the Bayfield side of 1e to the outlet and turned north-northwest ~25 ft off shoreline back to 9 Priscilla Path.

Comments

NO MILFOIL Noted more short aquatic grass in 3C. If not grass then it was najas w/ patches of silty areas.

NO MILFOIL!! A mixture of najas, a few aquatic grass clumps, expanses in 3B of silty areas. Najas quite thick at parts as only ~2ft of water from najas to water surface.
