10 YEARS OF HELPING HANDS. HEALTH. HOPE. “HE WHO PLANTS A TREE, PLANTS A HOPE.” ~Lucy Larcom

Robert S. Fry Chair, Board of Directors

Thank you for celebrating our 10th Anniversary with us! Because of you, Western Tidewater Free Clinic (WTFC) has had 10 years of “Growing Healthier Lives.” Because of you, more than 5,000 unduplicated patients have received more than 135,000 visits to the Clinic during this time. Because of you, more than 210,000 free medications were dispensed with a retail value of $38 million since we opened. You have truly changed lives, one patient at a time. This year’s State of the Mission includes highlights from the past decade and snapshots of the lives impacted by your support of the Clinic. As depicted on the cover, we honor our roots established by our founders, our sturdy trunk which grows with the support of our volunteers and donors, and our leaves that continue to grow as we strive to provide access to healthcare to all who need it. Because of you, our tree is healthy and strong.

Chet M. Hart Executive Director

In our 10th year of operations, we experienced record high numbers by serving 1,647 patients and providing 19,723 visits. Every service area had increases, including dispensing a record-high of $9.2 million in retail value of medications. WTFC volunteers donated more than 9,600 hours last year, valued at more than $280,000 and equivalent to almost 5 full-time employees. To celebrate our 10-year milestone, WTFC hosted two successful anniversary events including a forum with keynote speakers Virginia State Health Commissioner Dr. Marissa Levine, Delegate S. Chris Jones, and EVMS Department of Surgery Chairman Dr. L.D. Britt, and a donor celebration to honor 10-year donors and volunteers. What’s next for WTFC? We will continue to grow healthier lives one patient at a time, with your continued belief and support of our mission. We will continue to serve those who fall through the gap of healthcare as the sole safety net provider of free healthcare in Western Tidewater. We will continue to serve as a health home for our patients, providing them with comprehensive, coordinated high-quality medical care. And, with your help, we will continue to serve grateful patients like Cynthia who recently shared, “I came to this Clinic broken and nowhere to turn… Thank you to everyone at the Western Tidewater Free Clinic. You people are miracle workers in my mind.” Thank you for ensuring the Clinic remains sturdy and strong and that the lives touched here continue to grow and flourish. Humbly yours,

Robert S. Fry Chair, Board of Directors

Chet M. Hart Executive Director
