The Chicago Symphony and Aida A highlight of our summer-fall opera season is Verdi’s Aida, with the Chicago Symphony and its chorus led by Riccardo Muti, and a cast headed by soprano Krassimira Stoyanova in the title role and Francesco Meli as Radames. The performance, from June 2019, was the fourth concert presentation of a Verdi opera that Maestro Muti has undertaken as music director - the previous ones were Otello, Macbeth, and Falstaff. Mezzo-soprano Anita Rachvelishvili sings the role of Amneris, a princess who loves Radames, general of the Egyptian army, but Radames loves Aida, Amneris’ slave. Aida, however, is also a princess: daughter of the King of Ethiopia, a nation the Egyptians have defeated in war. The Ethiopian king is portrayed by baritone Kiril Manolov, while Eric Owens plays the King of Egypt and Ildar Abdrazakov is Ramfis, the Egyptian high priest. Saturday, August 22 12:00 pm
