SITE LOCATION
North boundary of Kent town As a unused factory, the site I choose standing at the north side of kent town, facing at the North Terrace,with Little King William street at its back. Due to the special location of this “for leasing� factory, as its location should be a good transition between North Terrace -the extention of city, and the Suburb Kent town, this place is a good choice to analysis and solve the issues of Kent town and suburbs like this area.

Theme 1 Accessible

GET THERE IF I WANT The 1st meaning of Accessible is that everyone could get in or out whenever they want, but the issue is, like Kent town area, site is unlinked with roads and pedestrains around it. So I need to find a way that could link this “isolate island” with periphery roads and blocks.
BUILD EYE CONNECTIONS 2nd meaning of Accessible is about eyesight accessible. After analysing the Nolli Map of Kent town focusing on“public and private”,I think the main topic which could conclude this issue is that “eye connections”, whether we can see each other, others action or interaction, and other activities around us. If we could build eye connect successfully, that should be recognized as “public scene”,if our eye sight are blocked, then generate so-called “private”.
Theme 2 Activate BRING NATURAL ELEMENTS IN The 1st method of Activate is bring every natural elements in both the site and the building, like sunlight, water, lawn and terrain. Not only at the ground level, but every storey of the architecture, or maybe also I shall build eye connection between the outside nature and people staying inside the architecture.
BECOME MORE ADELAIDE AND KENT TOWN The 2nd way of Activate is bring elements or features of Kent town and Adelaide so that the new building I made for this side could be more “Kent town” style.

# RESPOND TO SITE

After define the shape and context of building, the next issue which needs to be finished is the “traffic link”, that’s to say, the biggest problem of “accessible”, how could I solve that walkers who want to enter site or Kent town is cut down by driveways around them. Of course, one simple way is to build a footbridge for pedestrains.
As the whole Adelaide has a uneven terrain, the new architecture is supposed to respond to this specific topography. Although the site topography is flat, I want to mimic the surrounding topography and create a new “natural” elements then bring it into the site area, just respond to site and the concept “activate”.
