Ichabods round out a superior season

Senior Chris Grause takes the ball airborne as he attempts to finish under par. Grause finished his career at Washburn tied for 71 at the NCAA Division II championships in Simpsonville, Ky.

Dominate Lady Blues

Parents and players pose for a picture on senior day. Washburn had seven seniors end the season: Whitley Zitsch, Kristin McKee, Annie Doole, Morgan Rainey, Brittany Osborne, Jamie Blackim and Alyssa Castillo.

Castillo picked up first team honors at No. 6 singles after recording a perfect 6-0 record in MIAA play while going 15-5 on the season overall. She finished her Lady Blues single career with a 57-29 record. Sparked by a six-match winning streak, the Lady Blues dominated in the MIAA with a 6-1 record while finishing 11-8 overall.

Senior Morgan Rainey makes looking stylish while winning matches look easy. In her three years at Washburn, Rainey compiled a record of 45-29 in singles play.

A strong backhand by Casyn Buchman earns her a point in practice. Buchman teamed with Sophie O’Neill to receive honorable mention all-MIAA after going 8-4 this season including a 4-1 mark in MIAA play going 7-1 overall at the No. 3 doubles position. Both players also received honorable mention in singles play as well. Buchman at No. 5 singles after recording a 4-1 record in MIAA play and a 13-4 record overall.

Lady Blues undergo harsh season

The Lady Blues gather around home plate to congratulate a teammate on her home run. Despite a seven-game winning streak, Washburn finished 19-24 and 9-11 in the MIAA. The Lady Blues managed to reach the MIAA conference tournament going 1-2. They lost their first game 5-2 to UCM and beat Lincoln 8-3 before getting knocked out by MWSU.

The Lady Blues finished 19-24 under Vanessa Becerra’s first year as head coach. Washburn will return a majority of its players while only saying goodbye to three seniors.

Ichabods wrap-up with a triumphant season

The Ichabods huddle up for a break in between games during a doubleheader. Washburn was very tough to beat at home, finishing 14-5 on their home turf. The Bods were less successful on the road accumulating a record of 12-17

away from Falley Field. Washburn will lose many of their starters after losing many players to graduation.

Senior John Calhoun slides in safely to third base. Calhoun led the team in batting average, RBI’s, doubles, walks, home runs, total runs, stolen bases and hits.

head coach Steve Anson’s 33rd year at the helm, Washburn finished 27-22 while going 22-18 in the MIAA. This was the team’s highest conference finish since 2006.
The Ichabods won six of their 10 four-game MIAA series throughout the year. Washburn finished the season strong with six wins in the final eight games of the year.
