Courts drop charges 3 enter guilty pleas to unrelated charges
in eight WW cases Charges of prison escape, theft and drug possession have been dropped in eight unrelated Walla Walla court cases. Judge John C. Tuttle and James B. Mitchell dismissed the various Walla Walla County Superior Court counts at the request of the Walla Walla County prosecutor's office. Three of the defendants were James F. Woolson, Robert Cleveland Jr. and Danny Baer, ages and addresses unknown. The other persons charged — George Padgett, Lawrence E. George, Jack van Eaton, David M. Sparks and Alvin L. Gilcrest — are Washington State Penitentiary inmates. A charge of grand larceny by check against Woolson was dropped because he is under supervision in another county. Cleveland was charged with first-
degree theft in the matter of a $1,500 truck rig. The matter was handled as a civil matter and the truck has been returned to its rightful owner, the court was informed. A third-degree theft charge against Baer was dismissed because he has pleaded guilty to vehicle prowling, which sufficiently reflects the offense committed, the prosecutor's office decided. Gilcrest, 21, was charged with possession of amphetamine, a stimulant drug. That count was dropped because he has been convicted of first-degree assault in the stabbing of another prisoner. Padgett, 25; George, 32; van Eaton. 30; and Sparks, 34, were all charged with escape from the penitentiary. The counts were dismissed because they are all now back in the prison.
9 charges dropped Nine criminal charges ranging from prison escape to being an habitual traffic offender have been dropped in Walla Walla. Walla Walla County Superior Court judges James B. Mitchell and John C. Tuttle dismissed the counts at the request of the WaDa Walla County prosecutor's office. Four of the defendants — Marion Ray Friedrich, 30; Jack Brown, 28; James Lee Howard, 27; and Wesley E. Stambach. 38 — were charged with escaping from the Washington State Penitentiary. The escape counts were dropped because all the men were returned to the prison. The remaining defendants were David Willoughby, 34; Dean Benjamin Dettmer, 38; Michael Lynn Van Fleet, 33; LaVern Francis Whitlock, 42; and Mark Edward
Denton,21. Their current addresses were not listed. Willoughby was charged with second-degree assault in attacking another man with an axe in a 1974 incident. The charge was dismissed because he was committed to a state institution. A grand larceny charge against Dettmer was dropped because he has been sentenced in an Oregon case. Van Fleet, who was charged here with vehicle theft, is now in a federal institution, the court was informed. The evidence for a first-degree forgery count against Whitlock isn't available now. A charge against Denton of being an habitual traffic offender was dismissed because Denton is no longer in the county.

Auction sale suit dismissed A $17,000 lawsuit involving an auction sale has been dropped at the request of the persons involved. William R. and Laurel A. Monroe, 1350 CaUanan Drive, filed the Walla Walla County Superior Court suit. The defendant in the case — Rick Lang of Silverton, Ore. — filed a $25,000 counterclaim. Judge James B. Mitchell has dismissed the suit. The Monroes' suit said Lang, acting as an auctioneer, sold up to $25.000 worth of items for the Monroes for $8,864. It said I,ang failed to properly advertise and execute the sale, causing the Monroes a S17.000 loss. Lang filed an answer denying the allegations. His reply said the Monroes and others attended the auction with a plan to disrupt the sale and they did so. l<ang entered a $25.000 counterclaim for alleged damage the plaintiffs caused to his business reputation.
Three persons have pleaded guilty to unrelated charges in Walla Walla County Superior Court. Presentence investigations have been ordered for Mark E. Ayers, 18, and Pamela Sue Christner, 18, whose addresses were given as 214 W. Sumach St.; and Dayna Lorraine Rosalez, 22, address given as 503'z Sumach St. Ayers is charged with possession of stolen property in the third degree in taking items from a vehicle that wasn't his. Miss Christner is charged with complicity in possession of stolen property in the third degree in assisting Ayers in the Dec 2, 1976. incident.

A $4,979 lawsuit seeking payment for merchandise has been dropped in Walla Walla County Superior Court. Walla Walla Grange Supply Inc.. 1012 W. Rees St., filed the suit against Gerald H. and Remona L Filan, Route 4 At the agreement of the persons involved in the case, Judge James B Mitchell has dismissed the suit.
