As a creative, my life path has never been on a singular trajectory. My professional growth is that of a true life-long learner. When I am not learning anymore, it is time for me to shift, so I can grow and learn. During a CreativeMornings PDX presentation in 2014 and Anna Telcs (fashion designer) was speaking about product development and how it can benefit from cross-pollination, in addition to weaving your own creative careers from the threads of all your creative interests. This truly resonated with me. I love the term cross-pollinator, and have referred to myself as one ever since. My teaching style is that of a Director, making sure that all participants have the skills they need, and directing them, per their individual challenges and needs, to usher the student into self discovery and awareness. This portfolio is of my student work from 2016 - 2024. From a Bachelors in Dance, Performance & Choreography to a Masters in Industrial Design, there were three constant threads throughout: 1. design, 2. storytelling, 3. teaching/mentorship. The foundations I learned in both academic endeavors allow me to be a strong contributing team/community member and leader in my professional experiences. Every step of the way, not only have I been growing and learning, but I have also solidified my learning by teaching and mentoring others. WE ARE WHAT WE REPEATEDLY DO. EXCELLENCE IS NOT AN ACT, BUT A HABIT.’ -WILL DURANT ● 1984 - Graffiti my name on the side of my mattress with a red permanent marker. I have been doodling for 40 years. ● 1985 - I started taking creative movement and ballet classes. I have been moving, creatively planning, and observing people for 39 years. ● 1988 - Teaching & directing a performance with all the cousins (my aunt has a VHS to prove it). I have been teaching/directing for 36 years.

Course Synopsis: Based of the workflow and process of Product Teams in the industry, this team-based class allows each member to be designer of their own product. The team collaboratively developed the brand/muse and design briefs, solving problems through new product design for said muse, while aligning with the brand that was selected for them by PENSOLE. All physical and digital design work was done by the student designers. Product designers also created tech packs which were used in ‘handoff meetings’ with professional sample makers to create the prototypes. For this class, the apparel designers were able to help make their final garments. Pending approval from the revision meeting, final samples moved forward. Footwear designers also worked with Vibram, to create individual outsoles specific to the functional need. Students created and presented tech packs to Vibram, who then created blue prints BPs for revision, before the 1-off final samples were made.

VR Concept Design with Gravity Sketch

ACCESSORIES & APPAREL DESIGN ○

3D Soft Goods Design with Browzwear

Page Synopsis: This page is a combination of work by Nate Gagnon. Every semester, I have been incorporating technology, either using existing tech to industry standards, or integrating new technology that is quickly becoming industry standard. Thus, giving students access to what is current, better preparing them for the competitive job market after graduation. FA22, Footwear Design Studio, Nate’s 2D rendering work in Adobe Illustrator was stellar. Since then, I have expected nothing less from him. In SP23 New Concepts Studio, Nate delivered again, this time though VR ideation/design in Gravity Sketch for his Mars Boot Concept Shoe. In FA23 for the Team-Based Product Creation Studio, Nate was the Accessories and Apparel Designer on his team, using a combination of Illustrator, GS & Browzwear (3D Soft Goods Design Program) and again, putting in the extra hours to get the job done. His design knowledge, work ethic and determination make him an asset to have on any design team. ● ●

This page does not do his process justice, please check out his Portfolio if you would like to see more. Nate and 3 other JMU ID Students have been selected to join the 2024 Gravity Sketch Student Ambassador program.
