LETTER TO YOU 2010: The Year of Reinvention They say necessity is the mother of invention. That is certainly true in Coco Eco’s case, but for me in 2010, necessity is now the mother of reinvention. As I enter this New Year as the Editor in Chief of the globe’s first woman’s eco glossy; a publication, which with just a year under her belt, is quite literally taking the world by storm, I reflect on the direction that this vehicle will take during the next twelve months. With all things considered, it seems now more than ever that there is an urgent need to reinvent ourselves. The way we relate to self, each other, our planet, our communities, and our lives. The way we do business and integrate on a global platform. And as we move into the final year of the first decade of the 21st century, what a great opportunity to look back, reflect, and take the lessons learned into the next decade, and do something completely different!
was going to interview him and write this feature, immediate panic set in. How do you begin to illustrate what this man has achieved during the last 30-plus years? He has reinvented himself, his industrial acquisitions, and his brand multiple times, and continues to amaze as he now reinvents space with the reality of commercial space travel. And he’s greening it too. A further reinvention!
So, with that thought in mind, I am thrilled to share our first issue of 2010, and Issue 9: The Reinvention Issue. Who better to grace our cover than Gossip Girl’s amazing Kelly Rutherford? We wanted to present her in a fresh light, and as you will see from the photos, Kelly now most definitely seems poised to go in a new personal direction.
From all of us at Coco Eco Magazine, we wish you a brilliant New Year. Even though it’s the 15th, 2010 is still very young. Go doing something great, have fun, and make a very cool difference not only for yourself, but also for our planet!
Keeping with the reinvention theme, I am beyond over the moon to introduce Sir Richard Branson, a huge personal hero of mine, in our Men We Love column. After the automatic elation of knowing I 8
In our fashion column, we have exclusively featured Johnson Hartig and his collection, Libertine in this issue. Libertine is one of my personal favorites, and it was a brilliant experience to work with Johnson and his team. Keeping in line with the reinvention theme, Libertine’s focus takes recycled fashion and recreates original pieces via embellishment, printing, and extra attention to new details. In Beauty, our focus is Skin Deep, and we feature not only key looks for natural radiance, but also detox products and skin serums to reinvent our perhaps lackluster complexion during winter.

ZOEY GROSSMAN
JEFFREY FITERMAN
Fuller lives and works between Paris and NYC. His images have appeared in solo and group exhibitions in NYC, Paris, Miami and Nashville. His client roster includes Christian Dior, Nautica, Ralph Lauren, Nike, Bottega Veneta and Le Sport Sac. Fuller is currently directing the documentary film, “Musical Trails” and also produces and directs fashion and music videos.
Ever since I was little, I have been trying to somehow recreate the things I found beautiful. When I started taking photographs I was inspired by the fact that the beauty I was capturing started with something real. When I take a picture, each component brings with it, its own life. The model, location and clothing all bring their own energy to create the image.
Jeffrey Fiterman was born and raised in Minneapolis. He started taking photos at the age of six when his father gave him a 35mm camera on a hiking trip. Years later, he packed up his ‘67 Mustang and headed to California to attend Brooks Institute of Photography. Since then he has worked for clients ranging from MTV to Seven7 Jeans and Venice Magazine. Currently he lives in LA and when he has the time he likes to travel and photograph ancient Mayan and Aztec ruins.
