What is TeamGym? The popular Mix – TeamGym
- The perfect mix of rhythmic movements and powerful jumps - Team sport in men-, women- and mixed teams - Mainly an European category If you prefer both rhythm and jump, TeamGym is the perfect choice. It is the most popular competitive activity in Danish Gymnastics Federation. Rhythm and power are the keywords in TeamGym. This means that the training is versatile and focusing on coordination, rhythm and power. Teamwork and technique is crucial. Every competition is in teams of 6-12 gymnasts on each team whether it is women, men or mixed teams. The mixed teams need to be 50 % of each gender.
The competition with 3 categories
TeamGym is divided into 3 categories. The outcome of the 3 categories represents the competition as a whole: 1) Floor Programme A floor programme along with music of your own choice is being composed by the coach of each team, but the programme is built upon different line-ups and difficulties. All gymnasts on the team must participate in the floor programme. 2) Tumbling In this category you put a series of routines into one round. There are 3 rounds with 6 gymnasts in each. Every gymnast has to follow the same series of routines in the 1st round. 3) Trampet There are 3 rounds with 6 gymnasts in each. At least one round must be performed on vaulting table and at least one round without apparatus. All 6 gymnasts have to follow the same routine in the 1st round.
Score
A score in each of the 3 categories is received. The 3 grades altogether is the final score. The final category grade is defined by 3 levels of grades: • The A-score This is the grade that defines the difficulty of the exercises the teams are executing. This is a none limit score. • The B-score This is the execution score. The team is starting at 10 points and the points are being deducted according to style, precision, safety and so on. •
The C-score This is the score of composition. In the rhythmic series the team has 4 points and in both of the two jump categories the team has 2 points. The points are subtracted if the team does not accomplish the demands of composition in each category.

TeamGym is without question the most popular way to compete in gymnastics in Denmark. Of all the gymnasts competing in Denmark, 60 per cent do TeamGym. The mix of power, aesthetics, and the social element is some of the sport’s strengths. Denmark has always competed with full delegation at the Nordic Championships, both in the junior and senior competitions, and we have a long tradition of winning medals. Hopefully this year will not be any different. The teams representing Denmark in this Senior Nordic Championships are:
MIX COMPETITION
TeamGym Greve TeamGym Greve is one of our best clubs regarding women’s TeamGym (in Denmark). This year they decided to try the mix competition at the National Championships. This turned out very successfully as they won and are now going for gold at the Nordic Championships.
12
TeamGym – the Danish way Ollerup Ollerup has been one of our best mix teams for many years. However, last season they were defeated by TeamGym Greve at the National Championships. Ollerup are defending Nordic Champions in the mix competition and it will be very exciting to follow them in this year’s championships.
Bolbro Gymnasterne Bolbro Gymnasterne has been competing at the Nordic Championships since 2005. Their best result at the Nordic Championships were in 2009 when they won the silver medal, but will this be the year when they win the gold medal?
WOMEN’S COMPETITION
Gjellerup Sdr. In 2011 and 2013 Gjellerup Sdr. won the gold medal at the National Championships. Now they are competing for the second time in the Nordic Senior Championships. In 2011 they won the bronze medal, and this year they are going for gold.
TeamGym Greve As mentioned earlier, TeamGym Greve is one of the best TeamGym clubs in Denmark. Last year the club did not only take first place in the mix competition but also in the women’s competition. In 2012 they won the silver medal at the Junior Nordic Championships, Join us at and now they are ready to Facebook compete in the Nordic Senior TeamGym DK Championships for the first time.
MEN’S COMPETITION
Svendborg GF For many years Svendborg has been in the top of the men’s competition in the Danish TeamGym. For the past two seasons they won the silver medal at the National Championships. Last time they competed at the Nordic Championships was in 2009 where they also won the silver medal. Is this the year for gold to the club?

TeamGym in Iceland TeamGym Gymnastics has enjoyed tremendous success in Iceland in recent years to the extent that individual team members on the national team have become public figures. Since the first trip to the podium at the European Championships in 2006 the popularity and exposure of TeamGym Gymnastics in Iceland has been increasing year after year. In 2010 the women’s national team in TeamGym became the first Icelandic team in any sport to win European Championship honours. From that moment Iceland has gone Gymnastics Crazy as most Gymnastics clubs, in particular those located in the capital area, have a long waiting list. Last October in Arhus the sport reached new heights when both the Senior and Junior Women’s teams won gold that was broadcasted live on National Television. Media Coverage was extensive with mainstream media reporting on the event and the teams received numerous congratulation letters, even from the president and prime minister. TeamGym gymnastics has won the hearts of the Icelandic nation and after arriving from Arhus the teams were invited to a presidential reception which during the president, in a speech, said that “A new national sport was being born”.
16
The recent success story of gymnastics in Iceland can also be realized in pure facts. According to the Icelandic National Olympic Committee (ISI) gymnastics have become the number one sport for women in Iceland, surpassing Football. Gymnastics also have the second most participants in the age group 6-18 years and the Icelandic Gymnastics Federation is the 4th largest sports federation in Iceland. Since 2009 the National Television (RUV) has broadcasted the TeamGym Nationals live, and in some years other TeamGym tournaments as well. The ratings from these live broadcasts have been around 21%. Last October RUV did a live broadcast from the EC in Aarhus that gathered an impressive 22.9% rating. It was the first time RUV did a live broadcast from a major international TeamGym event and in January they followed it up with a 30 minute special on the tournament that got a staggering 36% rating. In last year our women’s national team in TeamGym was chosen the Team of the Year by the ISI and Icelandic Sport Press Association. At the same time one of our Teamgym gymnastics, Iris Mist Magnusdottir, was in 3rd place in the election for the Sportsman of the Year.

Team Gerpla from Iceland Gerpla womens team comes from the town of Kopavogur in Iceland and is the current Nordic and Icelandic champion. The team members are all, despite of their young age, experienced gymnasts from the age of 16 to 23. Many of the team members were also competing at NM in Larvik 2011. However, there has been some generation shift in the team so the members average age is quite low compared to last NM. Gerpla team members were also prominent, as members of the goldmedal-winning National Team of Iceland, at the European Championships 2012. Most of the team members are college or university students and some of them are also coaching junior teams in their spear time. Trainings for the Nordics 2013 have gone well. The team traines now on average 5 times each week for 3 hours each time. The training season started formally in Denmark last summer where the team went to a training camp in Bernstorffsminde Efterskole for one week and then participated in Landsstævne 2013 in Esbjerg. At Landsstævne the team experiensed a really warm welcome and the celebrated hospitality of the Danes.
The coaching team consists of five coaches. The jumping/ physical coaches are Bjarni Gíslason, Hjalti Geir Erlendsson and Kenneth Hedegaard Christiansen, who comes from Denmark. The dance coaches are Ásta Þyri Emilsdóttir and Ásdís Guðmundsdótti. Bjarni Gíslason is the most experienced whith the team – he was one of Gerpla coaches at the European Championships 2010, NM 2011 and he was also one of the coaches for the National Team in 2012. Ásta Þyri and Ásdís competed for the team at the last NM and they were also members of the Icelandic National Team, as competitors, at the Europeans in 2012. The team is looking forvard to the Nordic Championships in Odense this November where it will attempt to defend their title as Nordic champions!

After last years competition session the gymnasts had a summer break in July. In August we started up with our basic training and a training camp in Italy. Norges Gymnastikk- og Turnforbund was founded in 1890 and has over 80.000 members. It is Norways oldest sports federation, and in 1906 Norway took its first ever gold medal in the olympics in team gymnastics. TeamGym in Norway is still the fastest growing discipline in the gymnastics federation. 7.500 are active in the discipline. Norway has hosted the nordics for juniors in Bergen in 2008 and for seniors in Kristiansand 1999 and in Larvik 2011. Norway took the first official gold medal for national teams in the European championships in Malmø 2010 with the junior mixed team, and also took the gold for senior mixed teams. Together with bronze medal in junior men, senior men and senior women it marked the start of an exciting period where we try to be professional for the championships and still keep the width in recruitment and gymnastics for our young. With the rules evolving and more coaches are being educated, hopefully TeamGym will spread even further to other european countries and other continents so that our sport will get the attention it deserves.

Most of the members took part in the European Championships in Århus 2012. Either as part of the Junior mix team or as a member of the Swedish Senior National Teams.

New tariff form at wall the national competitions in Denmark
In association with the Swedish company Sport Event Systems HB (SES) Udvalget for TeamGym (UTG) has invested and developed a new tariff form. In the new system you can – among others – upload music and print out diplomas. UTG and SES will keep on developing the system with the aim of adding more features in near future. The new system is not based on Java which solves the problems many Mac users have experienced with the former system. The Score System used at this Nordic Championships in TeamGym is also developed by SES. The Score System is well-proven both nationally and internationally and has been used at several official International Championships. We hope you will enjoy the competition, and the software behind.
