We

Dear Grey Oaks Members,

re on a Mission to do Good at Grey Oaks

The Philanthropy Funds first evolved from an effort by Grey Oaks Members to help the Club’s staff recover from Hurricane Irma which caused severe damage to Naples and the surrounding areas in September 2017. The response from Members to that disaster set a tone for philanthropy that has been carried forward to today. Over the past five years, numerous employees have been helped through your generosity to recover from life’s issues or advance their education. This report will highlight the good work done this past fiscal year.

Exactly five years later, an even more devastating storm, Hurricane Ian, raked a path of destruction in Naples and across the state of Florida, particularly its Gulf Coast. Hurricane Ian was the second-deadliest storm to strike the continental U.S. this century, behind Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Due to the tremendous storm surge and flooding, some staff members suffered complete loss of their homes and vehicles. Within a short few days, the Club and its Board of Directors took action. A member appeal was announced and the response was overwhelming! In addition to monetary donations, tables and tables of non-perishable items were donated by the membership to staff members in need. The generosity of spirit and willingness to give were true testaments to the character of the Grey Oaks membership. A complete accounting of the final donation amounts and distribution of funds will be presented in an addendum to this Annual Report within the coming months.

On behalf of the Philanthropy Committee, I thank you for your generosity, your quick response, and your open heart. Together, we’re on a mission to do good at Grey Oaks!

Warmest Regards,

Philanthropy Funds

The Grey Oaks Philanthropy Funds consist of a Scholarship Fund and a Caring Fund, one dedicated to support the educational and personal development endeavors of Grey Oaks team members and their dependents, and the other to provide shortterm emergency support to team members or eligible dependents who have experienced certain unforeseen and unpreventable circumstances and, as a result, cannot afford basic living needs.

In 2017, the Grey Oaks Board established a Philanthropy Advisory Committee, a Standing Advisory Committee of members, to advise and assist the Club’s Management in managing both Funds.

Since the Funds’ inception, the Club has partnered with the Collier Community Foundation (CCF) to administer the Philanthropy Funds. CCF is a public charity, enabling contributions to the Funds to qualify as charitable, and acknowledging contributions made. CCF manages the application process, facilitates the review and approval of scholarship grants and Caring Fund distributions, and administers the programs per the Club’s criteria and IRS guidelines. CCF is paid an asset management fee based on the value of the Funds being managed.

Each of the Funds is managed by CCF which is a 501(C)3 non-profit organization. The Funds are supported by the generosity of Grey Oaks members. Periodically, members are encouraged to make tax deductible contributions to these Funds.

Origin of the Philanthropy Funds

The Philanthropy Funds evolved from an effort by Grey Oaks members to help the Club’s team members recover from Hurricane Irma in 2017. The Club sponsored a hurricane hardship member appeal. The appeal raised $477,179 from 488 members. For that one appeal, the Club was granted a temporary IRS exemption that allowed those gifts to be considered tax deductible contributions. The Club distributed $231,150 to 84 Team Members suffering from Irma.

With the remaining funds, the IRS granted the Club a grace period to shift the remaining dollars to a qualified 501(C)3, and funds were established at the Collier Community Foundation (CCF). At that time, the Club created the Philanthropy Advisory Committee to oversee this existing balance. Like many other charitable organizations in Collier County, the Committee reached an agreement with the CCF to pool our charitable qualified donations in the CCF investment funds and then have CCF distribute grants from those funds as the Committee so advised and in accordance with governmental regulations. At its origin, the Committee established a Caring Fund with $75,000 and a Scholarship Fund with $166,054.
