Artist Shweta mansingka

Shweta Mansingka’s journey with clay started under the tutelage of Shri Ram Kumar Manna in Calcutta in 1989. She had her first solo sculpture show at the Birla Academy of Fine Arts in 1995.

In 1999, under the guidance of Shri Devi Prashad she started working and learnt more about kilns and glazing. This enabled her to finally set up her own studio and she works from this private space since. 2008 took her to Miami University experimenting with alternative firing techniques.

Learning for her has been an insatiable journey constantly evolving and she is grateful to have had the opportunity to work with many diverse and accomplished artists and teachers.

She makes wall installations as well as countertop artworks. She has taken part in numerous shows

and won awards internationally.

Ceramic is her medium of expression to convey thoughts that have marked her thinking.

Shweta says, “Simple mute objects of art speak, if you have the vision to see, or bandwidth to listen to their silence... I believe an artist’s thought has a voice that rings through their work to resonate with its audience. My work is an expression of that minimalism that tries to reach out to touch a cord with its viewer, hoping to provoke them to think and delve deeper within. Art does not need to elaborate its intent, rather touches on the subtle leaving much to individual interpretation.”

Her work was published in 2012 by the American Ceramic Society in the book Naked Raku and Related Bare Clay Techniques.
