up of jazz artists for conversation and winning program. Piano Jazz fans say the show’s intimate style is “like listening in on a conversation in someone’s living room.” And no one but McPartland, with her engaging personality and improvisational savvy, could host such a variety of performers in her radio “living room.”

1370 Connection Forums & AM 1370 Specials Trauma, Turmoil and Recovery: Surviving Foster Care airs Sunday, August 16 at 10 p.m. Host Ellis Cose shares gripping stories of emotional survival as he profiles survivors of foster care, including two sisters who, in 2009, graduated from Smith and Virginia Polytechnic respectively. Their father was a drug addict who was incapable of caring for them after their mother ran off with her lover — after they had witnessed an aunt commit suicide. America Abroad: Integrating Islam airs Sunday, August 23 at 10 p.m. Subway bombings in Madrid and London, riots in France, and protests over Danish cartoons defaming the Prophet Mohammed have prompted concern about how Muslim immigrants are adjusting to Europe’s liberal and secular society. Across the Atlantic, the situation seems more sanguine. A recent study released by the Pew Research Center found that Muslims in America
are largely middle class and have integrated well. But the tensions in Europe have sparked fears that Islamic extremism could spread to the US. America Abroad examines the friction between Muslim immigrants and European society, and compares that to the situation of Muslims in America. Peace Talks Radio: The Dalai Lama in Our Time airs Sunday, August 30 at 10 p.m. 2009 marks the 50th anniversary of the Dalai Lama’s exile from Tibet. Peace Talks Radio explores how the Dalai Lama’s life and philosophies might inspire our own search for personal and global peace. Host Suzanne Kryder talks with Tibetan scholar Dr. Robert Thurman, author of the book Why The Dalai Lama Matters: His Act of Truth as the Solution for China, Tibet and the World.
