Bullied: Teen Stories from Generation PRX Bullying isn’t a new story, but lately, it is all over the news. And while young people are often the targets and the actors in bullying, we rarely get to hear their perspectives in the media. Bullied: Teen Stories from Generation PRX is changing that. This hourlong special shares stories from teens with first-hand insight on bullying. From being called “Osama” in a Boston classroom, to looking at whether bullying prevention programs really work in Anchorage, youth producers from around the globe help show us what we don’t we understand – but need to – about bullying. Bullied: Teen Stories from Generation PRX airs Sunday, April 8 at 9 p.m. on AM 1370/FM-HD 91.5-2
1370 Connection Forums & AM 1370 Specials America Abroad: “The Rise of the Islamists” airs Sunday, April 1 at 9pm Across the Arab world, the new power brokers are Islamist movements with a sweeping electoral mandate. After decades of repression by secular rulers, they now have the opportunity to transform the region’s politics and culture. But what will the Islamists want to do with their power? In this episode, we’ll take you through Egypt and North Africa for a tour of Islamist groups, their leaders, their rivals, and the shifting politics and culture. Intelligence Squared U.S.: Is Obesity the Government’s Business? airs Sunday, April 15 at 9 p.m. Obesity costs our health care system nearly $150 billion a year and is a major risk factor for expensive, chronic conditions like heart disease and cancer. Should the government intervene, or is this a matter of individual rights?
Burn: An Energy Journal - Hunting for Oil, Risks and Rewards airs Sunday, April 22 at 9 p.m. This Earth Day special coincides with the two-year anniversary of the April 20 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, the worst in U.S. History. What became of all that oil? And what’s the future of offshore drilling? Intelligence Squared U.S.: Does China Do Capitalism Better than America airs Sunday, April 29 at 9 p.m. For all appearances, China has emerged unscathed from the global economic crisis, in stark contrast to its biggest debtor, America. China’s admirers point to its ability to mobilize state resources, quick decision-making and business-friendly environment as reasons for its economic ascendency. But can its brand of state-directed capitalism overcome rampant corruption and the threat of growing inequality, or will the American model of innovation and free markets prevail?
