Super Drama Sunday Marathon
Some may relish in watching the Super Bowl on February 5th, while others may long for something a bit more sophisticated. That’s why WXXI is proud to bring back Super Drama Sunday – with two Masterpiece Classic presentations. We’ll kick off the afternoon at 12:30 with Return to Cranford, where change is racing towards the small, closeknit village of Cranford like a steam train — quite literally. As the railroad continues to encroach on the town, Cranford strives to open to new realities, from surprising romances to unexpected losses and even waltzing! At 3:30 p.m. WXXI-TV/HD makes a touch down with the Emmy Award-winning Downton Abbey. You’ll enjoy the first five episodes of season two back to back, which rejoins the story of the noble Crawley family and their servants at Downton Abbey during the tumultuous World War I era. Return to Cranford airs 12:30 p.m., Downton Abbey at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, February 5 on WXXI-TV/HD

1370 Connection Forums & AM 1370 Specials Rethinking Religion - The Harlem Renaissance: Music, Religion, and the Politics of Race airs Sunday, February 5 at 9 p.m. During the vibrant years of the Harlem Renaissance, music, religion, and spirituality were interconnected -- not just in the religious setting of the church, but in the jazz club, the dance hall, the rent party, even the political street rally. Writer Carl Hancock Rux, Reverend Calvin Butts of the Abyssinian Baptist Church, historian Farah Griffin, Professors Josef Sorett and Obery Hendricks, and others explore these powerful interconnections. Rubin Carter’s Hurricane airs Sunday, February 12 at 9 p.m. Memorialized in a Bob Dylan song and an Academy Award nominated Denzel Washington film, Rubin “Hurricane” Carter was a successful prize fighter, who was falsely accused of
Race and the Space Race The Space Age began when America was going through a wrenching battle over Civil Rights. And because the heart of the old Confederacy was chosen as its base, NASA played an unintended role in Civil Rights history. In this program, we hear how this happened and stories of the people who broke the color line at NASA. Listen to their stories of frustration and their stories of perseverance. Narrated by Mae Jemison (pictured), the first African-American woman in Space, Race and the Space Race tells the unlikely story of Civil Rights and the Space Program. “Race and the Space Race” airs Sunday, February 26 at 9 p.m. on AM 1370/FM-HD91.5-2

Now in his 70s and an outspoken advocate for others wrongly convicted, Carter recently published a spiritual memoir on how he emerged not only from physical incarceration, but from the emotional prison of hatred and bitterness. Heavenly Sight airs Sunday, February 19 at 9 p.m. Blind Willie Johnson, Reverend Gary Davis, Blind Willie McTell, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Flora Molton — the African American gospel tradition has been a haven for the blind. This hour-long radio music documentary tells the story of singers who overcame disability and prejudice to chart the course of American music from sacred songs all the way to rock.
