Get off Your Knees
He was born a congenital amputee. No hands. His arms stop at his elbow. No knees. His lower legs are attached to his hips. What should have been a life in the shadows became the life of a man who cast a giant shadow despite his 3’9” height. As part of its annual Dialogue on Disability: The Herman & Margaret Schwartz Community Series, WXXI and Al Sigl Community of Agencies are pleased to present Get off Your Knees: The John Robinson Story, a documentary profiling the remarkable life of John Robinson.

Lucy airs Tuesday, January 19 at 8 p.m. In a thought-provoking new play, 13-year-old Lucy, who suffers from autism, moves in with her estranged, misanthropic mother. Having lived her entire life with her father, Lucy and her mom struggle with the difficulties of the arrangement. This program is part of Dialogue on Disability.
StoryCorp airs Thursday, January 21 at 6:35 a.m., 8:35 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. Story Corps, a national initiative to document everyday history and the unique stories of Americans, was in Rochester in July 2009. More than 200 stories were collected. In this story, a mother and son share their struggles with their learning disabilities. This program is part of Dialogue on Disability Intelligence Squared U.S.: “Good Riddance To Mainstream Media airs Sunday, January 24 at 10 p.m Some say the democratization of news, in an unfiltered Internet to which all bloggers and news aggregators have equal access, is a good thing while others argue that the public loses when traditional journalistic standards are no longer upheld. Can mainstream media re-invent itself to thrive in a digital age?
