NOVEMBER 2011
Downton Abbey Marathon
Straight out of Jane Austen, updated to the era that introduced electric lights and telephones, Downton Abbey depicts the lives of the noble Crawley family and the staff who serve them. The Titanic has just gone down in the north Atlantic, taking with it the two male heirs to Downton Abbey, whose current Lord Grantham has only daughters—albeit marriageable ones. His nearest male relative is a handsome bachelor lawyer living in Manchester, who soon learns the ropes of managing a sprawling country estate, with its army of devoted, sometimes bickering servants, garden parties, and sexual intrigues. In just one afternoon you can catch all of season one of this six-time Emmy Award winner, and be prepared for season two, which premieres January 2012. Downton Abbey Marathon airs Sunday, November 27 from 3 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on WXXI-TV/HD Executive Staff Norm Silverstein, President & CEO Susan Rogers, Executive Vice President & General Manager Jeanne E. Fisher, Vice President, Radio Kent Hatfield, Vice President, Technology & Operations Elissa Orlando, Vice President, Television WXXI Board of Trustees Officers Steven Swartout, Esq., Chair Christopher C. Booth, Vice Chair James W. Fulmer, Treasurer Beth Ela Wilkens, Esq., Secretary

The Spledid Table’s Turkey Confidential AM 1370 promises to be there for you on one of the biggest cooking days of the year when it broadcasts this live, two-hour, call-in program for cooks, kitchen helpers and dinner guests on Thanksgiving Day. Lynne Rossetto Kasper (pictured), award-winning host of public radio’s national food show The Splendid Table®, answers listener questions throughout the morning. Quickly becoming a Thanksgiving morning tradition, past shows have included everything from a cross-country trucker cooking his Thanksgiving dinner on the manifold to a panicked first-time cook who didn’t realize a turkey needs to be thawed. Lynne handles all questions with wit, expertise and laughter. “The Splendid Table’s Turkey Confidential” airs Thursday, November 24 at 11 a.m. on AM 1370/ FM-HD91.5-2
1370 Connection Forums & AM 1370 Specials The Diane Rehm Show airs weekdays at 10 a.m. For more than 30 years, The Diane Rehm Show has offered listeners thoughtful and lively conversations on an array of topics with many of the most distinguished people of our times. Each week listeners tune in for a mix of current events and public affairs programming that ranges from hard news analysis of politics and international affairs to in-depth examinations of religious issues, health and medical news. The 2011 Third Coast Festival airs Friday, November 25 at 12 p.m. and 10 p.m. This year’s special will showcase the winners of the 2011 Third Coast/Richard H. Driehaus Foundation competition, interviews with the winning producers, and highlights from our 2011 Third Coast Awards Ceremony hosted Peter Sagal from NPR’s Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me. On the Media airs Saturdays at 7 p.m. Hosted by veteran journalists Brooke Gladstone and Bob Garfield, On The Media decodes what we hear, read, and see in the media every day, and arms us with critical tools necessary to survive the information age. With compelling reporting and uncommon insight, the program uncovers the significant issues of the day and carefully exposes the relationship of the media to culture and society.
