In June 2021 the Tulsa Opera commemorated the centennial of the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921, featuring works by 23 living Black composers, performed by eight Black artists including Denyce Graves, Leah Hawkins, Leona Mitchell, Steward Goodyear, Kevin Thompson and more. Tulsa Opera Artistic Director and composer Tobias Picker co-curated the music with Met Opera pianist and Assistant Conductor Howard Watkins. Alan McLellan hosts.
