SEPTEMBER 2009
National Parks
Filmed over the course of more than six years in some of nature’s most spectacular locales — from Acadia to Yosemite, Yellowstone to the Grand Canyon, the Everglades of Florida to the Gates of the Arctic in Alaska — Ken Burns’ new documentary series, The National Parks, is nonetheless a story of people from every conceivable background: rich and poor; famous and unknown; soldiers and scientists; natives and newcomers; idealists, artists and entrepreneurs; people who were willing to devote themselves to saving some precious portion of the land they loved, and in doing so, reminded their fellow citizens of the full meaning of democracy. The National Parks: America’s Best Idea: Sunday, September 27 at 8 p.m. on WXXI-TV, and runs nightly through Friday, October 2 Be sure to tune in for our National Parks Preview Special on Monday, September 14 at 8 p.m. and Friday, September 18 at 10 p.m. for a sneak peek of Ken Burns’ new documentary and where you’ll have the opportunity to get two tickets to attend a LIVE private screening of National Parks Celebration From Central Park on September 23 at 7 p.m. at WXXI Studios.
