FATHER BROWN SERIES 8 PREMIERES SATURDAY, MAY 9 AT 8 PM ON WXXI-TV The charming Father Brown returns to solve more mysteries in the sleepy Cotswold village of Kembleford. In series 8, based on the character created by GK Chesterton, the charismatic priest investigates the murder of an eccentric beekeeper, uncovers the hidden motivations behind a deadly art exhibition, and steps in when a family reunion is threatened by a fortune-teller’s predictions. And when a Kembleford resident is tried for the murder of a young aristocrat, it’s a race against time for Father Brown to prove her innocence and save her from the hangman’s noose. DEAR FRIEND, As we continue to navigate our lives and the world around us during this COVID-19 crisis, WXXI is doing everything possible to keep our community well-informed with the latest Norm Silverstein official information. We’re also working hard to support students, families, and educators by providing emergency athome learning services. In mid-March we cleared our daytime schedule to launch Learn At Home, airing grade level programs on WXXI-TV and afternoon programming on WXXI-World for middle school and high school students. Our education team also curated companion resources online, plus assembled activity packets for Rochester City School District’s Pre-K students that were distributed at the City’s designated food distribution sites. Our crisis response builds on our long-standing success in education. Our early childhood television programs have been proven to help close the achievement gap between children in lower-income families and their more affluent peers. Through on-air and online resources, WXXI continues to help students and at-home caregivers with educational and entertaining options. One of those options that I encourage you to watch is our newly released YouTube series, I Can Be What?! that gives kids a sneak peek into careers they may have never thought of! You can connect to this series and many more online offerings and engagement opportunities at WXXI.org. WXXI and NPR continue to bring you reliable news about the Coronavirus – facts and advice from the nation’s top healthcare professionals. From information on the state of local schools and workplaces, to community reactions, you can rely on WXXI News to keep you connected to the news and to each other. At the same time, Classical 91.5 FM and WRUR-FM 88.5 remain a respite through music, while our television programs continue to inform and entertain. At the same time, the Little Theatre has transformed into the Virtual Little for online screenings and into the Virtual Little Café for in-house music concerts. Fans and supporters can find those offerings and more at TheLittle.org as we look for ways to connect to the community at home. All of this work – education, public safety and civic leadership – is what WXXI brings the community every day. In these daunting and uncertain times, people are looking for trusted information and reliable programming – the very things that membership-supported WXXI has been providing Rochester for more than 50 years. We’re honored that this long-standing commitment can be of such benefit during this current crisis – one that we will get through together.

Stay safe and stay well,

FRESH AIR WEEKDAYS AT 7 PM ON AM 1370

This Peabody Award-winning weekday magazine of contemporary arts and issues, is one of public radio’s most popular programs. Though it has been categorized as a “talk show,” it hardly fits the mold. Its 1994 Peabody Award citation credits Fresh Air with “probing questions, revelatory interviews and unusual insights.” And a variety of top publications count host Terry Gross (pictured) among the country’s leading interviewers. The show gives interviews as much time as needed, and complements them with comments from well-known critics and commentators. PHOTO CREDIT WHYY

BIG PICTURE SCIENCE

THE SPLENDID TABLE

SNAP JUDGEMENT

Leading researchers, techies, and journalists join astronomer Seth Shostak and science journalist Molly Bentley each week to provide a smart and humorous take on emerging scientific research.

Hosted by award-winning food writer Francis Lam, this show has been an original weekend companion, celebrating the intersection of food and life for more than two decades. A culinary, culture and lifestyle program, it has hosted our nation’s conversations about cooking, sustainability and food culture and has introduced us to generations of food dignitaries.

This program, hosted by Glynn Washington, mixes real stories with killer beats to produce cinematic radio.
