Nov 2012 Issue 4 Website of the Issue Title- Twiddla Link:

http://www.twiddla.com/

Twiddla is an online whiteboard space for collaboration and discussion. The great thing about Twiddla is that you can use it without needing to set up accounts. There is also the capacity to upload a range of file formats for discussion. Why not upload an image as a writing prompt and allow for discussion about where the piece could go? Or get students to place their writing up for critique and advice. A world of possibilities…

Author Stream

Control+F

Location: http://www.authorstream.com An awesome free website for sharing PowerPoint presentations on the internet. You can share them live or post after the fact. This one is great because you get 1GB of space and can limit the privacy settings on your publications. Features a chat window too for real time questions/discussions.

Disapainted Location: http://disapainted.com/ This is a cool tool for animating basic paint images. Could be a great way to get use of the tablet functionality on the laptop. Images could be useful to demonstrate a process.

CuePrompter Location: http://cueprompter.com/ A fun tool for turning your laptop into a teleprompter. Might be useful for those presentations and speeches that the students need a little help with. You just copy and paste the speech in and it scrolls through like the real deal.

Certificate Street Location: http://www.certificatestreet.com/templates/education.html A great site for downloading certificate templates that can be edited. Most require a small fee to remove the watermark from the bottom left corner, but this is very small and not necessary in most cases. Could be perfect for those end-of-year CARE/Homeroom awards.

Control+F, is the keyboard shortcut for the Find command. If you're in a web browser and want to search text on a web page, pressing Control+F will bring up a search box. Just type in that search box and it'll locate the text you're typing on the page. Control+F works in most other applications, too, when you need to find something. For example, Microsoft Word and other word processing applications use this keyboard shortcut

Want to do some free online training in a range of University courses? Check out ‘Coursera’ at https://www.coursera.org/. It is a great portal full of courses offered by a wide range of universities mainly from the United States.

This guide outlines how to use the email feature of the iPads to transfer work between the iPads and student/teacher laptops. While there are many other options (such as the use of the Dropbox app which is installed on the iPads), emailing required the least amount of set-up and all users should already be familiar with sending emails from their own laptops using Microsoft Outlook.

Emailing TO iPad Step 1: We are unable to email individual machines but can email an entire set. Determine which set of iPads you would like to email (i.e. BGS/SMS Senior/SMS Junior). Email addresses for these sets are as follows:  BGS – SMSBGSIPAD003@stmargarets.vic.edu.au  SMS Junior - SMSBGSIPAD002@stmargarets.vic.edu.au  SMS Senior - SMSBGSIPAD001@stmargarets.vic.edu.au Step 2: To send an email to BGS, the, type this email address into the “to’ section of the new email window. Complete your email, add attachments, and click ‘send’.

Emailing FROM iPad Step 1: Open the ‘Mail’ app by clicking on the little blue envelope at the bottom of the screen.

Step 2: Click on icon of a little rectangle with a pencil on the side (top right, just below the battery indicator)

Step 3: Fill in the recipients email address, complete the email and click send.

If emailing photographs or videos from the ‘Photos’ app, select your photograph to send, click on the icon of a rectangle with an arrow pointing to the right and select ‘Email Photo.’ Complete as above.

ASK FOR HELP at any time. Andrew and Scott would be delighted to assist you however we are able to.
