Animal testing By Alexia Galsworthy 8D/T7 Over 25 million animals are used for experimentation in the US every year. How many of you have or had cats, rabbits or any pets? Could you imagine them, in good conscience, being slaughtered by harsh chemicals, inflicted with burns or deprived of basic needs such as water? I think not. The main argument pro-animal testing is that medicines and cures can be safely developed; saving thousands of lives. However, there are many different, more effective alternatives to this inhumane process: in vitro methods, stem cell and genetic testing methods, computer models and many others. Moreover, contrary to common belief, animals actually make poor test subjects. For example, recently, a drug (attempting to replace aspirin) was given to healthy volunteers in doses 500 times weaker than given to lab chimpanzees. However, in under an hour, the volunteers were so severely affected that they had to be put in intensive care. Unfortunately, animal testing 72% of the time is not even used on potentially life saving drugs. It is used on cosmetic appliances – makeup! Murdering animal lives for you to look nice! Furthermore, makeup containing chemicals that are so harmful they kill, should not even be produced! Would you feel happy wearing makeup, knowing thousands of cats, chimpanzees, ferrets, pigs, sheep and others died at the expensive of your need for it?

Help ban animal testing or promote the unnecessary death of animals worldwide! I wouldn't like to have that on my conscience!
