Tech Skills are Evolving Quickly - Deloitte found that only 12% of executives think graduates have enough digital skills – this was down 20% from last year, demonstrating one of the key factors of the digital skills gap. The skills that young people are developing can often be outdated by the time they enter the job market, particularly on technical courses, for example; on a computer science course, the syllabus cannot keep up with the pace at which industry is developing. With a minimal focus on practical experience in many of the degree subjects, graduates are finding their degrees aren’t giving them the employability they were promised. What can you do? Ensure you check the content of Computing/Computer Science degrees to ensure it has some focus on practical experience. One way to do this is to consider courses where the universities offer a sandwich or placement year.
