Individual Success Judo

Hockey

Well done to Milly Crosby (Y8 P6) and her U14 Hockey team from Reading HC for winning the regional tournament in Leicester on Sunday 2 April, the team were unbeaten and will now go onto the National Finals at Lee Valley Stadium at the Olympic Park in London Sunday 14 May. The team have also won their league, a great season for Reading HC!

Congratulations to Alisa Sydykova (Y10 T7) who competed at the British Schools Judo Competition on Saturday 8 April in Sheffield. Alisa represented Wycombe High School at this event, fighting the cadet category, under 57kg. This required her to fight judokas from the GB National Team, graded much higher than Alisa, it was a really tough challenge but she managed to finish in bronze Further hockey success is to be celebrated for the U16 Reading and Marlow Hockey Teams medal position! who both competed in the National Finals on Saturday 8 April. Gaby Crosby (Y10 P3) represented Reading who placed 6th in the tournament. Jemima Copeman (Y10 T1) and Sarah Pearce (Y10 P10) represented Marlow and placed 8th.

Golf

Congratulations to Allie Holtom (Y8 B7) who was selected to play for the Oxfordshire Girls Golf Team at two major events. The first event was the BB&O Team Shield at Sunningdale Ladies, Allie won best individual score with 46 points against a field of 20 other girls from Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire. Allie then went on to win her match for Oxfordshire against Berkshire Girls at Huntercombe Golf Club. Allie’s handicap has dropped by a further four shots as a result!

Athletics Lilli Clark-Pratt (Y9 T6) has had a very successful season of Athletics competition so far this year. Lilli broke her arm last season sadly putting her high jumping days to an end, subsequently Lilli has focused on running and throwing events. At the ESAA first round she won the discus with a PB of 27.45m and most recently competed at The Bucks and Oxon County Championships winning a gold medal in the U15 Discus throwing 27.07m. Her resilience and determination to succeed is inspiring!


Team Success Equestrian

Year 9 & 10 Athletics League

Once again WHS hosted the Wycombe District Athletics League this year, which took place The WHS Equestrian Team competed at the Royal Windsor Horse Show on Saturday 13 May. over three consecutive Tuesdays. Eight schools entered, and our students excelled themselves, Wycombe High School placed 15 with the convincingly winning the league with 197 points, following results: 2nd place scored 100 points. From the eleven Isabella Tasker (Y12 B5) riding Brineton Chile—12 events entered WHS won eight of them! – 45.78 The next athletics league is for the Year 8 team Emily Creaser (Y11 B4) riding Mikas Boy—0— and this is being at Sir William Borlase starting 51.8 23 May, and the Year 7 league is being held at Great Marlow School on 27 June. Ella Davies (Y11 T8) riding Princley Polo—16— 44.2

Indoor Athletics League Results

Athletics Championships

The Year 9 and 10 athletics teams competed in the Wycombe District Championships on Wednesday 24 May. The Year 9’s took first place with an amazing total of 176 points! Many of the athletes achieved personal bests in their events and Mei-Ya Lambert’s (Y9 B7) performance won her Victrix Ludorum Award! The Year 10 team took a very close second place with 130 points, dominating the track events throughout the day!

Athletics ESAA Cup Inter Team On Thursday 11 May the Year 9 Athletics Team competed in the Inter English Schools Cup competition at Hillingdon Stadium. They all performed very well and placed third overall (360pts). This was especially impressive as we had no Year 10’s in the team this year. We are currently waiting to find out if the team have qualified for the A Final on the 20 June or the B Final 12 June. Top scores on the day were from Emily Sanderson (Y9 C3) gaining 26 points in the 300m (42.9s) and Lilli Clark-Pratt (Y9 T6) gaining 25 points in the Discus (27.45m). Well done to all of your brilliant performances and to Mrs Clark-Pratt for coming along to help.

The Year 7 and 8 Wycombe District Championships will take place on Wednesday 14 June.


Volleyball

On Tuesday 23 May we took 16 WHS students to Princes Risborough School to take part in a volleyball festival. There were 10 teams entered and the competition was tough, three out of the 10 teams entered were WHS. They battled against each other in a test of agility, speed and decision-making. Overall WHS placed first, second and third! Well done everyone, a fantastic achievement!

In addition to the success of the South Bucks Volleyball Tournament. The South East England Volleyball selection has been announced and out of the twelve girls chosen to represent U14’s six are from the WHS team (Livvie Walter Y9 P9, Zoe Glover Y9 A8, Milly Crosby Y8 P6, Lily Bowen Y8 A10, Lily BurnistonY8 B2 and Izzy Tucker Y8 C4) . The girls have been selected to represent South East England U14’s at the annual Inter-Regional tournament in Kettering on 27-28 May. South Bucks and Wycombe High Volleyball coaches Sue Jollands and Lauren Tucker will be the Head Coaches for the A and B squads respectively. Last year the A squad finished 4th (out of eight) and the relatively inexperienced B squad finished 7th, but this year given the depth of talent, we are hoping for top three finishes from both squads!

Upcoming Sporting Events Sports Presentation Evening 2017

Come along and celebrate a year of sporting success!

We would like to thank Lauren, Charlton and Sue. They have set up a successful Adults, Junior and Development clubs, introduced volleyball to more than 1000 new players, joined forces with five area link schools and have been instrumental in creating the first ever BVA junior league. Thank you for all of your hard work and commitment!

Trampolining

Sports Day

The annual Trampolining Competition took place on Friday 12 May at Wycombe Abbey school. All performers encouraged and supported one another throughout practice and final performances. The WHS team performed exceptionally well in the individual routines and demonstrated excellent teamwork, precision and timing in the syncro routines. All performers should be very proud of themselves, they conducted themselves beautifully and were a real pleasure to accompany to the competition.

Staff Running Club Despite many of the running club being on the injury bench for now, Mr Houston has presented the group with some potential events that might raise interest for WHS Staff to aim for! Or, if you want more time to go for a target, Mr Nevard and Mrs Williams have set the gauntlet down for Oxford Half (8 October - https:// uk.virginsport.com/event/oxford-2017) to be a WHS event, so get involved.

Sponsor A Square ‘Sponsor a Square’ is continuing to help raise money for our pitches with over £10,000 raised to date. We encourage families to purchase a square in honour of your daughters, the family, or a friend of the family. If you run a local business, work in a large corporation or know of someone who does, you can purchase a square or two in the company’s name which is a great opportunity to advertise at the new facility. The club (literally) runs every Wednesday afterschool at 4.30 pm. All are welcome. Meet in front of the Music Centre.

Play Your Part for Sport Update

This year we have challenged each tutor group to raise £50 to sponsor a square. 11 out of 60 tutor groups have purchased a square so far. Please encourage your daughter to either contribute £2.00 to her Tutor or help organise a fundraising event for her Tutor Group. Thank you for your support.

We are currently raising money for an allweather sports pitch. Our students, staff and parents are actively engaged in the ‘Play Your Part for Sport’ campaign participating in runs,
