Cross Country ESAA Cross Country Cup—Friday 5 October 2018 In

keeping with a lovely hot summer, bringing everyone outdoors, we had a lovely, unusually welly-free day for the first round of the English Schools' cross county cup... perhaps a little too warm for the team! The greatest news of the 2018-19 season is that the junior team successfully progressed through this competition at Cottesloe School and will be taking part in the second, regional, round on Saturday 10 November at Lincroft School, Oakley, Bedfordshire. This is no mean feat as Buckinghamshire is one of the very strongest counties in the country for cross country and athletics. Indeed, DCHS and AHS are regular National Finalists and indeed, National Champions, so we're in the very best company. WHS have a history of high numbers of girls involved in athletics and cross country and this year, we have large number of talented girls in Year 7. We look forward to great success in athletics as a result. Everyone is welcome to cross country club on Wednesday lunchtimes on the field with Miss Snook and our affiliated coaches Alan Hewson and Helen Hinde from the Bucks Speed Demons athletics club. Additionally, some athletes are invited to the 'gifted and talented' athletics club on Tuesday lunchtimes in the gym, also with Alan Hewson. Any PE teacher or Alan or Helen can give you further details for Bucks Speed Demons. It's a great athletics club for out of school competitions and training.

Junior team runners: Sofia, Aashni, Anjali, Isabelle, Jo, Lyra.

Football

This year all age groups are taking part in the County Cup along with the Wycombe District League. The U13 team are off to the strongest start with 3 out of 3 wins in the county cup. Well done! The U15 and U16 teams have had a mix of results and we are awaiting the county cup results. We are looking forward to the league starting soon and know that the students will be on top form with all the hard work they have put into their training.

Hockey U13

The U13 Hockey Teams have got off to an excellent start this season with their first matches. The A Team won against 6-0 against Sir William Borlase and Emma was voted as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) by the opposition. The B Team also won with a 4-1 score line. Chloe was voted MVP from this match by the opposition. Unfortunately our last matches against Aylesbury High were postponed by the opposition this week so we are looking forward to playing again soon.

Hockey Coach—Ian Sloan

We have been truly delighted and thrilled to welcome Ian Sloan to our Hockey coaching team from September to November 2018. Ian has been working with selected hockey players to inspire and improve their skills in preparation for the many games ahead. Ian has managed to work with our students in between jetting off for international duty for matches against Belgium and latterly for the World Cup in November, which we wish him the very best of luck for! Thanks Ian!

The Year 10 DofE expeditions in September were a resounding success. 117 Year 10 students successfully completed their practice and qualifying expeditions in the Chilterns, having trekked for over 6 hours each day! Each group learnt how to navigate to their camp site, cook for themselves on a trangier, put up their tents and route plan for the following day. They have until March to complete their skills, physical and volunteering sections!
